Describe how the data from these tools and/or methods will be/have been collected 3.Explain the procedure to analyze the data D Use of Evaluation Results 1.List any specific recommendations Describe changes in curriculum, courses, or procedures that are proposed or were made/ are being made as a result of the program learning outcome assessment process N/A [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 III Goals For the Current Year A Goal # 1: Increase external financial support for the College of Business Institutional Goal which was supported by this goal:  SP Friends of Delta State University, along with the general public, will become more aware and more supportive of the institution  SP The citizens of the region will benefit from increases in university outreach, service, and partnership initiatives Evaluation Procedure(s): Measure gifts &/or grants awarded DSU through efforts of this office Actual Results of Evaluation: During the 08/09 the Chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology was awarded Regional Innovation Coordination grant by the Mississippi Technology Alliance in the amount of $25,000 An account for Entrepreneurship was also established with the DSU Foundation and private contributions were being made regularly Use of Evaluation Results: Grant opportunities continue to be reviewed as suggested by the Grants & Contracts office B Goal #2 Increase partnerships between the College of Business and external constituents Institutional Goal which was supported by this goal:  SP The citizens of the region will benefit from increases in university outreach, service, and partnership initiatives Evaluation Procedure(s): Determine number of organizations partnered with and individuals effected Actual Results of Evaluation: The unit established partnerships with the following organizations: [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09  Mississippi Technology Alliance  Mississippi Valley State University  Delta Citizens Alliance  Delta Economic Development Center of Washington County  Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce  Cleveland Networking Alliance  Mississippi State Community Action Team – First Impressions  The Montgomery Institute  University of Southern Mississippi  Greenwood-Leflore Chamber of Commerce  MDCC Capps Center  Grenada Chamber of Commerce  BB King Museum  Coopwood Communications  Mississippi Development Authority  The Cleveland Current Newspaper  The Bolivar Commercial Newspaper  WABG Television  WXVT Television  The DSU Center for Community and Economic Development  Cleveland School District  Leland School District  West Bolivar School District Use of Evaluation Results: Better tracking of individual participants is needed to assure accurate accounting of those participating It is recommended that databases developed in the past year be audited for accuracy and thoroughness C Goal #3 To offer and make available training sessions, workshops, seminars, and conferences to the general public, which will keep small business owners, managers, and employees up-to-date in a variety of small business topics [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 University Goal:  SP Friends of Delta State University, along with the general public, will become more aware and more supportive of the institution Evaluation Procedure(s): Measure number of events and attendees Actual Results of Evaluation: The Chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology coordinated and hosted the following events:  10 Discovery Luncheons – Networking events for entrepreneurs, investors and service providers These events were held in the following cities: o Cleveland o Grenada o Clarksdale o Greenville o Greenwood o Indianola  Angel meetings – Meetings developing angel investing networks  ILED Training events – Innovation Led Economic Development (ILED) is the cornerstone of high growth entrepreneurship and the model upon which the RIC Partnership with the Mississippi Technology Alliance is based Four workshops were conducted across the Mississippi Delta to introduce this model to the public  ILED Conference – In April DSU hosted the first ILED conference for entrepreneurs, resource providers, and investors Presenters included: o Chris Reed - The Montgomery Institute, Meridian, MS o Dr Lyn Stabler – Mississippi Technology Alliance o Bubba Wier – Mississippi Technology Alliance o Elise Jenkins – DSU Marketing Professor Emeritus o Dan Prevost – Aquatic Restoration Services o Chuck Herring – South Delta Planning and Development District o Dr Mark Snyder – Delta Music Institute Use of Evaluation Results: [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 While there were a number of events held across the Delta throughout the year, attendance was relatively low, averaging less than 20 per event Marketing and promotion of future events should take priority D Goal #4 Revise and implement the educational curriculum in Entrepreneurship for the following constituents:    Youth (high school students) Collegians Practicing entrepreneurs University Goal: SP - Enhanced academic programs will ensure that graduates are well prepared for successful careers and ready to contribute to the civic life of their communities Evaluation Procedure(s): Evidence of course restructuring and launch Actual Results of Evaluation: Youth – The Chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology has partnered with the University of Southern Mississippi and the DSU Center for Community and Economic Development in introducing the Southern Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) to the Mississippi Delta SEP is a curriculum to teach high school student the concepts of entrepreneurship It is based on the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship model and materials Approximately 40 high schools across the state will be active in the SEP in 2009/2010 The Chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology also partnered with the Small Business Development Center and the Center for Community and Economic Development in the redesign of content and the delivery of the Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) for the second consecutive year YEP is a summer program for high school students to learn concepts of entrepreneurship and the skills needed to succeed in business Collegians – A review of the current entrepreneurship curriculum was started in 08/09 The Chair is slated to become instructor of record for all Entrepreneurship and Small business Management courses in Fall 09/10 A special topics course, “Entrepreneurship in Tourism,” was developed and will launch in Fall 2010, using field-based learning Practicing Entrepreneurs – As stated in Goal 3, ILED-based curricula were implemented in training and development of practitioners workshops and one conference were conducted using these materials Use of Evaluation Results: [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 Continued efforts to revise the collegiate curriculum should continue in the coming year For Coming Year(s) A Goal # 1: Increase partnerships between the College of Business and external constituents Institutional Goal(s) supported by this goal: SP Goal # – Improve the quality of life for all constituents Evaluation Procedure(s): Measure partnerships established and maintained and compare to previous year Expected Results: Increase number of partnerships by 5% Anticipated/Intended Uses of Evaluation Results: B Goal #2 Increase external financial support for the College of Business Institutional Goal(s) supported by this goal: SP Goal # – Enhance institutional effectiveness Evaluation Procedure(s): Measure funding as compared to previous year Expected Results: An increase in both grant applications and monies awarded Anticipated/Intended Uses of Evaluation Results: IV Data and information for department: Brief Description and/or Narrative of programmatic scope: [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 The Chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology is funded by a grant from the Robert M Hearin Foundation The Chair provides leadership in the College of Business on curriculum development, teaching, scholarship, and service in the areas of entrepreneurship and business technology The Chair works closely with area entrepreneurs, University and community partners to expand the knowledge and effective use of business technology Comparative Data (enrollment, CHP, majors, graduation rates, etc): N/A Grants, Contracts, Partnerships, Other Accomplishments: See Goals for Current Year #s & Economic Development initiatives and/or impact: The Chair conducted more than a dozen networking and training sessions during the year with more than 200 participants Many of these participants went on to open businesses with a substantial investment of capital and creation of jobs Diversity Compliance Initiatives and Progress: Committees reporting to unit (Committee records archived in _ ): N/A V Personnel: Noteworthy activities and accomplishments: Attended the ASBDC National Conference in Chicago, IL Presented papers at the ACHE National Conference in Nashville, TN and the ACHE South Conference in Baton Rouge, LA Completed ILED training Certified as a Train-the-Trainer for the Southern Entrepreneurship Program Completed MyBIZ training through The Montgomery Institute Developed new course – “Entrepreneurship in Tourism” Continue to mentor senior theses in the Interdisciplinary Studies program New position(s) requested, with justification: N/A [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 Recommended change of status; None VI Degree Program Addition/Deletions and/or Major Curriculum Changes: Changes made in the past year: None Recommended changes for the coming year(s): N/A [Entrepreneurship in Business Technology] Unit Plan and Report 2008-09 ... workshops, seminars, and conferences to the general public, which will keep small business owners, managers, and employees up-to-date in a variety of small business topics [Entrepreneurship in Business...
