This book touches on how to help you get started with paper craft You will discover how to make the basic things like paper flowers, gift basket, and scrapbook and lots more I assure you that you will learn a lot from reading this book and also have fun Each chapter in this book gives you simple steps in making whatever project you decide to work on You also have tips to guide you Whether you are new to paper craft or you love paper craft, you are in the right place Paper craft is a captivating hobby After reading this book, you will have mastered some basic skill and you can start creating beautiful paper crafts This is a simple hobby that does not require that many tools It just needs a pair of scissors, papers, and glue Chapter 1-PAPER FLOWERS Paper Flower is easy to make and it is affordable It also looks amazing when it is completed You can use for weddings, house warming gift, parties etc ROSE PAPER FLOWER To make this you will need a few things which are glue, scissors and glue You can decide to add floral tape or stem wire Stem wire can be made out of anything around your house or by rolling paper Cut out a petal and crumple it This makes the paper more easy and pliable to work with Shape the petal into the form of a center bloom Add a little glue to the bottom of the petal to help hold the shape you want Continue cutting petals and adding it to the center bloom Keep adding petals to create a flower that is as big and open or small and budded as you like To create the outer petals, Pinch a little fold at the bottom of the paper to create a curved petal Add as many as you want Now it is time to insert the stem, add a little glue to the stem, wire or whatever you want to use as your base Then insert it into the center bottom of the flower To add creative touches to the flower, you can use floral tape and colored scrapbook paper to add leaves and make it into bunches You can apply paint to the stem to make it look realist CREPE PAPER FLOWERS First take a length of crepe paper streamer and fan-fold into eight layers Cut out a double humped shape to make the petals (you will have eight of them) They do not have to be perfectly even Take out a small button and put a thin layer of glue on it and then add glitter to it Then take out a small rhinestone and put it in the middle for added bling The best way to add glitter on the edges is to pour a little glue and a little glitter onto a piece of card stock Then fold the petal and gently dab both edges in the glue and then in the glitter Then you leave it to dry after unfolding it When the edges of the petal are dry, scrunch up the bottom and glue it to the outer edge of the card stock circle Do the same with the second petal but glue it to the opposite side Repeat the same process with two more petals To do the second layer of petals, glue it a little closer to the center and make sure they cover the first Repeat the same process with the last wo petals Then glue the glittered button to the center And you are done! paper or light card stock Invest in good quality papers If you want your models to look good, last or go easily together then do not use cheap papers CHAPTER 4 - TOOLS FOR PAPER CRAFT There are various tools used for paper craft but we are just going to talk about the essential ones And they are: Cutting mat Metal ruler Pencil Scalpel Blades Tracing Paper Backing material A cutting mat: A cutting mat is important to protect your table It is best to get the largest one you can so you have plenty of working space Cutting a paper on a small cutting mat can be very uncomfortable 2.A metal ruler : Plastic rulers are great for measuring and drawing, but it is good when used to cut alongside a scalpel A metal ruler ensures you can cut a nice straight line 3.A pencil : A pencil can come in handy when you want to draw your design first before cutting it Some people cut the design without drawing it first 4.A scalpel : There are many different scalpels on the market If you are going to be doing detailed cuts, then you want something that feels comfortable in your hand for long periods of time A rounded handle with a nice soft grip can be good 5.Blades : Any scalpel blade can be used to create a paper cut The ideal blade is strong, with a fine point, and has just the right amount of flexibility for negotiating curves 6.Paper : is used to get your design onto the back of the paper you are going to cut out If you do not have tracing paper at hand, baking parchment can be used but it is not easy to work with You will need plenty of rough paper for creating your designs, and then of course some special paper for your final cut The type of paper you use for your final cut depends on the result you require To create a flat piece to be framed, you could use something as simple as copier paper If you want to show off your cut’s three dimensions then something sturdier is preferable Watercolour paper is great because it is easy to cut but it is also strong enough to stand up in a box frame 7.Backing material: If you plan to frame your paper cut design, it is important to consider what is going behind it The obvious choice is a sheet of contrasting coloured paper, but you could also use fabric, newsprint or pages from an old book You are only limited by your imagination (and what fits in the frame, of course BASIC PAPER CRAFTING TECHNIQUES Transferring Your Design The first technique in paper cutting involves creating a mirror image of your design so you can work from the back-side of your paper Cutting from behind gives your paper cut a clean, crisp look and helps to disguise any imperfections Also, if you draw and cut your design on the front of the paper, it is almost impossible to rub out the lines without damaging the delicate paper cut 1.Use pencil to draw your design and be sure to use bold, thick lines 2.Place your tracing paper face-down on the reverse side of your cutting paper Use a little masking tape to hold it in place Firmly scribble over all the lines of your design with a pencil 3.Remove the tracing paper and reveal your design You may wish to go over some of the lines with your pencil to make them clearer You now have a mirror image of your design on the reverse of your cutting paper It will be the right way round when viewed from the front Cutting a Straight Line Work on the mirror image you have created of your design For straight lines it is best to use your metal ruler Cutting Curved Lines 1.For curved lines it is best to move the paper around, rather than your scalpel 2.Here you can see how to use the reversed design to guide your cutting Cut as close as you can to either side of your pencil line, just leaving the width of the pencil mark - which in this case is roughly 2mm - behind CUTTING, SCORING AND FOLDING If you are learning how to paper craft, the basic techniques - cutting, scoring and folding, are probably the first you will need to acquire You can start paper craft using paper, card, pencil, ruler and scissors These tools enable you to measure, mark and cut your paper or cards As your paper crafting skill progresses, you may want to get a craft knife, cutting mat, a metal ruler and a bone folder A bone folder is a good substitute with a round edge knife for scoring and the back of a spoon to define a fold You can use either a plastic or glass cutting mat A plastic mat gets cuts on its surface unlike a glass mat and it can be used for other techniques like ink blending But a plastic mat provides more grips for cutting Cutting To cut, place your card and paper on the cutting mat and use the measuring guidelines on the mat to cut the card size You can also measure with a ruler and use a pencil to lightly mark the cutting lines Then hold your ruler firmly on the card on the cutting mat and cut along the edge of the ruler with a craft knife It is better to use a steel edge ruler for this than a plastic one Scoring and folding Folding a piece of plain thin card can be done easily by matching the edges and corners of the card to fold and making the crease with your fingers But when using a thicker card with coating on it, it is better to score and then fold the card to prevent creasing and cracks on the fold Place the card on a solid surface and use a pencil to lightly mark where you want to fold or use the cutting mat guidelines Firmly hold your ruler a little to the side of the fold line so that when you score it will be on the fold line Use the bone folder to press into the card Then move the tool steadily and firmly along the ruler Use your finger to make the crease after folding the card over Using a bone folder to rub along the crease can give your fold a defined look As you progress in paper crafting, you will discover that using scoring board is much easier when you want to score There are different types of scoring board but they all perform the same act that allows you to place your card and use a bone folder or other tool to score the line If you come across the term mountain or valley fold while doing any paper craft project do not panic if you do not know what it means Mountain fold means that the paper sticks up with the fold at the top and valley fold means the paper dips inwards with the fold at the bottom After mastering these steps you can go on to try out other techniques in paper crafts Chapter 5 - MAKING CARDS Card making is a great way to start paper craft This is also a very useful part of paper craft because we receive cards for so many things like Christmas, birthdays, thanks, good wishes, valentine, anniversaries, and good luck and the list goes on Some popular techniques used in card making are matting and layering, decoupage, pyramage, stamping and coloring, heat embossing, using punches, die cutting, spraying and blending inks, using stencils etc Card making is a small project that you can use to start paper craft and if you do not get it the first time it is okay because you do not need too many materials when making a card But who knows you might end up making a really cool card Making a card is really simple you take a piece of card, score and fold it, then add an image to the front and a greeting inside There are lots of advantages that go with making your own card and they are: You save money: a large good quality card can be very expensive to buy But if you have all the right materials you can make more than one instead of buying the expensive version Personalization you are given the opportunity to make the card how you think the person you want to give will like it You can create the card thinking about their hobbies, interest and lifestyle The person will appreciate the card even more because you took your time to make the card The card you make will be unique and it is also fun to do MAKING A DECORATIVE CARD To make this, you will need the following: White letter-size (A4) card stock Decorative paper Glue Scissors Pencil Ruler or paper trimmer White computer paper for envelopes Optional supplies: Colored cardstock, paper punches, rubber stamps, colored pencils Step 1 : Card Blanks and Envelopes: Using a white, letter size (A4) paper or card stock is one of the most economical ways A 250-sheet ream of 8½” by 11” white cardstock makes 500 cards, and a 500-sheet ream of white 20# paper makes 500 envelopes That works out to a few pennies for a card and envelope Step 2 : Select and Prepare Decorative Paper: Select one decorative paper or two papers.Make sure one of the papers is light and the other is dark of the same color, or one plain and one patterned of the same color Step 3 : Make Second Cut: Stack the two rectangles and, while holding them firmly together, cut horizontally about 1/3 from the top The cut can be straight, V-shaped or curved, make sure the beginning and ending of the cut must be the same distance from the top Step 4 : Arrange Cut Pieces: Arrange the four cut pieces on the card to your liking To make cards like the examples, separate the patches with equal spacing both horizontally and vertically, and, when using two different papers, swap the tops or bottoms Step 5: Make a Medallion Embellishment: Create a medallion for the card center Cut about 1inch to 1½inch square of cardstock, or punch a 1inch circle Decorate with a rubberstamp or with punched paper Step 6 : Glue the medallion to the center of the card For an added touch, stick the embellishment on the card using double-side foam tape This will give it a 3D look A piece of corrugated cardboard can be used in place of the foam tape just cut it to size, glue it to the back of the embellishment, then glue it to the card MAKING A GREETING CARD You will need the following A greeting card A cardboard or thick plastic sheet A craft knife A mold and deckle A vat of paper pulp A flat surface Damp cloth Two flat picture frames A screen Sizing solution Start by creating a stencil Unfold a greeting card and trace the shape on a piece of cardboard or thick plastic that is the same size as your mold and deckle Use your craft knife to cut out the shape to create an envelope stencil Dip the stencil in a vat of pulp Place the cardboard stencil between your mold and deckle Put the mold and deckles with the stencil crammed in between into the paper pulp and draw them near you Raise the stencil from the vat Raise the mold, deckle, and stencil to the surface in one continuous motion Then remove them from the pulp Allow the water to drain Shake the mold and deckle from side to side Remove the card from the stencil Remove the deckle and transfer the layer of pulp inside the stencil to a flat surface covered by a damp cloth by placing the mold upside down on the surface, tapping on the screen, and then raising the mold up Let the paper dry If you plan to write on the card, make sure you coat it first with a sizing solution made by boiling ½ teaspoon of gelatin in 1 cup of water Fold the card Fold the card, put it in an envelope, and send it to someone you care about CONCLUSION Now you know some things about paper crafts like how to make flowers, scrapbook, treat basket
