Thirty three Graduate from the Pilot Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene The School of Biomedical Sciences hosted a 6-week pilot short course for The East African Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Diploma from 4th October 2010 to 12th November 2010 Twenty seven international students from Europe, Far East, USA, Canada, and Africa participated in the course Six Ugandans also trained on this program They graduated on 9th November 2010 at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, at a ceremony presided over by the Director General of Health Services, Dr Nathan Kenya-Mugisha This program was jointly organized by Makerere University College of Health Sciences, London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, University of Washington, Johns Hopkins University, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College, together with a number of research organizations in Uganda It has been upgraded to the East African Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Prof Alison from London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene giving a speech at the graduation ceremony attended by the then Director General of Health Services, Dr Nathan Kenya -Mugisha, the then Director Mulago Hospital-Dr Edward Dumba, Directors IDI-Alex Coutinho, Directorate of Research and Graduate Training- Prof Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya and Director Uganda Cancer Institute- Dr Jackson Orem New Course Targets Pharmaceutical Sector workers The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics initiated a new short course; ‘The Rational pharmaceutical management course’; an evening course tailored for participants with scientific background but with no prior training in pharmaceutical sciences and yet are interested in working in the pharmaceutical sector This 10-week course is run twice a year Medical Illustration Department Revolutionalises its Operations The Department of Medical Illustration completed digitalizing its service delivery; all teaching aids can be done and delivered in digital format and hard copy • • • • During the last one year the Department acquired a new fully-loaded computer to help in teaching and the production of scientific teaching aids completed the transformation of 418 teaching aids from analog and lantern slides into digital power point teaching materials refurbished; repaired and refilled 364 specimen pots in the Medical Museum embarked on the overhaul and refurbishing of its photography studio The new equipment will include a state- of- the- art studio lighting system complete with ceiling tracks and studio props Some of the samples of the work the Department has done on the ARKS study ... year the Department acquired a new fully-loaded computer to help in teaching and the production of scientific teaching aids completed the transformation of 418 teaching aids from analog and lantern... slides into digital power point teaching materials refurbished; repaired and refilled 364 specimen pots in the Medical Museum embarked on the overhaul and refurbishing of its photography studio The. .. participants with scientific background but with no prior training in pharmaceutical sciences and yet are interested in working in the pharmaceutical sector This 10-week course is run twice a
