Welcome to Navitas at UMass Boston, your direct pathway to the University
of Massachusetts Boston. The Navitas Group is an internationally recognized
education provider with the knowledge and resources of staff in more than
50 different colleges and campuses worldwide.
Navitas offers university-level programs that will prepare you for a smooth
transition to your degree at UMass Boston. Navitas pathway programs,
which attract students from over 50 countries, are designed and taught
by university instructors, enabling you to meet the demands of higher
education in the United States.
We provide a dynamic and supportive environment, with smaller class sizes and
additional contact hours to those typically offered at university. This teaching

I am pleased to welcome Navitas students to
the Universityof Massachusetts Boston, the
public research university located in one of
the most renowned university cities in the
world. We pride ourselves on the diversity
of our students, faculty and staff, and the
rich educational environment that is fostered
by this mix.
The university enrolls more than 15,000
students in over 150 undergraduate and
graduate programs in liberal arts, science,
management, nursing, education, public
service, and policy studies. With a focus
on interdisciplinary research and the global
environment, the university also gives students

Boston: Welcome to Bean Town
A forward-looking town with an eye on the past,
Boston combines the charm of a New England
harbor town with the conveniences and mindset
of a bustling, modern metropolis.
Each year, Boston attracts over 18
million visitors from around the world.
This vibrant, thriving city is renowned
for its cultural facilities, world-class
educational institutions, champion
sports franchises, and its place at the
very forefront of American history. Tourism
is one of the New England region’s largest
industries, and, as the region’s social and
commercial hub, Boston has a great deal
to offer. It is also the destination of choice

It is also the home of the renowned
professional basketball team (the Boston

Boston’s seasons
Boston experiences four distinct seasons.
It has warm summers with average
temperature of 77°F (25°C), and moderately
cold winters with an average temperature
of 32°F (0°C).
Spring, summer and early fall are the
most temperate seasons. Freezing
temperatures can be common from
late October until the end of March.
Things to see and do
In Boston, it can take as little as half
an hour to escape metropolitan life
and enjoy a range of outdoor activities —
from kayaking, water rafting, sailing, skiing,
snowboarding and skydiving to hiking,
rock climbing, horse riding, biking and
whale watching.
You can also visit our world-class
museums, exhibitions, performances,
sporting events, and festivals. Boston is
a wonderful blend of stylish sophistication
and historic New England charm, allowing
you to uncover the city’s past while
enjoying its distinctively modern edge.

UMass Boston
UMass Boston is located on Columbia Point Peninsula,
close to the downtown area of the exciting and
cosmopolitan city of Boston. The campus shares a
picturesque peninsula with the John F Kennedy Presidential
Library and Museum, and offers exquisite views of the city
and Boston Harbor.
UMass Boston is a land-grant research
university offering students a high-quality
education that is also affordable and
accessible. Research and public-service
programs aim to advance knowledge and

UMass Boston offers 46+ undergraduate
degrees and many undergraduate certificate
programs, 62 master’s degrees and graduate

six discipline-based colleges, the John W
McCormack Graduate School of Policy
and Global Studies, and University College

UMass Boston: the Navitas advantage
Navitas USA offers a University Pathway Program (UPP) at
UMass Boston. By choosing this program, you will gain the
knowledge and skills to be able to successfully complete a
degree in the United States. From the day you enroll in this
program, you will be a UMass Boston student.
The UPP consists of for-credit and other
non-credit support courses, and provides an
academic and cultural bridge from your high
school experience to studying for a university
degree in the United States. Upon successful
completion of these courses, you will receive
credit towards your UMass Boston degree.
Be a UMass Boston student
from day one!
Navitas at UMass Boston students are
UMass Boston students. By being a student
of the university from day one, you will:
• receive 30 credits (up to 10 course
modules) and Year 2 standing after
completion of the University Pathway
Program (UPP)
• receive your official letter of offer and
visa sponsorship (I-20) directly from
UMass Boston
• receive a packaged English + Academic
visa that lasts for the entire duration of
study (up to five years)
• not need to re-apply to the university or
transfer your visa when you enter Year 2
• be eligible to work off-campus for
academic credit (CPT)
• be eligible to work full time up to
one year in the United States after
completion of studies (OPT)
• get personalized attention from
professors in small classes of fewer
than 25 students

Your pathway to UMass Boston
The Navitas at UMass Boston UPP offers an alternative
pathway to UMass Boston for international students who
may not qualify for direct entry to a UMass undergraduate
degree and who seek a supportive study environment.
The UPP is equivalent to the first year of a UMass Boston
bachelor’s degree program. Courses within the UPP are
predominantly UMass Boston first-year degree courses,
and are taught by UMass Boston instructors.
Upon successful completion of the UPP
you will receive full credit towards selected
undergraduate degree programs. This credit is
applied to your degree, allowing you to move
directly into the second year of your chosen
degree program.
