Effingham, Illinois) Honorary Degrees Doctor of Humane Letters Morris Landsbaum Commercial Real Estate Developer Terre Haute, Indiana During a successful career in commercial real estate development , Morris Landsbaum has managed the creation of shopping centers, restaurants and a variety of other large and small real estate projects Landsbaum, a lifelong resident of Terre Haute , has had a special interest in civic affairs As president of the Redevelopment Commission, he provided the leadership to initiate a local urban renewal redevelopment program As a result of the program, more than 500 substandard structures were removed, thereby making new low-income housing possible This urban renewal program was also responsible for significant improvements to the U.S 41/ South Third Street corridor which is the main north/ south highway through Terre Haute Because of Landsbaum's efforts , educational programs and medical services in Terre Haute have been improved He has served on the boards of directors of several civic and medical organizations, including Columbia Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Terre Haute Center for Medical Education and Union Hospital Doctor of Engineering Hany ] Pearce Vice Chairman General Motors Corporation Detroit, Michigan Harry ] Pearce was elected a director of the General Motors Corporation Board of Directors and became vice chairman of the corporation in 1996 He had been an executive vice president since 1992 Pearce is a member of the General Motors President's Council with responsibility for Board and Stockholder Relations and Worldwide Travel Services, the Corporate Business Support Group , Corporate Information Management, Global Leadership Development and Human Resources Processes and the GM University, Knowledge etwork , the Public Policy Center, Worldwide Communications, Worldwide Executive Compensation and Corporate Governance, Allison Transmission Division, Electro-Motive Division and Hughes Electronics Corp He is also responsible for the overall relationship between GM and its key information-technology supplier, Electronic Data Systems, which was split off from GM in 1996 Pearce had been general counsel with responsibility for the GM Legal Staff from 1987 to 1994 Pearce joined GM as associate general counsel in 1985 , assuming responsibility for all product litigation and product safety matters worldwide Ronald G Reeves Vice President for Development and External Affairs Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Terre Haute, Indiana Ronald G Reeves has been responsible for successful fund-raising and public relations programs that have brought unprecedented financial support and recognition to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Reeves has directed the largest fund-raising efforts in Rose-Hulman history During his 30-year tenure at the college, donors have contributed more than $165 million in gifts and pledges Reeves has developed public relations programs that have resulted in Rose-Hulman earning a national reputation as a leader in education Reeves, a 1958 Rose-Hulman graduate, has won many professional and civic awards Rose-Hulman presented him with the President's Outstanding Service Award, and he is a recipient of the college's Honor Alumnus Award Reeves is also the winner of the Terre Award, presented annually to outstanding, local community volunteers Despite the demands of his profession, Reeves has been one of Rose-Hulman's most dedicated counselors and mentors to alumni and students He will retire from RoseHulman in August Mike Thomas Director Powertrain Total Cost Reduction Ford Motor Company Dearborn, Michigan Mike Thomas has served in several product and strategic planning functions in North American and International Operations, and in Corporate Staffs during a 29-year career with Ford Motor Company His assignments have included Manager of Powertrain Planning for North America, Director of Overseas Engineering and Product Strategy for International Automotive Planning, and he has served as Director of Planning and of Product Development for Ford operations in Brazil, South America Thomas has also been a director in the Worldwide Automotive Planning Office, · and in the Technical Strategy Office In 1995, he became executive director of USCAR, the research consortium involving Ford, General Motors and Chrysler In January, he was appointed to his present position as Director of Powertrain Total Cost Reduction, an assignment with worldwide responsibilities Thomas received a mechanical engineering degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1964 He serves as development committee chair, and secretary of the Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees Robert L Voges Retired Vice President and Director Associated Coca-Cola Bottling Co Ormond Beach, Florida Robert L Voges served as vice president and director of Associated Coca-Cola Bottling Co He has also been active in civic affairs, serving on numerous educational and medical boards In 1961, he became vice president and general manager of Florida Coca-Cola Bottling Co At the time of his retirement in 1982, Florida Coca-Cola Bottling, which included plants in the Caribbean area, was the largest of all bottlers of Coca-Cola products Voges earned an electrical engineering degree from Rose-Hulman in 1947 He was a member of Rose-Hulman's first undefeated and untied football team He supervised the forming and construction of Sycamore Manufacturing Company, a producer and supplier of bottle crowns for Associated Coca-Cola Bottling plants Before joining Associated Bottling Co , Voges also served as president and general manager of John S Cox and Son, a Terre Haute automotive supply company Voges is an emeritus member of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Board of Trustees , and a native of Terre Haute John R White President and Founder Hydro-Power Inc Terre Haute, Indiana John R White is the president and founder of Hydro-Power Inc , a Terre Haute-based company that sells its products to a variety of industries throughout the United States and in Europe, Latin America and Middle East countries Hydro-Power designs , builds and sells metal forming machinery, constant speed and variable speed pumping equipment, personnel lifting devices, coal breakers and reciprocating feeders, pneumatic conveying systems and bridge cranes The company has built bridge cranes for use by all branches of the Armed Forces , including Nuclear Naval bases White has led Hydro-Power to a position as a national leader for the quality of its products The company was honored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the John F Kennedy Space Center as Small Contractor ofthe-Year Hydro-Power was recognized for its contribution to the Galileo Space Project White earned a mechanical engineering degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1947 Fifty-Year Commemorative Degrees For more than a century, hood indicate the degree held by the wearer The hood is lined with the official color or colors of the college or university conferring the degree Graduates of certain institutions wear gowns in the color of the university, although black is the basic color of the majority of academic gowns The doctor's gown is faced down the front with velvet panels and has three velvet crossbars on each sleeve The velvet may be black or may be the color which represents the field in which the degree was conferred RHIT Bachelor,s Degree Attire Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Bachelor's degree holders or
