Câu điều kiện loại 2 là cầu điều kiện khơng có thực ở hiện tại. Ta sử dụng câu điều kiện loại 2 để diễn tả điều không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai, chỉ là một giả thiết, một ước muốn trái ngược với thực trạng hiện tại.
