Trong quá trình dạy và học ngoại ngữ, đọc là một trong những kỹ năng cơ bản rất được chú trọng. Đọc vừa là mục đích vừa là phương tiện hữu hiệu và cần thiết nhằm giúp học sinh cĩ thể nắm vững, củng cố kiến thức ngơn ngữ, mở rộng vốn từ vựng cũng như hiểu sâu thêm văn phong, cách sử dụng ngơn ngữ mình đang học. Tuy nhiên, trên thực tế qua nhiều khảo sát cho thấy phần lớn học sinh trung học phổ thơng cảm thấy đọc là một kỹ năng khĩ. Các em thường đưa ra lý do là các em khơng cĩ đủ vốn từ vựng để làm bài. Vì thế, khi làm bài kiểm tra hay thi cử như thi học kỳ hoặc thi tốt nghiệp, các em học sinh thường khơng cảm thấy tự tin khi làm phần này. Thậm chí cĩ nhiều em tự nhận rằng các em chọn đáp án theo… cảm tính. Vì thế, vấn đề được đặt ra ở đây là người giáo viên cần hướng dẫn học sinh những cách làm bài nhằm giúp các em cĩ thể làm những bài đọc một cách hiệu quả. Trong phạm vi bài viết này, chúng tơi xin đề cập đến một số vấn đề cần lưu ý khi giải quyết 2 dạng bài đọc thường gặp trong các đề thi tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thơng là cloze test, và reading comprehension.
I. CLOZE TEST
Cĩ thể nĩi cloze test (bài tập trắc nghiệm điền từ vào chỗ trống) là dạng bài tập khĩ vì nĩ kiểm tra cả từ vựng lẫn ngữ pháp, đặc biệt là sự vận dụng kiến thức ngữ pháp và cụm từ và từ vựng trong ngữ cảnh của một đoạn văn để chọn đáp án chính xác. Ngồi ra, khi làm bài học sinh thường hay cĩ xu hướng dịch nghĩa của cả câu hay cả đoạn rồi mới chọn phương án đúng. Điều này dẫn đến việc các em càng gặp khĩ khăn hơn trong việc làm bài cloze-test vì thật ra khơng nhất thiết ta phải hiểu hết nghĩa của mọi từ vựng trong bài đọc thì mới cĩ thể làm được bài. Theo như quan sát các đề thi tốt nghiệp các năm từ 2008 đến 2012, phần cloze test chủ yếu tập trung vào nghĩa của từ,
từ loại, giới từ, cụm từ và một số cấu trúc ngữ pháp, cụ thể trong các phần trích dưới đây: Trích đề thi TN 2008, mã đề 124

WHY DO ANIMALS GO EXTINCT?

Qua theo dõi các bài cloze test trích trong đề thi tốt nghiệp các năm gần đây, chúng tơi thấy rằng nếu học sinh chú ý phân tích kỹ bài đọc và cĩ chiến lược làm bài thích hợp thì cloze test sẽ là một

phần khơng khĩ để lấy điểm. Vì thế, đối với dạng bài cloze test này chúng tơi xin đưa ra một số điều học sinh nên lưu ý khi làm bài cloze test:
Đọc lướt một lượt để hiểu nội dung của đoạn văn;
Đọc kĩ đoạn văn, đặc biệt chú ý đến những chỗ trống cần chọn từ điền vào những từ/ cụm từ trước và sau chỗ trống đĩ;
Đọc kĩ 4 phương án cần lựa chọn, xem xét chỗ cần điền liên quan đến từ vựng hay ngữ pháp;
Nếu chỗ cần điền liên quan đến từ vựng, hãy đọc kĩ cụm từ, câu hoặc đoạn văn đĩ, dựa vào ngữ cảnh để đưa ra sự lựa chọn hợp lí nhất;
Nếu chỗ cần điền liên quan đến ngữ pháp hoặc cấu trúc câu, xem xét lại các từ/ cụm từ trước hoặc sau chỗ trống đĩ (động từ, tính từ, giới từ, trạng từ chỉ thời gian...); đọc lại 4 phương án để tìm đáp án đúng nhất;
Làm lần lượt từ câu thứ nhất đến hết, nhưng cĩ thể bỏ qua những câu khĩ rồi quay lại sau. Trên đây là một số gợi ý để giúp các em học sinh cĩ thể cĩ cái nhìn khác hơn về dạng bài cloze test. Tuy nhiên điều quan trọng là các em phải cĩ được vốn từ vựng và ngữ pháp nhất định, biết phân tích cấu trúc bài và cĩ chiến thuật làm bài hợp lý thì cloze test khơng cịn là một phần “khĩ nuốt” trong bài thi nữa.
