- BARCODE READER There are two types of barcode readers that may be fitted to the machine: • Remote Barcode Reader • Handheld Barcode Reader 1D or one dimensional barcodes are the most common barcodes consisting of a single row of different width bars Example of a 1D Barcode 2D or two dimensional barcodes consist of square modules constructed in a matrix that may be square or rectangular Example of a 2D Barcode NOTE There are many different formats of barcodes: Data matrix, Aztec, QR, PDF 417 In the graphics above, these are single examples to demonstrate the difference between 1D and 2D barcodes 29.2 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Nov 11 BARCODE READER AND VERIFICATION AND TRACEABILITY OVERVIEW - BARCODE READER Remote Barcode Reader The remote barcode reader is located on the input conveyor to the printer and reads the barcode of the incoming product It also provides information to the Verification and Traceability software option Barcode Reader Mounting Stand Reader Configuration Code Card Scan Cross-Hair fault : Se t to De Functi onality Config uratio nC ode Trigger Sensor Figure 29-1 Remote Barcode Reader Hardware The system comprises a mounting stand, the reader, a suitable barcode on the product (not shown), an in-line trigger sensor and a set of configuration cards The stand is mounted onto a customer’s input conveyor The configuration cards are used to aid the barcode reader set up and calibration The sensor is attached forward of the reader using a Velcro fastener During the board/product transfer cycle, with the remote barcode option enabled, the trigger sensor detects the board on the conveyor; it triggers the remote barcode reader to read the barcode, before the board is passed into the printer Handheld Barcode Reader The primary function of the handheld barcode reader is to scan consumables and user information for the Verification and Traceability software The consumables scanned include: • Screen • Print Material • Solvent • Cleaner Paper The handheld barcode reader may also be used to scan the first board of a batch that is to be checked by the remote barcode reader during a print run Different types of handheld barcode readers may be used, however, DEK currently only supply one option Chapter Issue Nov 11 Technical Reference Manual 29.3 BARCODE READER AND VERIFICATION AND TRACEABILITY OVERVIEW - VERIFICATION AND TRACEABILITY OVERVIEW - VERIFICATION AND TRACEABILITY Introduction Verification and traceability is a software tool that validates (verification) certain items before printing and records data (traceability) to a file Purpose Verification ensures that the product and the consumable items used in the print process match the information stored in the product file At the end of each print cycle, verification information is written to the traceability file This information may be used to trace particular batches of a product run and identify all the consumables used for that batch Operation At the beginning of a product run, the operator is required to verify the consumables fitted to the machine This is achieved by either scanning the barcode using the handheld barcode reader or entering the identity information using the keyboard During the print run, the product is automatically scanned by the remote barcode reader located on the input conveyor; the data scanned in, is stored for traceability with the print data Each board is checked against the information stored in the product file When a consumable item is replaced on the machine, the operator is requested to verify the item by entering the identity of the item This is checked against the information stored in the product file before the print cycle can continue Reference 29.4 For further details refer to
