Graduation Thesis INTRODUCTION Rationale of the study Nowadays, English tends to become the most commonly used language worldwide Fields such as construction, healthcare, finance, tourism,etc are all presented in both Vietnamese and other languages Especially, in the period of economic integration, translation plays an essential role in business and cultural exchange Firstly, it helps people to understand more about other cultural values Secondly, it also helps the country keep up with global standards in the process of diplomatic relations, economic cooperation and other fields Vietnam Economic Review is the economic science journal It publishes the research results of scientists inside and outside the Institute on world economic issues and international economic relations, world political issues, international economic integration and reform of Vietnam The magazine is also a place that regularly provides new information and documents on the situation and adjustment of socio-economic policies of countries around the world, and Vietnam's foreign economic policy and system This helps readers at home and abroad to have accurate and reliable information Therefore, the translation quality of economic articles plays an important role in the reputation of the newsroom in particular and of Vietnam in general Aim of the study The study aims at analyzing the current status of translation of business magazines at VietNam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of social sciences Then, it points out some advantages and disadvantages in the translation process of business magazines from which a number of ways are recommended to improve efficiency of translation of these magazines or researches in the future Scope of the study The study is performed at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Floor 12A, Building B, No Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Đỗ Quỳnh Anh-CQ55/51.05 Academy Of Finance Graduation Thesis Hanoi, Vietnam The study is based on the data provided by Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the object is the translation of business magazines or researches at the Journal Methodology of the study Based on knowledge at university, books, documents, magazines, researches of Vietnam Economic Review and these above aims, some methods are applied to fulfill this thesis as follows: ❖ Figure collection: from the Internet, Vietnam Economic Review website, internal documents and reports ❖ Figure comparison, data evaluation and judgement ❖ Methods of analyzing, comparing and summarizing materials, statistics and information provided by Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Organization of the study The thesis includes main chapters as follows: Chapter – Literature Review: This chapter provides general information about linguistics and translation theories in specific criteria Chapter – Translation of business magazines at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences : It is the main part of the thesis consisting of an overview of Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the current situation of translation of business magazines at the Journal as well as advantages and disadvantages in the translation of these magazines or researches Chapter – Ways to improve efficiency of translation of business magazines at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences: The final chapter points out orientations and objectives of translation of business magazines at Vietnam department will print the soft copy of the next issue and send it directly to the deputy editor for one final correction before proceeding to print and publish the issue next The deputy editor will conduct a full check again and correct any remaining errors After that, this issue will be sent to the vice president for publication confirmation and transferred to the publishing house This is a disadvantages in translation process at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences 2.3.1 Advantages in translation process at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences 2.3.1.1 The high quality of source texts As mentioned above, the articles or research papers selected for publication in the journal are always carefully reviewed and checked Therefore, the selected sentences in the source text are carefully selected In addition, these source text always have clear and accurate content about specialized knowledge In case translators have problems when translating, they can contact the author to understand the content of the text This is an extremely valuable advantage in the translation process In the translation process, a good target document is the one that can most reveal the meaning of the original text Therefore, being able to communicate with the author is an important advantage for the translator to perfect the when it is impossible to find the exact author of the source text, which makes the translator having trouble understanding the content of the source text that cannot be accurately falsified This will prevent the target text from representing the author's intentions Furthermore, the clear and precise source text will also make the target text easy to understand 2.3.1.2 The rigor and carefulness of the inspection process Some of the publications that are published will have to go through a lot of testing Firstly, the source text sent to the translator will be translated into the target text by the translators In this process, the target text will be carefully checked by the translator for errors such as spelling errors, grammatical errors, word errors, and content errors Subsequently, these target texts will be sent to the editorial board for further examination in both traditional and modern ways Thus, the target text was checked three times Thirdly, the target text will be presented with presentation editing and will be arranged in the correct position that was previously prepared Immediately thereafter, this edited journal will be sent to the deputy editor for further examination in advance After four checks, all of these target texts will be sent back to the deputy dean in charge for review If all is correct, the vice president will sign the confirmation for the issue to be published in the coming period This final revision will be sent to the publisher for publication and internal circulation 2.3.1.3 The environment Journal of World Political and Economic Issues is a specialized magazine, so the working environment here is very professional The brothers and sisters who are active here are those with extensive knowledge of many disciplines Moreover, the brothers and sisters are all very friendly In the translation process, I sometimes encounter some problems, everyone is very enthusiastic In addition, the library here possesses a huge amount of professional and the attitude to work accurately to help us achieve high efficiency at work More specifically, here we are also exposed to many different languages, so the learning opportunities are huge Moreover, we always use English in the working environment here, which will help our language to develop and improve For example, every day we need to translate specialized articles, our specialized vocabulary will be improved Continued use of specialized vocabulary will also help us remember it for longer In short, this is a very valuable practice environment After my internship here, I feel that I have grown, my English also became much more perfect 2.3.2 Disadvantages in translation process at Vietnam Economic Review under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences 2.3.2.1 Highly requirements for target text The Journal of World Economic and Political Issues is the economic science magazine, which publishes the research results of scientists inside and outside the Institute on world economic issues and international economic relations economic, world political issues, reform and international economic integration of Vietnam The magazine is also a place that regularly provides new information and documents on the situation and adjustment of socio-economic policies of countries around the world, relations and foreign economic policies of Vietnam Đỗ Quỳnh Anh-CQ55/51.05 39 Academy Of Finance Graduation Thesis The articles published here will be posted on the website of the Institute of World Economy and Politics of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences so that friends from other countries can refer to and understand more about the situation of Vietnam Therefore, articles selected for publication must go through a rigorous testing process This process has a lot of steps and they are all very time consuming Moreover, these processes will also put pressure on all employees in the magazine because the number of articles needing editing and checking is very large The magazine has 12 English and 12 Vietnamese issues Every month, the magazine will publish a new issue The selection time for articles to be published in the next period will last for a week Next, the average time that translators translate an article or study for an issue of the journal is about a week away After that, the editorial board edited and re-edited the target document for another week The examination process of the deputy editor and deputy director takes about days It can be said that the time for a number of journals to be prepared for printing and publishing is very short In addition, the amount of work in the months will be the same, so the job at the magazine is always very busy to fulfill the set targets Furthermore, the number of articles submitted to the journal is so large that sometimes the screening and selection process of the editorial board can be delayed This results in slower processes behind, and more work to be done In addition, due to the nature of the work, the deputy editor and vice-president are sometimes busy This causes jobs to be delayed To sum up, since this is a specialized magazine that is posted for the vocabulary, so a translator with specialized knowledge in the field to be translated is the best choice Ordinary vocabulary is not sufficient to fully and professionally translate specialized texts The experience of a translator is not only book experience, field knowledge but also knowledge from life, experiences accumulated through family, school, and friends, accumulated each year The way of thinking, value orientation and aesthetic orientation of the translator also affects the translation in a certain way The interpreter's qualifications are inadequate or lack background understanding journal during the years of operation by readers and experts Vietnam Economic Review mentioned socio-economic policies, economic reforms in Vietnam, the situation of socio-economic development, international and regional economic integration of Vietnam With the aim of informing foreign readers about Vietnam's economy, the Vietnam Economic Review has shifted its focus from providing sector-specific economic situations to introducing economic policies results of the implementation of those policies, while it also introduces foreign readers to international and regional economic is to improve the quality of the translation including promoting the strengths and improving the weaknesses of the translation process 3.2 Solutions to solve problems of translation at the Journal 3.2.1 Reorganizing the systems and processes In the future, the Vietnam Economic Review wants to become an important and reputable information channel in the field of scientific research and related issues, as well as an information exchange research forum of scientists, economists and journalists Therefore, in order to reach this target, first of all, the Vietnam Economic Review needs to build a professional editorial apparatus The journal's current working process is still quite heavy and unprofessional For example, a research paper will go through a lot of complex processes such as translation, repair, approval, and repair, and there are very few people being responsible in each department Therefore, to be able to publish a research paper, the human resources apparatus will have in recent years, has been an important specialized magazine in the process of announcing the strong economic development of Vietnam The magazine always focuses on improving the translation quality of documents and research in the economic field Although the translation quality of these documents received quite a high appreciation from most managers and staff in the Magazine, there are still some weaknesses and limitations in the translation process It need to be fixed From the current situation at Vietnam Economic Review and the knowledge learned from university, I have done research on the
