Finding the Common Ground Between Science and Spirituality God Faith developed out of necessity An imperceptible spirit for many human beings is too abstract to grasp Faith traditions attempt to skirt around the problem of understanding by simplifying it In so doing, they use a metaphor of a “spiritual being” with human traits to represent spirit This spiritual being is referred to as God, who creates the universe and runs it under His supervision Is God the source of all that is: the energy and the spirit in all things? Many believe that is the case God is thus a personified notion of the infinite and the imperceptible, an image irrespective of the actual material used to make it, which may be stone, wood, plastic, or papier-maché, a picture on paper, or merely words Contemplative and Scientific Methods Ancient contemplatives around the world searched for the truth of existence Modern scientists also searched for the same truth What is the difference between their approaches? What is the difference between their findings? Contemplative minds of antiquity searching for the truth of existence came to the conclusion that the universe of sense perception is the manifestation of a self-existing imperceptible principle Scientific minds too, with their advanced instrumentation and mathematical reasoning, arrived at the conclusion that the perceptible universe is from a self-existing imperceptible principle The contemplatives called their underlying principle spirit whereas the scientists called theirs energy 33
