2014 LOGISTICS LOGISTICS Throughout the Admissions process you have heard what you will need to to be ready for the first day of classes at MIAD In this brochure, you will find information covering your logistical needs and options as a new student in preparation for the start of the semester If you have questions about the enclosed information, including Orientation and logistics, please contact your admissions counselor at 414.291.8070 We look forward to seeing you at New Student Orientation! Save the Dates Wednesday, August 20th – Move in / Parent Orientation Thursday, August 21st – Student Orientation Friday, August 22nd – Student Orientation Saturday, August 23rd – Annual sand sculpture competition Monday, August 25th – Classes begin MIAD Cafe - Meal Plan The MIAD Café is open Monday through Friday for breakfast, lunch, and into the evening for snacks Hot breakfast, specialty coffee, bakery, soup, sandwiches, salads, and a daily hot meal are available The Café is your place to hang out, homework and grab a bite to eat Meals are on average $5 - $6 More details will be sent to you later this summer *details about New Student Registration can be found at You may purchase a meal plan in advance for the MIAD Café This eliminates the need to worry about bringing a lunch or carrying cash every day The Meal plan will be added to your Student ID Card The meal plan is good for purchases in the MIAD Café only A continuing balance is maintained in the food service database You can ask the cashier at any time to tell you how much is remaining on your ID card miad.edu/fall2014 ID Cards All MIAD students are required to carry a college photo ID To facilitate the printing process of ID cards, you are required to upload your head shot photograph by July 15th at: miad.edu/idcard Your photograph must: • be rectangular • be horizontal in orientation • be a JPEG file • be a head shot (from the shoulders up) • be true to your appearance • visibly and clearly show all facial features If your photograph does not meet these requirements, you will be asked to submit a new photograph This photograph will appear on your ID card throughout your college career, so please keep that in mind Order your meal plan at: miad.edu/mealplan You will receive an email receipt Please print out this receipt until your student ID card is activated Note: Funds remaining at the end of the spring semester are forfeited Note: If you are living at MIAD's Residence Hall, you have been already enrolled in a MIAD Cafe Meal plan at the rate of $250 per semester You may wish to increase your meal plan and you can so online at the link listed above Marquette University Medical Clinic All MIAD students are eligible to receive health care services at the Marquette University (MU) Medical Clinic Marquette University’s Medical Clinic is equipped to diagnose and treat most outpatient conditions Students with major medical health issues or health issues requiring specialized care will be referred to consultants at their own expense Full-time MIAD students are eligible to receive all covered services at the Marquette University Medical Clinic Parttime students will be billed for services provided by the Marquette University Medical Clinic Cost of Care There is no charge for any of the services provided or any prescription filled at the Marquette University Medical Clinic Location The Marquette University Medical Clinic is located on the east side of North 16th Street, between Clybourn and Wisconsin Avenue, in the center of the block The main entrance to the Marquette University Medical Clinic faces the east, away from 16th Street There is metered parking on 16th and Clybourn streets There is also visitor parking available in Parking Structure located one block north of Wisconsin Avenue on 16th Street for a nominal fee You can use your UPASS to use the Milwaukee County Transit System to take a bus to the clinic Patient Care Hours Mon – Wed: 8:30am – 5:00pm Thurs: 9:30am – 5:00pm Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm (During noon hours there are reduced services & there are no weekend hours Hours are also reduced over break periods and during the summer Check the Marquette University Medical Clinic website at www.marquette.edu/medical-clinic for the most up-to-date hours) To serve you more efficiently, the Marquette University Medical Clinic operates on an all appointment system Same day appointments can be scheduled when available Walk-ins are not accepted Call Clinic offers many clinical services Some of the services include: Diagnosis of acute illness Asthma management Treatment of injuries Sports medicine Women’s health, including pap smears Men’s health Specialty referral Health education Acne care Minor surgical procedures including suturing HIV testing (confidential) and STD testing Nutrition counseling Allergy injections Travel clinic Immunizations Eating disorder evaluation Laboratory Services Textbooks Some courses will require the purchase of textbooks Please check to see if the courses you've enrolled in have required textbooks Any questions regarding textbooks should be directed to Mary Eggert, Academic Operations Manager, at 414.847.3314 or via email maryeggert@miad.edu The textbook list for the fall 2014 semester will be available for download beginning early July Please visit miad.edu/fall2014 to access the list Bus Transportation All students carrying a course load of 12 credits or more will receive a UPASS The UPASS will be attached to your ID card This will provide you with unlimited access to ride the bus in Milwaukee County We strongly encourage you to make use of your UPASS For the route finder and bus time schedules visit www.ridemcts.com Laptops & Software All MIAD students are required to own a laptop and software Information on MIAD’s laptop and software requirement is available on the new student webpage, miad.edu/fall2014 MIAD Parking Registration Our new lot is located on the corner of Erie and Jackson streets The parking fee is $230 per semester, which is less per day than an hour of meter parking You can reserve your spot in the lot now and have your parking added to your student account A permit will be available for pick up from the MIAD Security desk at 273 E Erie Street Bring your emailed receipt to the Security desk to pick up your permit The cost of parking is added to your student account This allows you several payment options that you can arrange with the business office The confirmation email you receive once you complete the order form will give you a link to make an online credit card payment if you would like to pay off the amount of the parking fee that has been placed on the student account You can order your access to student parking by clicking the link miad.edu/parkingform • Parking lots will be monitored to ensure only students paying for parking are in the lots • Parking is limited so reserve your spot now • Overnight parking is not permitted Questions on parking? Information on supplies is broken down into the following categories: Core Supply Kit Studio Mini-kits Additional Supplies Pre-paid Accounts CORE SUPPLY KITS The Core Supply Kit contains an essential base of supplies and materials required during your first year of studies as a Foundations student Many of these supplies will also serve you well throughout your four years at MIAD A list of the supplies included in the Core Kit follows Please note there are a few items listed that you will need to bring from home to complete the base of core supplies you will need Full-time Foundations Students All full-time Foundations students will receive a Core Kit during Orientation The cost for the Core Kit is included in the “Foundations Fee” charged on your tuition bill Part-time Students If you are a part-time student (less than 12 credits), you will not be charged for or receive a Core Kit Your art supply needs are based directly on the course(s) you register to take You can “opt-in” to receive a Core Kit if you believe you will need one Contact your admissions counselor for details Transfer Students If you are a transfer student, you will not be charged for or receive a Core Kit Your art supply needs are based directly on the course(s) you register for based on your transfer credit evaluation You can “opt-in” to receive a Core Kit if you believe you will need one This form is available on the fall new student webpage, miad.edu/fall2014, and should be returned to Matthew Sothan, Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor, at matthewsothan@miad.edu STUDIO MINI-KITS You will need specific supplies for both your Observational Drawing and Visual & Color Dynamics classes in addition to some of the items provided in the Core kit All full-time Foundations students registered for F100: Observational Drawing and F110: Visual & Color Dynamics will receive these Studio Mini-Kits during Orientation The cost for the Studio Mini-Kits is included in the “Foundations Fee” charged on your tuition bill PLEASE NOTE: If you receive Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or transfer credit for F110, you will not be charged for the applicable mini-kit If you receive Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) for F100, and are registered for F113, you will be charged for the F100 mini-kit which will serve your needs in F113 If you are a transfer student registered for F113, you may opt-in to purchase an F100 mini-kit Supply lists for upper-level courses will be provided by your instructor on the first day of class Additional Supplies The Core Kit and Studio Mini-Kits will contain the base of supplies you need for your first year at MIAD However, it does not include every supply you will need You should be prepared to purchase other surfaces (boards, papers) and materials as required by individual instructors MIAD faculty their best to minimize additional expenses Depending on the other courses you select for the fall semester, you may need to purchase some additional materials Some bulk supplies are provided in class You are responsible for obtaining all required supplies listed for each of your foundations studio courses, as well as courses you may be enrolled in as a transfer student Faculty will expect you to come prepared for each class session Do not hesitate to ask for help if you have any questions about the
