Application Deadlines November 30th for CSU and UC December /January for Private Universities For Out of State Colleges see school website for deadlines www.wiche.edu/wue: Reduced scholarship rates for Calif Students First come first serve basis Early Decision & Early Action: Nov 1st – Early Decision is Binding – Early Action is NOT Binding College Application Websites UC’s: www.universityofcalifornia.edu – Minimum Academic G.P.A 3.0 CSU’s: www2.calstate.edu – Minimum Academic G.P.A 2.0 Private/Out of State Colleges: www.commonapp.org or see specific college website College Admissions Testing Required by UC and CSU Systems SAT Reasoning Test (2 parts: Math, Reading/Writing) Each part has a max score of 800 Total Maximum score of 1600 www.sat.org/register OR ACT Assessment plus Optional Writing (5 parts: Math, Reading, Science, English and Writing) Total Maximum score of 36 www.actstudent.org Beginning with the class of 2012 the UC’s will no longer require SAT Subject Tests (Still Recommended by certain majors!) All exams must be completed by Dec of the Senior year! Sending SAT, ACT or AP Scores CSUs only look at Critical Reading and Math and take highest composite score Take SAT/ACT more than once Last SAT/ACT to take for seniors is in December Official Scores must be sent from the student’s Collegeboard or ACT account! Send UC scores to one campus– all campuses will have access to those scores AP scores are self reported during the application process Official scores not need to be sent until after acceptance How Many Schools Should I Apply to? It’s a good idea to apply to at least 6-8 Shoot for your dream school, but have a list of several safe schools that you feel reasonably sure will accept you Make sure you have a “backup” school Consider application costs (Approx $70 for UC and $55 for CSU per application) Apply for application fee waivers if you think you qualify Things to remember Create an email account for the purposes of College ONLY!! Check your spam email!
