of Persons with Disabilities New York, 12-14 September 2012 Item of the provisional agenda* Election of the members of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under article 34 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Note by the Secretary-General Article 34 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provides for the establishment of a Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities It also provides that members of the Committee shall be elected by secret ballot from a list of persons nominated by the States parties from among their nationals at meetings of the Conference of States parties and that the initial election shall be held no later than six months after the date of entry into force of the Convention In compliance with article 34, paragraph 6, of the Convention, the SecretaryGeneral, in a note verbale dated May 2012, invited the States parties to submit their nominations for the election of members of the Committee not later than July 2012 The Secretary-General has prepared the following list, in alphabetical order, of all persons nominated by July 2012, indicating the States parties that had nominated
