York High School ACP Dual Credit York Community High School Elmhurst, Illinois Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana What Is Advance College Project? ● The Advance College Project is a Dual Credit program in which students can earn both high school and college credit simultaneously ● York High School has partnered with Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana to offer several of its courses at York ● Students who choose to take these courses for Indiana University credit are starting their permanent college transcript and college GPA ● The courses are rigorous since they are the same courses that are being taught on the Indiana University campus ● ACP courses are taught by York teachers who have been selected and trained by Indiana University as adjunct faculty members Advance College Project Courses York Course Name ….….… Indiana University Course Name Composition 101 H Literature 101 H Rhetoric 101 H Functions & Finite Math H ACP Calculus II ACP Calculus III ACP French Honors ACP French Honors ACP Italian 3H ACP Italian AP/ACP Sociology Honors / ACP Spanish Honors ACP Spanish Honors ACP US History ACP ….…… IU W131: Reading, Writing, & Inquiry ….…… IU L202: Literary Interpretation … … IU COLL P155: Public Oral Communication ….….… IU M118: Finite Mathematics ….…… IU M212: Calculus II ….…… IU M311: Calculus … … IU F200: Second-Year French I ….….… IU F250: Second-Year French II ….…… IU FRITM200: Intermediate Italian I ….…… IU FRITM250: Intermediate Italian II … … IU S100: Introduction to Sociology ….….… IU S200: Second-Year Spanish I ….….… IU S250: Second-Year Spanish II ….….… IU H105 & H106: American History I & II Advance College Project Fast Facts ● Cost… ○ $25 per credit hour plus $150 out of state ACP Fee per course ■ For example, a 3-hour course would cost $225.00 ○ Families pay tuition directly through IU ○ Tuition is waived for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch ● Registration… ○ Students register through IU and Student can take the class without receiving IU credit ● Prerequisites… ○ Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 ○ Some courses have additional course prerequisites Advance College Project vs AP ACP AP Students complete a college course Students complete college level coursework Students receive a college transcript with a grade from the course Students take an exam in May for the possibility of college credit Students receive weighted GPA credit Students receive weighted GPA credit Individual university determines what Individual university determines what credit will be awarded based on transcript credit will be awarded based on score on AP exam $25 per semester hour + $150 out-ofstate ACP course fee Approximately $95.00 per AP exam Advance College Project Registration ● Students will register for IU credit with their York teachers ● Indiana will be providing students with individual student and account information, and students should bring this information with them to class every day until confirmation of their registration is received ● Because these are college classes, students only register for the current semester Registering for the wrong class during the wrong semester will pose problems ● Once a student completes online registration and roster verification for for an IU course, there are very specific deadlines to drop the course If a student enrolls and fails to drop the course on these timelines, the tuition will still be required and the grade will appear on the student’s IU transcript Advance College Project Registration Advance College Project Registration ● Please speak with your student about registration to make sure that they are ready to begin a college transcript and understand the financial commitment ● There is no difference in the York course whether or not a student registers for IU credit HOWEVER-● If a student does not sign up for IU credit for the first of sequential courses, the student will not be able to sign up for IU credit in the second of those courses ○ For example, if a student chooses not to sign up for IU credit in Spanish 3H, the student will not be able to sign up for IU credit in Spanish 4H Advance College Project Credit Transferability ● Admission into the ACP program does not guarantee admission to Indiana University; however, transferability is 100% for students who attend IU ● Transfer policies vary by institution: students have reported that some private and Ivy League schools not accept their ACP courses from IU ● In a recent survey of graduated seniors, they reported that the following institutions took all or most of their ACP courses: ○ University of Illinois, Marquette, University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin, St Louis University, Western Michigan University, Purdue University, The Ohio State University, University of Alabama, North Central College, Elmhurst College, Bradley University, University of Nebraska, and more Questions about the Advance College Project?
