and Support Unicon’s Liferay Portal Implementation Services Unicon's best practice based implementation services include a set of standard activities that are essential to a successful portal deployment These services are designed to expedite the launch of the Liferay application and help your institution develop an overall plan to achieve your ultimate objectives The key aspects of these services are highlighted below: 3.1 Project Management Unicon will assign an experienced Project Manager to coordinate the portal project and deployment at the University of Washington This person will be your institution’s primary point-of-contact for all project-related communication throughout the project’s duration Unicon’s project management process provides for consistent reporting to all of the stakeholders in the project and facilitates the coordination of all resources 3.2 Implementation Planning Service The Implementation Planning Service (IPS) centers around an on-site facilitated session, designed to assist your institution in strategic and tactical planning for your Liferay Portal implementation The session focuses on goal setting, team and organizational alignment, as well as planning for the implementation activities Throughout the session the Facilitator will provide advice and leverage previous portal project experience to educate and prepare the University of Washington for the work that is involved This session will set the foundation for the implementation and will assist your institution in creating a sound and realistic implementation project plan As a follow-up to the session, the Unicon Project Manager will coordinate with the appropriate Unicon technical resources to research and estimate any system customizations identified during the IPS and deliver a work estimate to our University of Washington contacts Type: Facilitated by Unicon Project Manager Onsite/Remote: On-site Length: days Max Attendees: None (recommended not to exceed 15) Deliverables: - IPS Report - Draft work plan - Reference materials - Templates - Completed worksheets - Work estimates/proposals for customizations and/or integrations University of Washington Portal Services and Support 3.3 Portal Installation and Configuration An experienced Unicon System Administrator with will install and configure the Liferay Portal in the University of Washington environment This service consists of the following tasks:     Installation of the Liferay Enterprise Edition software on suitable hardware/system software platform(s); installation to be performed for one client environment Configuration of authentication against one authentication source Configuration of one database management system (DB must be installed by the Client) Completion of functional baseline testing prior to hand-off of the environment The University of Washington has expressed a desire to deploy three non-production Liferay environments Unicon can perform these installations if desired by the University of Washington The cost for this activity is listed as an additional cost in the Cost Analysis section of this proposal Note: Hardware and system software platform(s), as well as authentication source, must be verified as suitable by Unicon prior to the installation of the software 3.4 Liferay Branding Unicon’s experienced UE consultants will transform the “default portal look into a personalized environment that represents your institution This process includes an analysis of the current institutional brand, along with surveys to determine the messages to be conveyed through the portal Unicon will modify the visual features - like color, font, graphics, and styling - to create a tailored skin for the portal environment Based on portal’s standard template, the institutional “Portal Skin” will be an integrated presentation of your institution’s brand This service consists of the following tasks, performed by a Unicon User Experience (UE) Specialist:     First-round mockup of the initial design One design iteration with the Client Development of the final skin Installation of the final skin by a Unicon System Administrator Unicon will target and test with the following browsers as part of the branding process: Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7/8, and Safari Additional browsers and versions can also be included at an additional fee These fees will be identified in advance and are subject to approval by the University of Washington project manager University of Washington Portal Services and Support Unicon’s Custom Development Services Unicon provides consulting services to develop customized solutions for our client’s portal deployments Customizations may include development of portlets, or integration with specific systems in use on campus Unicon will attempt to identify any existing open source option to custom development and work with your institution to estimate any requirements once defined Our clients engage Unicon in custom development projects during the implementation process and any time there after 4.1 Portlet Development A need may exist to perform custom development to implement functionality or a capability that is not currently met by an existing portlet Unicon can work with your institution to design and develop JSR-168 compliant portlet(s) to satisfy any need 4.2 Portlet Installation and Configuration Unicon can deploy portlets other than those that exist within the Liferay Portal For instance, these can be portlets developed within other open source communities such as Jasig This could also include portlets Unicon developed specifically for your institution 4.3 Integration Unicon can coordinate with your institution to determine the best approach for integrating other applications with Liferay Unicon has been very successful at mentoring its clients on how to use and integrate other applications with an institutional portal University of Washington Portal Services and Support  Liferay Portal Training Liferay offers training courses onsite or at various locations throughout the world Liferay recommends their public training option if there are less than four participants for a given course The private option should be considered if there are five or more individuals attending a course as this might be a more cost effective option Private training provides an additional benefit in that it allows you to tailor the training curriculum to meet your institutional needs 5.1 Liferay Portal Administration Training Portal Administrators are responsible for managing the entire system including users, site content and security Participants will learn how to correctly assign users to Organizations and Communities, restrict access to content using Roles and
