Summer Housing for Laurel GE Healthcare Interns Relocating to Maryland for your internship can be a great opportunity to meet new people and explore a new area Here are some tips on finding affordable and convenient housing for the summer The University of Maryland College Park campus is a great place to find housing because many students want to sublet their apartments for the summer You can find apartments at a VERY reduced price because students want to make up some of their rent money and are willing to cut a deal to so College Park is a 20-minute drive from GE Healthcare with no traffic There are many restaurants in College Park and it’s just a short metro ride away from Washington, DC If you chose to live in College Park, you can also buy a membership to the recreation center to have pool and gym access Although College Park is an area with a young crowd and potentially cheap rent, you will need a car to commute to work Greenbelt is an area close to College park It’s a slightly quieter, more residential neighborhood In Greenbelt are Greenbelt Park and Buddy Attick Lake- two beautiful locations to check out if you move here Laurel and Columbia are two areas to consider for housing as well If you not have access to a car, Laurel is a good choice because it is close to GE Healthcare so it may be easier to get to work Housing may be more expensive and harder to find for only the summer in these areas because typically apartment complexes require year agreements However, for a slightly higher rent, they will often rent on a monthly basis Both of these areas are typically quieter more mature than college park They are also closer to Baltimore than Washington, DC A very important consideration when choosing a place to live is how you will commute to work If you are able to bring a car, make sure to map the route to get an estimated travel time If you not have a car, make sure that you are close to a metro station and plan out your commute at (http://www.mtamaryland.com/) before you sign a rental agreement to ensure that you are able to get to work using public transportation! Suggestion from a past EID: I lived at Sherwood Crossing Apartments in Elkridge, MD and it was great! It is about 15 minutes from the Laurel site, very safe, they have one bedroom apartments and two bedroom apartments The address is 6731 Old Waterloo Rd, Elkridge, MD 21075 For more info: http://www.kcmapts.com/sherwood-crossing/ Here are some helpful links… www.craigslist.com because you for just the summer months This is a great place to look for housing can often find housing http://www.och.umd.edu/ This is the University of Maryland off campus housing site Look here for sublet listings in College Park and in Greenbelt ** See the Map below for locations of these areas relative to GE Healthcare
