The Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Financial Skills Academy (FSA) currently consists of four certification courses -‐ FSA 0101: Basic Financial Skills, FSA 0201: Investing, FSA 0202: Trading Foreign Currency, and FSA 0301: Benefits and Compensation None of the courses are a prerequisite in order to be able to enroll in another course The courses may be taught face-‐to-‐face or online via Blackboard Live sessions will be recorded so students who are unable to attend the face-‐to-‐face sessions can still watch them online Participation in the FSA is open to all FSCJ students and employees If a final exam is offered for a particular course, participants who answer 75 percent of the 20 questions correctly on the final exam will pass the course Students that pass the course may also receive a printed certificate of completion, if desired • FSA 0301: Benefits and Compensation – begins March 6 – Taught by Christina Goodell, CEBS, SPHR, SHRM-‐ SCP This course will consist of four sessions: Session 1 (Orientation, Compensation), Session 2 (Employee Benefits – Applications, Federally Mandated Employee Benefits and Discretionary Employee Benefits), Session 3 (Health Benefit Literacy – Applications, Terminology, and Health Benefit Literacy and Individual Health and Wellbeing), and Session 4 (Retirement Plans – Applications, Terminology and Differences among Retirement Plan Offerings) and will be taught online via Blackboard FSA0301 is a general overview of benefits and compensation and not FSCJ specific • FSA 0101: Basic Financial Skills – begins March 6 – Taught by Harvey Slentz This course will be taught in-‐ person on Thurs., March 9; Thurs., March 16; Thurs., March 30; and Thurs., April 6 from 6-‐7:30 p.m at South Campus, N-‐241 and online via Blackboard The four sessions in this course will cover earning money, spending money, investing money and putting it all together For FSCJ employees, FSA 0101: Basic Financial Skills is a One-‐Step Salary Incentive approved course • FSA 0202: Trading Foreign Currency – begins March 6 – Taught by Mark Barber This course will be taught online via Blackboard This four-‐session course defines what the foreign currency market is, what resources are available to learn foreign currency trading, and a demonstration of a trading system's setup • FSA 0201: Investing – begins April 10 – Taught by Jon Lyon This course will be taught online via Blackboard There will also be in-‐person help sessions on Thurs., April 20; Thurs., April 27; and Thurs., May from 6-‐7 p.m at Deerwood Center, A-‐2108 This course will cover in greater detail the various ways to invest your money in the capital markets How students sign up for the courses: Log in to Connections Click on the My Classes tab Click on the Class Search link Type either FSA0101, FSA0201, FSA0202, FSA0301 under “Enter a CourseID or Keyword” Select your course: FSA 0101: Basic Financial Skills – Reference # 452293 – C4 Semester FSA 0202: Trading Foreign Currency – Reference # 452294 – C4 Semester FSA0301: Benefits and Compensation–Reference # 452295 – C4 Semester FSA 0201: Investing – Reference # 452296 – D4 Semester Click on Add to Cart, click on Cart and click on Register Class(es) For more information, please contact Associate Director of Student Engagement Kerry Roth at (904) 256-‐6985 or k.roth@fscj.edu
