FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Stacy P Sherman Marketing Specialist Ph: (262) 472-5705 Fx: (262) 472-4400 Email: ShermanS@uww.edu Date: September 12, 2014 Young Auditorium Welcomes New Development Coordinator to Arts Management Team WHITEWATER – Young Auditorium welcomes new Development Coordinator, Shawn A Werner, to the arts management team Werner is a UW-Madison-School of Music graduate and an accomplished pianist He has assisted several non-profit organizations with their fundraising, grant writing, and presenting efforts As Development Coordinator, Werner will be responsible for all of Young Auditorium’s development efforts, including membership management, corporate sponsorships, securing major grants and planned giving campaigns In addition to his role with the Young Auditorium, Werner serves as a piano accompanist for the School of Madison Ballet, working to help students improve their ability to dance along with live music He is also the Director of Music at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fort Atkinson Prior to those experiences, Werner successfully completed an internship with the prestigious Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, where he was able to contribute to a strong team of individuals there, most notably during the 2012 installation and exhibit of the “The Clock” by the world-renowned artist, Christian Marclay “The Clock” is an award-winning cinematic “tour de force” that unfolds on the screen in real time through thousands of film excerpts that form a 24-hour montage, appropriated from the last 100 years of cinema’s rich history A Colorado native but now adopted loyal Wisconsinite, Werner also spent a considerable amount of dedicated time and energy working with the Wisconsin Union Theater in Madison, working closely with the development, programming, marketing, and cultural arts professionals there His leadership -moreabilities shone as he demonstrated his his abilities to manage staff and help implement programming Werner is very pleased to be able to share his talents with Young Auditorium and was drawn to the Whitewater area He states, “Whitewater is a unique town because it is a rural community surrounded by other rural communities, yet it boasts a venue that presents the performing arts The arts shouldn’t be reserved for the large or coastal cities like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles; art belongs to everyone And being a person who prefers small towns to large cities, I feel fortunate to get to live in one that champions the performing arts That reality is almost a rarity, it seems.” Werner has already established some long term goals for his role at the auditorium as well He adds, “I would like to continually support and visit many local businesses in the area I would also like to represent Young Auditorium when volunteering and participating in community events I like to be involved and connected to my community.” Werner’s skillset and what he could contribute to the Young Auditorium team did not go unnoticed in the national search that was conducted earlier this summer Young Auditorium Director, Ken Kohberger, says of Werner, “I am very pleased and excited to have Shawn on board He has a true love for the arts and he is genuinely interested in developing the support for the auditorium.” The Young Auditorium serves as a presenting organization for the performing arts and as an educational and cultural center enriching the lives of regional communities, offering a full season of world-class performing arts presentations The theater is a state-of-the-art venue, with 1,300 seats and a 400 square foot stage that hosts dozens of Broadway touring productions, national and international music acts, world-renowned dance troupes, family-friendly events, classical touring theatre companies, and several University of Wisconsin-Whitewater events each year In addition to the main theater, the Young Auditorium also houses the Fern Young Terrace and Kachel Center, where special events and celebrations are never in short supply To learn more, visit www.uww.edu/YoungAuditorium or follow us at www.Facebook.com/Young.Aud PHOTO CAPTION: Shawn A Werner, Development Coordinator Young Auditorium ### ... visit www.uww.edu/YoungAuditorium or follow us at www.Facebook.com /Young.
