Conway Hall, 51-55 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8TX ASSISTANT RECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION Note: You must possess the right to work in the UK to be eligible to apply for this position This role is not eligible for work permit sponsorship About the University of Notre Dame The University of Notre Dame is a Catholic research university of Notre Dame by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1842 that ranks among the top 20 colleges and universities in the United States About the University of Notre Dame (USA) in England The University operates an academic centre in the heart of Westminster and a Residence Hall in Waterloo to provide study abroad opportunities for its Notre Dame undergraduate and law students as well as promote intellectual exchange through conferences, seminars and events in London Please visit london.nd.edu for more information About the Assistant Rector Position The Assistant Rector position focuses on enhancing the quality of life in the Conway Hall Residence including fostering community, providing support and being attentive to the safety and security of residents The Assistant Rector must support the Catholic mission and Catholic identity of the University in all aspects of the job (https://www.nd.edu/about/mission-statement/) The Assistant Rector is expected to assume both a pastoral and an educative role with the students, actively supporting them in their growth and development The position requires an individual who is flexible enough to assume a variety of roles as dictated by the day to day needs of the residents It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities The Assistant Rector is an important link in creating an environment in which students develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others The Assistant Rector is required to live in the single room residence in Conway Hall provided for these purposes by Note Dame All utilities, maintenance, and council tax are included HOURS OF WORK - You will work an average of 30 hours per week This will include evenings of duty per week (from 7pm-12am) and 2-3 evenings of on call hours (from 12am-9am) During on-call hours you cannot be more than a 10 minute commute from the residence and must be reachable - - - - by phone at all times However, your hours of work will be such as are reasonably required to carry out your duties and responsibilities to the satisfaction of Notre Dame Should it be necessary to work for longer hours than what is specified, time off in lieu will be offered, but no additional remuneration will be payable You will be required to be present for arrival of each program, typically meeting groups at Heathrow Airport You will be an integral part of planning and participating in all orientation sessions You will be required to attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings and other meetings with Notre Dame staff as necessary during the day You may be called on to plan and accompany students on weekend daytrips or academic field trips Whenever you are required to travel on University business away from your normal place of work, appropriate and approved expenses will be paid for such travel You are required to be present during the departure date(s) of each group, participating in the check-out system and subsequent room inspections When Notre Dame students are not in residence, you are still required to be in residence and available for work; however, duty nights and on call responsibilities will be determined by the Rector depending upon the situation DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES Reporting: The Director of Student Affairs will act as supervisor; however, the Assistant Rector will be directly responsible to the Conway Hall Rector for all duties and work related responsibilities Student Development, Resource and Education: The Assistant Rector will, in collaboration with the Rector, assist in the development of community life The Assistant Rector connects residents to opportunities and resources available to them The Assistant Rector should know the students well enough to provide direct assistance or provide appropriate referrals in a variety of areas: academic, spiritual, social or personal The Assistant Rector must also be prepared to refer students with illness or in need of mental health care Pastoral: The Assistant Rector may be called upon to work with students in coordinating and participating in liturgies/Mass, prayer services, retreats and other programs to enhance the faith life of the community Student event planning and supervision: The Assistant Rector will support the Rector and the Student Activities Director in the planning of student events in line with the Catholic Mission of the institution, with duties including but not limited to: liaising with venue sites, coordinating event marketing, planning and supervising events both at Conway Hall and off-site The Assistant Rector agrees to take a Food Handling Certification Course Notre Dame will cover any expenses associated with the cost of this training Policy enforcement/safety: Assistant Rector is attentive to resident safety and hall security The Assistant Rector ensures students follow University and housing policies, including du Lac, A Guide to Student Life as well as the du Lac Supplement The Assistant Rector will be responsible for enforcing policies and community standards within the Conway Hall Community Emergency response: The Assistant Rector is a primary responder to emergencies within Conway Hall While the Assistant Rector will have designated duty and on call times, he/she is expected to assist with student emergencies as they arise The Assistant Rector agrees to be certified in First Aid/CPR Notre Dame will cover any expenses associated with the cost of this training Administrative tasks: The Assistant Rector is required to complete administrative paperwork as required by the Rector and the Director of Student Affairs, including learning and using the University of Notre Dame Maxient System through the Office of Community Standards, which records and logs the process of community standards violations This will also include diligence in reporting any maintenance or building issues to the appropriate persons Problem Solving: The Assistant Rector is expected to be an integral part of the staff team and participate in work that supports the development of inclusive and safe communities Providing student support, responding to facility concerns, and completing necessary paperwork are some of the ways the Assistant Rector supports the Conway Hall team SALARY & BENEFITS The Assistant Rector contract is a year fixed term contract, with the option to renew We are pleased to offer a competitive salary in addition to providing accommodation The range is £15,000 - £16,500 depending upon experience Benefits also include a generous 10% of salary pension contribution SUBMISSION PROCESS Please email your CV and a covering letter describing why you think you could excel in this job to: Judy Hutchinson: jhutchinson@nd.edu Timeline: The closing date for submissions is noon on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 ... paperwork as required by the Rector and the Director of Student Affairs, including learning and using the University of Notre Dame Maxient System through the Office of Community Standards, which... arise The Assistant Rector agrees to be certified in First Aid/CPR Notre Dame will cover any expenses associated with the cost of this training Administrative tasks: The Assistant Rector is required...
