Recommended Resources Taking Online Surveys With all the easy ways to make money online, taking paid surveys is among the easiest. In fact, even a 10-year-old can do it. You’ll find many companies online offering to pay you money or gift certificates for taking surveys. The payment can range from $1 to $10 or even more for surveys which take longer to finish or in some cases, a product is given as payment for a survey. Taking online surveys is a good way to earn extra cash while also trying new products. But don’t expect to make a living out of doing this. This is only a way to earn some extra cash for bills or grocery. It might even take you a while before you can earn a decent amount. While I am not discounting the fact that you can make extra money answering surveys, the following list will show you the other end of the spectrum. Since you’re determined at earning some money, better be familiar with these so that the next time you sign up on a survey site, you know what to do. 1. When joining a survey site, you provide your personal and demographic information. Personal information such as name, contact number and address are usually the ones that survey sites will ask. If you don’t provide them, the site won’t allow you to proceed with your signing up, as this information is crucial for it to determine which surveys to send to you. Make sure you are joining a legitimate survey site. You can rest assured that it won’t disclose your information to other parties. If you are not comfortable about giving out your name and other important details, then taking online surveys might not be for you. There is a risk in this kind of job, so if you’re willing to join, make sure you understand this. Better read the Privacy Policy to make sure that the site is legitimate. If the site has no prominent Privacy Policy link, then ignore it and look for another survey site. 2. There are scammers out there. This is probably more important than anything. You’re here to make money, so it’s not right that those who promise to pay you for a job are the ones who ask for money before giving you the promised job. More often than not, those who ask for any fees up front are scams. They just want to take your money. So make sure that a survey join you want to join is free and does not ask for membership fee or other recurring fees. Scammers are getting clever these days, so don’t be fooled. The job or the site may appear legitimate, with all the photos and testimonials of others who supposedly got paid for doing the job. They may even promise you a 100% money-back guarantee. Don’t fall for that. Even with this guarantee, the scammer may still run with your money, and you have nothing, not even the real name of the person behind that scam website. Also, don’t join survey sites that require your credit card number. If a site does, you should be suspicious. 3. The survey site pulls your earnings for some reason. Now, a lot of people would not be reading Terms of Use willingly. Who wants to read long and boring Terms of Use anyway? But this is very important, as you’ll find the terms and conditions by which you must work to earn. Why I am saying is that some survey sites give you surveys, but when you have reached the payout terms, they will pull your earnings. This is unjust, and when you try to contact the site for clarifications, they don’t get to you right away. You’re lucky if you get a reply. And then you will be told that you did not sign in as often as they required or that you were using a fraudulent account. At some point, some survey sites will tell you that you did not complete the surveys according to their terms. They’ll probably tell you all the reasons just so they won’t be obligated to send you the money you rightfully earned. So before signing up, read the site’s Terms of Use first, even if it’s a long one. 4. If the survey sites seem legitimate, review their payment system. The last thing you want is not be able to get the money you worked for. If you choose to use PayPal to get the payment, better contact the PayPal management to determine whether the survey site is following the PayPal’s Terms of Service. Also, make sure that PayPal is aware that the survey site uses it as a payment option. 5. The survey site may trick people by posting positive reviews about the site. Chances are there are people out there who have already tried joining a certain survey site and have written a review. Search Google or other search engines for any review of a survey site to see whether it is legitimate or not. You can also search for a forum or forums dedicated to working-from-home jobs or to taking surveys online. You will meet people there who can recommend legitimate survey sites and give you a list of sites to avoid. But beware, though. As I’ve mentioned previously, scammers are getting clever. Owners of survey sites could be posting positive reviews for their sites to trick people into joining them. Or they may pay some people to say good things about the site. Either way, be very careful. 6. There are survey sites that claim you can earn thousands of dollars a month. It’s not true that you can earn thousands of dollars taking online surveys in just a month for a lot of reasons. First, it takes time before a survey site can match a survey taker to a company’s specifications. Second, for survey sites that offer points that can be redeemed for cash later, a single survey may be worth a few points, meaning you have to answer a lot of surveys to earn a considerably big amount. And that would take time. Third, for sites that offer cash, the surveys may not arrive as often as you’d like. Sometimes you can only take 3 surveys or so in a day, and there are days when there aren’t surveys to take. Fourth, you will not always be eligible to take all surveys. At best, you can also earn a few dollars, or maybe a few hundred in a month.
