2021 Game Recaps V June 15 vs Farmington The Mustangs lost 1-0 to Farmington in the quarterfinals of the State Tournament Farmington’s Korey Dahlberg allowed just hits, walks and he struck out Ben Rosin was again outstanding on the mound for the Mustangs, allowing just hits and walks, and he also struck out Rosin faced the minimum in of his innings, and he struck out the side in the 4th The Mustangs threatened in the 3rd when Cooper Kleppe reached on a strike that got away from the catcher, and Mason Dean singled With those runners on 1st and 2nd, a Will Rogers liner up the middle was snagged by the pitcher and he was able to turn it into a double play to end the inning The Mustangs loaded the bases in the 6th on back-to-back walks from Dean and Will Rogers, and a base hit by Blake Guerin A Logan Grimm sharply hit ball was turned into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat Offensively, Dean and Rogers both reached safely twice with a single and a walk Guerin had the 3rd hit, and Reid Thurston had a walk Farmington advances to the semi-finals to play Minnetonka who defeated #1 seeded Stillwater earlier in the day The season ends for the Mustangs as there is no state tournament consolation play in 2021 It’s hard when the season ends abruptly and unexpectedly The players worked hard to earn the opportunity to play in the state tournament; we are extremely proud of them and all they accomplished together this season When the sting wears off, we believe they will have some great memories of a high school baseball season with their lifelong friends and teammates June vs Roseville The Mustangs defeated the Raiders 6-0 to win the Section 5AAAA Championship Ben Rosin pitched his 2nd shutout of the Section tournament; throwing all innings, allowing just hits and walks, and he struck out Rosin had four 1-2-3 innings, including the 5th, 6th and 7th to close out the game The Raiders loaded the bases with a double and a pair of walks in the 3rd, but Rosin was able to work out of the jam with no damage For the Section tournament, the Mustangs pitchers did not allow an earned run in the games, and allowed just unearned run The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Reid Thurston led off with a triple, and Drew Rogers knocked him in with a base hit The Mustangs tacked on more in the 3rd with a lead-off double by Will Rogers and an RBI base hit by Logan Grimm Grimm later scored on an RBI ground ball by Ryan Seim In the bottom of the 5th, the Mustangs put more on the board for the 6-0 final Grimm led off with a HBP Thurston sac bunted Grimm to 2B Drew Rogers reached on a ground ball to 3B and Seim walked A Cooper Kleppe ground ball plated both Grimm and Gabe Jauch (running for Drew Rogers) Brendan Goldman doubled to score Seim to complete the scoring Defensively, the Mustangs committed no errors on the day Mason Dean made some nice plays at SS with assists in the game Thurston ran down a couple of tough fly balls and he had putouts Blake Guerin made an outstanding play on a ground ball down the 3B line and deep, and threw out the batter Offensively, the Mustangs had hits on the day; for extra bases  Goldman had hits, including a double, and an RBI and a SB  Grimm also had a multi-hit day with a single and a double, a HBP, an RBI and runs scored  Thurston had a triple, a walk, a sac bunt, and a run scored  Will Rogers had the fourth extra-base hit with a double and a run scored  Dean reached safely twice with a single and a walk  Drew Rogers had a single and an RBI  Seim had a walk, an RBI and a run scored  Kleppe had RBI’s  Jauch had a run scored The Mustangs advance to the AAAA State Tournament The schedule:  Tuesday, June 15 - Quarterfinals @ Chaska Athletic Park (No Consolation Bracket in 2021 - teams that lose the quarterfinal games are done)  Wednesday, June 16 - Semi-Finals and 3rd Place @ Chaska Athletic Park  Friday, June 18 - Championship @ Target Field Seeding is done Saturday and will determine the opponent and game time for Tuesday’s quarterfinal MSHSL link for state tournament brackets: 2021 State Baseball Brackets | MSHSL June vs Roseville In the 3rd round of the Section playoffs, the Mustangs defeated Roseville 12-1 in innings Will Rogers threw all innings; allowing earned runs, just hits and walk, and he struck out Rogers was dominant after the 1st inning; facing the minimum in each of the final innings worked The Mustangs pitchers have given up run and earned runs combined in the first games of the Section playoffs Roseville loaded the bases in the 1st inning, aided by a couple Mustangs errors and a walk They scored run, but Rogers worked out of it to limit the damage to just the run The Mustangs tied it at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the 1st when Brendan Goldman and Mason Dean led off the inning with base hits, and Blake Guerin later delivered a 2out RBI base hit to score Goldman The Mustangs exploded for runs in the 2nd inning, with every position in the batting lineup reaching on a hit, walk or HBP, and every position also scoring a run to make the score 10-1 Two insurance runs were added in the 3rd to create the 12-1 final Defensively, the Mustangs started off shaky in the 1st inning with the errors, but were solid after that The game ended on a Chervany (2B) to Dean (SS) to Grimm (1B) double play The Mustangs pounded out 13 hits on the day Three hitters were perfect on the day: Goldman was 3/3 with an RBI and Runs Reid Thurston was 3/3 with a Double, RBI and a Run Guerin was 2/2 with a Walk, RBI’s and a Run Two hitters reached safely two of their plate appearances: Will Rogers was 2/3 with a Double and RBI’s (Leo Fleischhacker scoring Runs courtesy running) Dean was for with a Walk and a Run All other hitters in the lineup reached safely at least time:  Grimm: HBP, RBI, Run  Drew Rogers: Single (Gabe Jauch scoring a run courtesy running)  Ryan Seim: Walk, Run, RBI  Connor Chervany: Single, Run, RBI The win puts the Mustangs in the Section 5AAAA Championship next Wednesday, June @ 6:00PM @ Osseo High School If the Mustangs win the 6:00PM game, they win the Section Championship If the opponent wins the 6:00PM game, there will be a Game immediately following to determine the Section Champion Other Section 5AAAA scores today in the losers bracket:  Irondale 3, Park Center (Park Center eliminated)  Spring Lake Park 2, Osseo (Osseo eliminated) On Monday, June 7:  Irondale will face Spring Lake Park @ 4:00PM @ Osseo High School  The winner of that 4:00PM game will then face Roseville @ 7:00PM with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s Championship against the Mustangs needing to win games for a Section Championship June vs Spring Lake Park In the 2nd round of the Section playoffs, the Mustangs defeated Spring Lake Park 10-0 in innings at Mounds View High School Ben Rosin pitched outstanding shutout innings, only allowing hit and walk, and he struck out Thus far in Section games, the Mustangs pitching has not allowed a run The Mustangs threatened in the 1st, but failed to score In the 2nd, they put on the board With out, Drew Rogers reached on an error to start things The next batters reached base: Ryan Seim singled, Cooper Kleppe walked, Brendan Goldman doubled in runs, Mason Dean reached on an error, Will Rogers walked, and Blake Guerin singled in runs When it was over, the Mustangs led 6-0 The Mustangs tacked on runs in the 4th to produce the 10-0 final Goldman got his 3rd hit of the day to start things, Dean followed with a single, and Guerin again knocked in runs with a base hit Logan Grimm reached on a fielders choice and Reid Thurston followed with a base hit A Drew Rogers base hit knocked in Grimm, and Thurston later scored the 10th run on a wild pitch The Mustangs were not flawless in the field today; committing errors In the top of the 3rd, Spring Lake Park had runners on 1B and 2B with out when Catcher Will Rogers picked off the runner on 1B with Grimm applying the tag Offensively, Goldman was 3/3 with a Double, RBI’s, Runs, and a SB Guerin was 2/2 with a Walk and RBI’s For the 2nd game in a row, all hitting starters put stats in the scorebook today – the other starters:  Dean: 1/3, Runs, RBI, SB  Will Rogers: Walk (Leo Fleischhacker courtesy running scored)  Grimm: Run, RBI  Thurston: 1/3, Run  Drew Rogers: 1/3, Run, RBI  Seim: 1/1, Walks, Run  Kleppe: Walk, Run The Mustangs advance in the winners bracket to play Roseville on Friday, June at 7:00PM at Osseo High School Roseville defeated Irondale today 15-5 in the other winners bracket game The winner of the game on Friday will advance to next Wednesday’s Section Championship Game, and the loser will play on Monday for a chance to advance to Wednesday’s Championship Game Section 5AAAA Losers Bracket scores today:  Park Center 4, Totino-Grace – Totino Grace eliminated  Osseo 9, Champlin Park – Champlin Park eliminated May 31 vs Park Center In the first round of the Section playoffs, #1 seed Mounds View hosted #8 seed Park Center The Mustangs won 10-0 in innings Andrew Boeser backed up his outstanding performance @ Osseo last Monday with a inning shutout today, allowing hits, walks and he struck out 11 Last Monday, Boeser struck out 12 of his 18 outs (67%) Today, 11 of his 15 outs were strikeouts; 73% The Mustangs put on the board in the 1st inning when Mason Dean walked and later scored on a 2-out RBI single by Logan Grimm In the 2nd, the Mustangs scored 4; all with no one on and outs A single by Brendan Goldman, back-to-back triples by Dean and Will Rogers, a double by Blake Guerin and a single by Grimm plated the runs The Mustangs tacked on more in the 3rd to make it 7-0 A pair of hits by Dean and Seim, a walk by Kleppe, and a Pirates error led to Kleppe and Goldman scoring In the 4th, more runs were added when Grimm (2B) and Thurston (1B) led off with hits A Drew Rogers single plated Grimm, and a sac fly by Kleppe scored Thurston In the 5th, the Mustangs walked off with the 10-run victory when Dean led off with a double, and Will Rogers also doubled to score Dean with the winning run Defensively, the Mustangs made a handful of plays when Boeser wasn’t striking batters out Offensively, the Mustangs had 15 hits, and all offensive starters contributed to the scoring  Goldman: Singles, Runs, SB  Dean: Triple, Double, Single, BB, runs, and an RBI  Will Rogers: Triple, Double, RBI  Guerin: Double, Run, RBI  Grimm: Doubles, Single, RBI, Run  Thurston: Single, BB, Run  Drew Rogers: Single, RBI  Seim: Singles  Kleppe: BB, Run, RBI  Leo Fleischhacker scored a run as a courtesy runner in his first varsity game Thanks to all those that helped work on the field this weekend in preparation for hosting Section Playoff games this week! out the regular season with a 4-1 victory at Osseo on Monday night Andrew Boeser was dominant on the mound for the Mustangs, going complete to record his team leading 5th win of the season, allowing the earned run, just hits and walks, and 12 of his 18 outs recorded were strikeouts (2/3) He faced the minimum of hitters in of his innings worked, and he struck out the side in the 4th Blake Guerin pitched the 7th; facing the minimum and striking out to earn his 4th save of the season The Mustangs plated in the top of the 2nd when Guerin led off with a base hit, and Logan Grimm and Reid Thurston followed with walks to load the bases with outs Drew Rogers then also walked to score Guerin Cooper Kleppe knocked in Grimm on a fielders choice The Mustangs made it 3-0 in the 3rd Mason Dean led off with a base hit, stole 2B, and advanced to 3B where he then scored on a double steal executed by he and Grimm In the top of the 5th, the Mustangs made it 4-0 when Brendan Goldman reached on a hit, stole 2B, advanced to 3B, and was then driven in on a base hit by Will Rogers The Orioles worked walks to start their half of the 6th, and an excellent play on a slow roller to 2B by Kleppe got the batter out, thus preventing a bases loaded and outs jam The runner on 3B did eventually score on a wild pitch to create the 4-1 final score, but Boeser retired the next batters to end the threat Defensively, the Kleppe play was important Guerin made a diving catch of a soft fly ball behind the mound in the 7th Catcher Will Rogers picked off a runner at 1B with runners at 1B and 2B in the 5th with no outs - taking momentum away from the Orioles The Mustangs committed no errors on the day Offensively, the first hitters in the lineup recorded stats in the scorebook:  Goldman had a Single, Run and SB  Dean had a Single, Run and SB  Will Rogers had a Single, RBI and SB  Guerin had a Single and a Run  Grimm had BB, Run, and SB  Reid Thurston had BB and a SB  Drew Rogers had a BB and an RBI  Kleppe had an RBI and a SB The Section 5AAAA Seeding Meeting is Thursday evening We feel worthy of the #1 seed with the best record in the Section (13-7), the highest QRF Ranking in the Section, and we play in the tough Suburban East Conference The opening game of the Section playoffs for the Mustangs will be on Monday, May 31 at 1:00PM at MVHS May @ Irondale The crosstown rivals and friends played at Irondale on Friday The Mustangs won 3-0 behind a dominant pitching performance from Will Rogers He threw a complete game shutout, scattering hits, walking just 1, and he struck out batters Rogers record moves to 3-1, and his season ERA is an impressive 1.08 in 26 innings of work The Mustangs faced another quality pitcher in Jack Zupfer, headed to St Thomas next year for their first year as a Division baseball school Zupfer went innings before reaching the pitch count limit, allowing earned run, hits, walks and he also struck out The Mustangs jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, taking advantage of an error allowing Brendan Goldman to reach Goldman eventually scored on a successful double steal with Reid Thurston who had drawn a walk to reach base Will Rogers led off the top of the 4th with a walk, and later scored on an RBI single from Blake Guerin The Mustangs finished their scoring in the 6th when Guerin reached on an error and advanced to 2B on a walk to Logan Grimm Zack Schulte ran for Guerin and scored on an RBI base hit from Ryan Seim Defensively, the Mustangs were reliable in the field, committing errors Catcher Drew Rogers threw out a would-be base stealer attempting to steal 2B Offensively, Goldman had a multi-hit day with singles, a SB, and a Run scored Will Rogers reached base times with a single and a BB, and he scored a Run Guerin and Seim each had a base hit and an RBI Thurston (SB also) and Grimm each had a walk, and Schulte scored a Run Next week the Mustangs host Cretin-Derham Hall on Monday (Teacher Appreciation Day), travel to Forest Lake on Wednesday night under the lights, and travel to East Ridge on Friday afternoon As usual in a Minnesota High School Baseball season, it feels like it's early, but it's getting late quickly Just two weeks to go in the regular season The Mustangs record stands at 8-4 with games to go Current Suburban East Conference standings are below While there is no such thing as Section standings; Section team current records are below Section seeding is done after the regular season and is done by Coaches vote The Mustangs have several key statistical goals that we track throughout the season The coaches have the same statistical goals each season; statistical goals that we believe are required to achieve in order for the team to be able to compete for a Section championship The players meet as a team prior to the season and determine if they would like to modify these key statistical goals Three of the major goals are:  Team ERA: Coaches Goal: 2.99 2021 Players Goal: 2.50 Roseville The Mustangs came away with a 3-1 victory vs Roseville under the lights at the University of Northwestern It was a tight ballgame, with good intensity, and both starting pitchers were able to work out of several jams to keep it a low scoring affair The Raiders jumped to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the 1st; a HBP, a base hit and the lone error for the Mustangs in the game produced the run for the Raiders The Mustangs plated in the top of the 3rd when Mason Dean walked and Will Rogers produced a 2-run HR to give the Mustangs the 2-1 lead The Mustangs added one more run in the 4th when Blake Guerin led off with a walk, and eventually scored on a base hit by Brendan Goldman Ben Rosin went innings to get the win He allowed earned runs, hits, walks, HBP’s, and he struck out Rosin did not have his best “stuff” tonight, but he made some adjustments, got stronger as the game wore on, he competed hard, and he struck out batters in his last inning of work Reid Thurston came in and struck out the side in the 7th to earn the save Defensively, aside from the error, the Mustangs made the plays 2B’man Cooper Kleppe turned a shallow pop-up in right field into a double play by quickly throwing a strike to Logan Grimm at 1B after the catch to double up the runner on 1B Kleppe had assists on the day, and Guerin had nice assists at 3B as well Catcher Will Rogers blocked a ball in the dirt, and threw out a runner attempting to advance from 2B to 3B on the pitch in the dirt Offensively, the Mustangs totaled hits on the day; Will Rogers with the lone multi-hit day, producing the 2-Run HR, a double off the wall, a walk, RBI’s and a Run scored Other offensive contributors were:  Dean: Single, Walk, Run  Goldman: Single, RBI  Thurston: Single, SB  Guerin: Walk, Run  Logan Grimm: Single  Drew Rogers: Single The Mustangs close out the week at Irondale on Friday at 4:30PM May @ Park The Mustangs traveled to face Suburban East Conference Co-Leader Park (8-1) on Monday With numerous MLB scouts in attendance, the Mustangs held on for a 8-4 victory The big left-handed Tucker Novotny, a Minnesota Gopher recruit, was on the hill for the Wolfpack The Mustangs put on the board in the top of the 1st.with singles from Brendan Goldman, Will Rogers and Logan Grimm (a RBI base hit), and walks from Drew Rogers and Luke Morrisette Some defensive miscues by the Wolfpack also helped the cause The runs were scored by Goldman, Will Rogers, Grimm, Drew Rogers, and Morrisette After scoring in the 1st, Novotny settled in and held the Mustangs scoreless in the 2nd – 5th innings, striking out Mustang hitters through innings of work Andrew Boeser started on the mound for the Mustangs, and pitched very well to hold Park to just run through innings The Wolfpack rallied in the bottom of the 5th to score runs to make the score 5-4 through innings The Mustangs got a run back in the top of the 6th on Freshman Drew Rogers’ first varsity HR; a solo shot over the LF fence to make the score 6-4 The Mustangs added some insurance in the top of the 7th Goldman and Mason Dean led off the inning with walks, and a Reid Thurston RBI base hit scored Goldman Grimm got his 2nd hit of the day, and a Grimm-Thurston successful double steal scored Thurston The runs gave the Mustangs a little breathing room at 8-4, and it held up Boeser went and 2/3 to earn the win He scattered hits and walks, and he struck out Blake Guerin came in to get the Mustangs out of a Wolfpack rally in the 5th, and went the rest of the way for and 1/3 innings to earn a save, surrendering runs, hit, walk, and he struck out Defensively, the Mustangs committed errors in the Scorebook, but we could have been more aggressive on a couple fly balls in the outfield that fell for hits Goldman made a diving stab of an outfield liner in the bottom of the 1st to prevent a run from scoring Grimm was busy at 1B; making nice plays on pop ups for outs Offensively, two players had multi-hit days, and total players put stats in the book:  Logan Grimm: singles, BB, RBI’s, Run, SB  Drew Rogers: HR, BB, RBI, Runs, Sac Bunt  Brendan Goldman: single, BB, Runs, SB  Will Rogers: singles, Run  Reid Thurston: single, RBI, Run, SB  Luke Morrisette: BB, Run  Mason Dean: BB The Mustangs travel to play Roseville on the road under the lights at the University of Northwestern on Wednesday night at 7:00PM May vs Blaine The Mustangs played host to Blaine on a beautiful Saturday afternoon The Mustangs did not play extremely well in all facets of the game, but were able to come away with a 7-6 win The Mustangs opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd when Reid Thurston led off with a triple, and scored on an RBI single by Luke Morrisette Adding a run in the 3rd, the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead Mason Dean led off the inning with a walk and advanced to 3B with a pair of stolen bases With outs, Blake Guerin walked, and Gabe Jauch ran for Guerin Jauch and Dean then executed a double steal to plate Dean for the 2nd run of the game The Bengals plated in the top of the 4th to jump ahead 3-2 The Mustangs responded in the bottom half of the 4th with runs to reclaim the lead at 4-3 Morrisette led off the inning with a walk, and with out Cooper Kleppe reached on an error Morrisette scored on an RBI base hit from Brendan Goldman, and Kleppe scored on another successful double steal Blaine knotted the score at 4-4 with a run in the top of the 5th, and the Mustangs scored in the bottom of the 5th to re-take the lead 5-4 A single by Thurston, followed by a stolen base and an error put him on 3B, and Morrisette drove him in with a base hit to produce his 2nd RBI on the day The Mustangs added runs in the 6th to make it 7-4 Goldman led off with a single, stole 2B and 3B, and Will Rogers delivered a 2-run HR over the center field fence The Mustangs needed the insurance runs as Blaine rallied for in the top of the 7th to make the final 7-6 Logan Grimm started on the mound for the Mustangs, and pitched scoreless, allowing just hit and walk Cole Hinkel pitched the 4th and 5th to record the Win, allowing hits, a walk and a HBP – he stranded Bengal runners in his innings Drew Rogers made his first varsity pitching appearance finishing the final innings to get the save, allowing hits, a walk and a HBP, and he struck out – he worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th with an inning ending strikeout, and retired the final out of the game with Blaine runners on 1B and 2B Defensively the Mustangs had a rough day; committing errors Offensively, the Mustangs had hits and 10 stolen bases Multi-hit days were produced by:  Will Rogers: HR, Double, BB, RBI, Run  Thurston: Triple, Single, SB, Runs   Morrisette: Singles, BB, RBI, SB, Run Goldman: Singles, RBI, Run, SB’s Others in the Box Score offensively:  Dean walked, scored a Run, and had SB’s  Kleppe had a base hit, a Run and a SB  Jauch had a SB  Guerin had a walk  Drew Rogers drew a walk  Diekoff had a sacrifice bunt The Mustangs finish the week 3-1, and 5-4 overall for the season The Mustangs travel to Park on Monday and likely face another Suburban East D1 pitcher in future Minnesota Gopher LHP Tucker Novotny This will be the 4th D1 pitcher the Mustangs will face in Suburban East Conference play thus far We embrace the challenge as it helps prepare us for the playoffs a few weeks down the line April 30 @ Woodbury The Mustangs traveled to Woodbury and came away with a hard fought 4-2 victory in innings As expected, there were dominating performances on the mound in the game Club Baseball teammates, future Arizona State catcher Will Rogers for the Mustangs, and future Minnesota Gopher pitcher Sam Malec for Woodbury Both were outstanding and efficient enough to pitch all innings for their teams Malec gave up the runs on hits, striking out 10 and walking Will Rogers was able to get the better of this pitcher’s duel today giving up only earned run on hits and BB, and he struck out In the final innings of work for Will Rogers, he faced just over the minimum Freshman Drew Rogers caught his brother in his first varsity appearance behind the plate After Malec struck out the first batters in the top of the 2nd, the Mustangs opened the scoring on a Reid Thurston solo shot over the left field fence The Royals capitalized on some Mustangs defensive miscues in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead The Mustangs tied it up at 2-2 in the 4th on a solo HR from Will Rogers The Royals made outstanding defensive plays to keep the Mustangs from taking the lead in regulation Heading to the 8th inning, Luke Morrisette, pinch hitting, laced a single down the LF line to lead off the inning A Cooper Kleppe sacrifice bunt right in front of the plate ultimately resulted in Morrisette on 3B and Kleppe on 2B with no outs Malec retired the next batter and then Mason Dean delivered a line shot double to plate both runners and give the Mustangs the 2-run lead The Mustangs weren’t flawless today in the field with a couple of errors that helped the Royals score their runs That said, the Mustangs were solid outside of that inning Drew Rogers made a nice play on a bunt to retire the batter, as well as blocking pitches in the dirt on strike and retiring the runners at 1B Reid Thurston was busy in Center Field recording putouts game week on Saturday when they host Blaine at 1:00PM April 28 vs Stillwater The Mustangs hosted Stillwater on Wednesday, and the Ponies stayed perfect on the season with a 1-0 victory over the Mustangs It was an outstanding pitcher’s duel between future college pitchers Ben Rosin (North Iowa Area Community College) for the Mustangs and Gavin Zurn (North Dakota State University) for the Ponies Both pitched very comparable complete games Rosin gave up the run, scattered hits and BB’s, and he struck out Stillwater put a runner on 2B in the 2nd, 4th and 6th innings, and Rosin was able to work out of the innings with no damage The Ponies finally converted in the 7th with a base hit with a runner on 2B to score the game winning run Zurn also gave up hits, along with a BB and a HBP, and he also struck out Zurn turned away Mustang scoring chances in the 1st, 4th and 6th innings when the Mustangs advanced a runner to 2B Defensively, both teams made the plays, and committed errors Offensively for the Mustangs, the singles were produced by Mason Dean (also BB), Will Rogers (also HBP), Logan Grimm, Reid Thurston, and Cooper Kleppe Brendan Goldman had a SB Fun Fact: Until today, on Friday April 26 @ White Bear Lake The Mustangs traveled to White Bear Lake for the first road game of the season, and prevailed 18-9 in a long game in cold conditions Everybody in the dugout participated and contributed to the win With outs in the top of the 1st, Will Rogers hit one through the wind and over the LF fence to start the scoring, The Mustangs rallied for more that inning to jump to a 5-0 lead The Mustangs added in the 2nd inning and in the 3rd inning to take a seemingly commanding 12-0 lead The Bears battled back and tallied runs on the bottom half of the 4th to make it a game again at 12-8 The Mustangs responded with a pair of runs in the top of the 5th, and the Bears added another in the bottom half of the 6th to make the score 14-9 The Mustangs put the game away in the top of the 7th with runs to create the 18-9 final Andrew Boeser started on the mound for the Mustangs and pitched very well to earn the win With the long Mustangs offensive innings and cold weather, Boeser went just innings, allowing runs, just hit and walks; he pitched very efficiently with just 38 pitches thrown Will Conlin and Logan Grimm pitched the 4th Blake Guerin brought the Mustangs home in pitching the final innings to earn a save, allowing run, hits, walks, and he struck out Offensively, the Mustangs produced 14 hits, 10 walks, 10 SB’s, 14 RBI’s and HBP on the day The and the Raptors broke through with in the 6th and in the 7th to prevail 4-0 The Mustangs threatened in the 2nd by loading the bases with outs, and also put a runner on 2B in the 4th and 5th, but were unable to convert these scoring opportunities into a run Will Rogers was dominant on the mound for the Mustangs; through innings he faced just over the minimum; retiring the side in order in of the first innings After outs, the Raptors put hits together in the 6th to break the scoreless tie and take a 2-0 lead In the 7th, the Raptors took advantage of a couple walks and an error, and a couple of sacrifice fly balls plated more for the 4-0 final score Will Rogers completed innings, recording 10 strikeouts, giving up hits and he walked none Reid Thurston threw the 7th for the Mustangs, striking out 1, walking and allowing no hits The Raptors starting pitcher Ben North was equally dominant, throwing innings, allowing just hit, striking out and he gave up walks to earn the win Defensively, the Mustangs made some nice plays, but also committed errors Offensively, Mounds View could only muster hits; both delivered by Mason Dean Ryan Seim reached safely twice on a walk and a HBP Will Rogers and Blake Guerin also walked, and Brendan Goldman was HBP The Mustangs travel to White Bear Lake on Monday for their first road contest of the season April 21 vs Forest Lake The Mustangs hosted their 4th home game in a row to start the season and held on to defeat Forest Lake 2-0 Both teams put runners on 1st and 2nd in the first inning with out but failed to score The Mustangs put their runs on the scoreboard in the 2nd Reid Thurston, Blake Guerin and Drew Rogers all produced base hits to load the bases with outs Mason Dean coaxed a walk to score Thurston and a Cooper Kleppe ground out to SS scored Guerin The Mustangs pitched well again today Ben Rosin started and went innings to record the win, giving up only hit, striking out 8, and he walked Andrew Boeser went the 6th and 7th to earn hosted their crosstown rivals and friends from Irondale today, and came away with a 2-1 victory The big story of the day was the Mustangs pitching Will Rogers started and went innings After the Knights opened the game with a walk, a hit and an eventual squeeze bunt run, Rogers was dominant Following the walk and hit, he retired the next 15 batters in a row, with 13 K’s including 11 in a row Paul Diekoff pitched a perfect 6th inning with one K, and required only 10 pitches to get it done Reid Thurston pitched a perfect 7th with K’s, and was also efficient with 13 pitches thrown The Mustangs tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd when Brendan Goldman led off the inning with a base hit, he stole 2B and advanced to 3B on a strikeout in the dirt and throw to 1B An error on a Ryan Seim pop-up allowed Goldman to score In the 5th, Mason Dean walked and stole 2B, and scored on an RBI base hit from Will Rogers to give the Mustangs the 2-1 lead The Mustangs had the bases loaded later in the inning, but were unable to add to the lead Defensively, few plays were necessary with the dominant Mustangs pitching, but all plays were made, including a gem of a play on a good bunt by Rogers as the catcher late in the game to retire the batter at 1B Offensively, the Knights pitching limited the Mustangs to hits Dean reached safely times with a base hit and walks, and had a stolen base Rogers, Logan Grimm and Goldman had the other hits Rogers and Seim had the RBI’s Goldman and Seim each had a stolen base The team will welcome 120 SAYB players for a catching camp and 150 SAYB players for a pitching camp Saturday morning! They travel to Cretin-Derham Hall on Monday for the first road game of the season April 15 vs Park For the second game in a row, the Mustangs were unable to capitalize offensively, and the Wolfpack went home with a 2-1 victory A leadoff walk followed by a pair of singles and an error gave the Wolfpack a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, and that’s all they would need In the bottom of the 5th, Brendan Goldman led off with a walk, and a base hit by Reid Thurston advanced Goldman to 3B to put runners on the corners with no outs Connor Chervany produced a sacrifice fly to score Goldman to make the score 2-1 The Mustangs got the leadoff batter on in other innings as well, but were unable to advance a runner across the plate Wolfpack pitching held the Mustangs to singles on the day Andrew Boeser started on the mound for Mounds View and went strong innings, allowing the runs, and he struck out and walked Logan Grimm pitched the final innings very efficiently, facing the minimum and only throwing 21 pitches Defensively, the Mustangs were solid but for the one error Cooper Kleppe was very busy at 2B with put-outs and an assist - Kleppe made an outstanding over the shoulder catch of a shallow fly ball in right field The infield was busy and Paul Diekoff recorded putouts at 1B The Mustangs pitching and defense turned in five 1-2-3 innings today Offensively, Kleppe and Grimm led the way with multi-hit games, and Thurston had the 5th hit for the Mustangs along with a SB Chervany had the RBI; producing the run scored by Goldman The Mustangs host cross-town rival Irondale on Friday at 4:30PM April 14 vs Roseville The Mustangs hosted the Raiders in the season opener for Mounds View Roseville was coming off a 16-5 victory over Cretin-Derham Hall on Monday The Raiders prevailed 6-4 on a cold and wet day After scoreless innings, Roseville took a 1-0 lead with a lead-off double and an eventual sacrifice fly to score the run The Mustangs responded with runs in the bottom of the 4th Cooper Kleppe led off with a base hit, and Reid Thurston produced a 2-out triple to score him Logan Grimm then delivered another 2-out RBI with a base hit to score Thurston The Raiders converted hits and a couple walks to produce runs in the top of the 5th to take a 4-2 lead They added to their lead with runs in the 6th on a pair of doubles and a single for a 6-2 lead In the bottom of the 7th; Grimm (E), Drew Rogers (HBP) and Brendan Goldman (Hit) all reached safely to load the bases with no outs A Mason Dean fielder’s choice and a base hit from Kleppe produced runs, but the Raiders were able to escape further damage and get the win 6-4 Ben Rosin started on the mound for the Mustangs and went innings, scattered hits and walks, striking out 3, and gave up the earned run Cole HInkel pitched an inning, and Blake Guerin went the final innings and struck out Defensively, the Mustangs made the plays in the field, committing errors and turned a Dean (SS) to Kleppe (2B) to Grimm (1B) double play Offensively, Kleppe had a multi-hit day with a pair of singles, a run scored and an RBI Thurston had the lone extra base hit with his 2-out RBI triple Dean and Grimm also chipped in RBI’s Will Rogers had a SB The Mustangs host Park on Thursday and they host Irondale on Friday ...
