Operations Team leads the system’s efforts in ensuring high academic achievement for all schools and students The Assistant Superintendents supervise all local school principals in implementing a Center) The Office of School Operations and Support assists the Associate Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendents, and the local school principals by ensuring the divisional operations and processes maximize student achievement The Executive Director and Directors serve as a liaison to other divisions on operational matters that impact the local school Eric Blachly, Director of federally funded, supplemental program designed to ensure that all children have an opportunity to obtain a high quality education and to achieve proficiency on high academic standards Office of innovative educational programs The Executive Director also provides leadership by working with central office and local school leaders to improve targeted processes leading to improved student an environment where teaching and learning are the centerpieces, as well as providing educational and recreational opportunities for students, staff and stakeholders through our community schools program The offices within this department develop procedures and processes that impact student discipline, gender equity, safety and security, interscholastic athletics, permissive transfers and student activities Office of Athletics Ed Shaddix, Director 678-301-7394 / fax: 678-301-7450 (Instructional Support Center) The Office of Athletics provides leadership and support for all athletic programs associated with our schools This office develops policies and procedures to organize all intramural and interscholastic athletic programs and makes schools aware of state Board policies, local Board policies, state standards, and Georgia High School Association policies that pertain to these activities This office also assists the district in planning for present and future growth thereby benefiting students and the community alike The Adapted Sports program for students with physical disabilities is managed through this office functions assist the district in planning for (Lawrenceville East) The Office of Student Discipline and Behavior Interventions provides leadership and support in helping schools and school personnel maintain a safe and orderly environment for teaching and learning The office provides advice to school officials in dealing with discipline matters, provides training for school officials to deal with inappropriate student behavior equitably, provides oversight of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and protects the due process rights of students who violate school rules and policies The Office of Student Discipline and Behavior Interventions offers effective interventions for students and coordinates/facilitates the implementation of a harassment-free environment conducive to teaching and learning for our students and staff Office of Community-Based Mentoring The Office of Community-Based Mentoring provides leadership and support to equip identified students with the academic, social, and behavioral skills necessary to become successful young adults Community-Based Mentoring Directors focus on mentor recruitment and retention, student support, resources that empower parents, and collaborations with business and community organizations This office also supports district priorities and initiatives designed to promote academic rigor for minority students African American Boys Mentoring James Rayford, Director Student Activities Jon Weyher, Director 678-301-7274 / fax: 678-301-7450 (Instructional Support Center) The Office of Community Schools and Student Activities provides leadership and support for extracurricular programs associated with our schools This department manages the Foreign Exchange Program, the U.S Senate Youth Program and the Georgia Scholars program All community school activities, as well as non-school use of facilities, are organized through this office, extending educational and recreational opportunities to the entire community Division of School Improvement & Center) August 2021 Department of Student Services Dr Tinisha Parker, Executive Director 678-301-7286 / fax: 678-301-7326 (Instructional Support Center) The Department of Student Services provides leadership and support in helping schools maintain a school climate where teaching and learning are the centerpieces, and students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally The offices within this department develop policies and procedures that impact counseling and student health In addition, they provide connections between schools and organizations and groups that provide community support to children and families Office of Advisement and Counseling Dr Demetria Williams, Director 678-301-7372 / fax: 678-301-7374 (Instructional Support Center) The Office of Advisement and Counseling supports the advisement teams in each middle and high school to provide students with caring and knowledgeable adults to challenge, encourage, and support them in making wise choices throughout their school career and in planning for the future The Office of Advisement and Counseling also coordinates the critical work of counselors in each school as they remove barriers to academic achievement and develop within students the ability to self-advocate and problem solve This work entails school-wide and grade-level programming, as well as individual, small group and classroom counseling sessions Our office also oversees the Emergency Response Teams, comprised of school counselors, social workers, and psychologists, trained to offer support to the local school during times of crises Students need academic guidance, individual, and group support to navigate a successful transition to their post-secondary career and school options Office of Health and Social Services Crystal Baskerville, Director 678-301-7270 / fax: 678-301-7269 (Instructional Support Center) The Office of Health and Social Services is comprised of County School Nurses, School Social Workers, the Homeless Education Program, Project Rescue and Project Reconnect Our office supports local schools by providing intervention services to address those barriers, which influence students’ academic achievement We provide leadership and support with enrollment procedures, the student transfer process, private school reports and the attendance protocol County School Nurses provide health related support which includes development of individualized health management plans, AED training, assistance and training of clinic workers, student immunization compliance and infectious disease prevention training School Social Workers provide support in the area of attendance, academic achievement, behavioral/mental health, crisis intervention; student abuse/neglect and student/family conflict The Homeless Liaison is responsible for managing the Homeless Education Program and providing assistance to schools to ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act Project Rescue provides a schooling option for students who are serving long term suspensions without the GIVE option or permanent expulsion We also partner with Juvenile Justice to provide a GED option for students Office of Safety and Security Tony Lockard, Chief Office of Planning Patrick Burke, Director The Office of Safety and Security consists of 96 P.O.S.T (Police Officer Standards and Training) certified Police Officers and 11 full-time and 15 part-time office staff Safety and Security also has oversight of the School Crossing Guards Program, which consists of 27 employees The department is responsible for providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff The officers respond to needs of our students, staff and community In addition to enforcing the laws of the State of Georgia, officers teach classes both during the school day to students and to community groups in the evenings The proactive direction taken by the School Resource Officers is recognized by all local law enforcement agencies and the community The Gwinnett County School Police department maintains State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification, a distinction currently held by only four public school system police agencies in the state The Office of Planning provides an annual forecast including a five-year forecast based on historical information and county growth trends and projections Additionally, this department is involved in the formation of the E-SPLOST/Bond building program, coordinates the efforts of the public redistricting process including school zone formation and modifications and organizes the tasks of the school naming process These functions assist the district in planning for present and future growth thereby benefiting students and the
