(1)TOPIC1: YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED FOR A COURSE OF STUDY AT AN AMERICAN UNIVERSITY YOU ARE PREPARING FOR THE TRIP AND THE TIME YOU SPEND THERE.GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT YOUR PLAN There were very few people who’re successful in going to the university that they always dreamed of Luckily, I’m one of them, I’m glad to tell you now that I have successfully attended a course of study in America I’m preparing for a new study enviroment and the time I be there This is all my plan: In order to prepare for my trip Firstly, I’ll take a health-checkup As you know, health is the most important for abroad student especially for me cause I don't have any acquaintances in America Secondly, I need to improve my English skills to overcome language barriers and culture dissent Thirdly, I’ll get information about the university at which I’ll study, its surrounding and learn about American’s culture, maybe on the internet or my friends who have lived and studied there It may help me solve normal problems such as losing the ways or being stolen and I can avoid 'Culture shock' Moreover, I am going to prepare carefully my suitcase It contains my clothes, learning techniques and personal belongings They are necessary because at the beginning, I can’t find excactly place where I can buy them For the time I study in America, I think the most important thing is find a house/department to live It would be better if I live near my school with native people, they can help me deal with many prolems Make friends is also important The more friends I have, the more confident I’ll be when communicate with foreginers and study overseas Beside, I’ll try my best to get a scholarship to reduce my school-fee or find a part time job to earn money for daily life's demand However, the job won't consume too much time Last but not least, I’ll draw up a strict timetable to balance the working time, rest and studying time and learn how to spend money reasonably In conclusion, I’m very excited for my trip and that’s all things I will to make sure that I’ll have best time studying in America TOPIC2: SOME PEOPLE PREFER TO WORK FOR LARGE COMPANY OTHERS PREFER TO WORK FOR A SMALL COMPANY WHICH YOU WOULD PREFER? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE Many people like working in a large company while some others like working in a small company Each choice has its own advantages and disadvantages For me, I would like working in a big company for many of reasons follow: Firstly, Large company provides better working condition I can work with professional colleague so that my skills must be improved day by day Large company also creates open environment for everybody who want to learn and desire to grow For example, they always hold short course for training their staff to enhance working as well as life skills Moreover, they have lot of perks such as canteen with many delicious food, sport gyms, relax rooms,… Secondly, I think that a large company always offer good benefits which deserve staff ability The fact that a company is a large means it's having a considerable success In other words, this means that the company can give more salaries to its employees than a smaller one Beside, many kinds of insurances are purchased to ensure staff life The last one is, I love travelling around the world Large companies have an international reputation, as they organize international conferences, meetings which will give me the opportunity to travel in different countries and meet new people as well as learning new skills in my field In conclusion, for the reasons I mentioned above, i can certainly state that I would rather prefer working in a large company than in a small one Working in large company help me more mature, confident, I’ll have better salary and better opportunity also (2) TOPIC3: SHOULD PARENTS USE CORPORAL PUNISHMENT OR LOVING GUIDANCE IN EDUCATING THEIR CHILDREN? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE Nowadays, along with the age and character of the child, methods of child educating vary widely There’re two main ways for parents to teach their children such as loving guidance and corporal punishment In my opinion, Each method has its own advantages Firstly, when parents use loving guidance, their children are more likely to behave in positive ways This is because children love to hear sweet thing and their psychology’s so complicated Punishment sometimes don’t make them scared However, with a positive relationship they look up to and admire us, and naturally look to our leadership Besides, instead of making kids feel worse about themselves, loving guidance is the best way that helps the childs focus on improving their behavior rather than on being angry at you On the other hand, Others believe that corporal punishment for children is a useful form of discipline, it does not harm the child if it is done carefully and with love Admittedly, there are many reasons to allow corporal punishment First point is that, for childrens’ better future and their development of selfdiscipline, the parents believe they have a right to raise children in their own ways and they fear that their children will be spoiled or uncontrollable if they are not punished for bad behaviour.The second point is that, it is quick and effective and more memorable, it prevents them from repeating the same mistake in the future Significantly, it will help them to learn the right from the wrong in a better way if use properly In conclusion, both loving guidance and corporal punishment can be useful method of discipline However, it would be better if parents can balance bettwen two ways of educating their children and remember punishments should be the last choice for parents TOPIC4: DO YOU THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA FOR TEENAGERS TO HAVE JOBS WHY THEY ARE STILL STUDENTS? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE Some people think that it is not a g good idea for teenagers to have jobs while they are still students I not agree with them In my opinion, teenagers should get a job if they can There are main reasons First of all, I think that students not know the value of money It’s normal that parents give their children everything they need Therefore, they are careless about money issues But If they have a job, they can learn how difficult to earn money so that they can realize how important money is Through this experience they would be able to deal with money well Secondly, getting a job helps teenagers be responsible and independent when they can earn money by themselves, students feel more confident Then they can live on their own, take responsibility for their behavior And if they really want something but not want to ask their parents, starting a job is only one choice Thirdly, teenagers who have jobs while they are still students also have more chance, in the future than others Once students start working, they start to know how the real world works and how the things really are They learn new things that will help them in the future such as how to cope with their society Some people afraid that a job can interfere with teenagers school work But if you not try, you not know anything In conclusion, I think it is a good idea for teenagers to have jobs while they are still students because that helps they know the value of money, makes them be more condident and independent and helps them in the in future TOPIC5: (3) WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION AT A JOB INTERVIEW? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE The interview is one of the most important elements in job search process An interview is a discussion between you and an employer to find out if you can the job In my opinion, there’re tips that you should follow in interview to make a good impression: Fristly, You should be prompt and professional Always arrive early You need begin the interview with a smile and a firm handshake Moreover, during the interview, be positive and show your your interest Remember to listen carefully to the interview questions so that you actually answer the question, and never interrupt If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification .Although you want to be open and honest in your interview, avoid talking about your personal or financial problems, save discussion of salary for later Besides, Eye contact, smile and a calm, clear speaking voice are excellent ways to show your confidence Secondly, one of the most important factors to gain success in the interview is how you look It's easy to rule yourself out of a job just because you didn't take care of your appearance, so make sure that you are well-dressed Wear a professional business suit, both men and women should choose subdued colors (blues, browns, grays, black) which make a professional impression Women should avoid wearing too much jewelry or make up, men should avoid flashy suit And, remember that no need to use too much strong perfumes In conclusion, If you follow two tips above, you’ll get on an employer’s good side, make a positive and lasting impression TOPIC6: SUPPOSE YOU COULD STUDY AT A UNIVERSITY THAT YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO WHICH UNIVERSITY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE Suppose one day I could study at a university that I have always wanted to, I would choose FTU (means Foreign Trade University) for three main reasons: Firstly ,this is one of the best universities in Vietnam FTU is always appreciated as it concludes qualified and experienced teachers and some of whom are professors who studied abroard They taught good students who have been successful in their career and as you know, every year many students in high schools register for this university in spite of its high mark It is enough for us to know how good it is Secondly, when studying at FTU, we have many chances to find good jobs with high salary Because of its quality of education, companies of Vietnam or branches of international companies usually take notice of people who graduated from FTU And these people are often offered positons which may be promoted in the future If they work hard, they may be gone aboard as representative of their company Therefore they have opportunities to understand more about other culture, economy Thirdly, we will be more energetic and powerful because FTU is a dynamic university Every year, this university organizes many activities to strenthen studens’s unite For example, last year a meaningful program was occurred, it was called book exchange Its pupose is to help new students economise money and remind them keep their book in good condition First year students would bring their old book to change text books of their “ elder brothers or sisters” in university This program was successful more than expected and it may be continued in next years So there many wonderful thing when we study at Foreign Trade University and I hope I can pass the entrance examination and become a student of this university (4) TOPIC7: WHICH KIND OF WORK DO YOU HOPE TO DO IN THE FUTURE? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE It’s said that school is the most difficult time but it also keep many joys for us and I strongly agree with this statement It can’t be denied that school is the most difficult time - Fristly, We, students are supposed to study hard to have good grade and satisfy teachers and parents We must pass the first-semester exam and the final one The national exam for grade-12 students is no less important The “two in one” exam can cause stress and tension for all of us How can we enter a good university? What if we fail the exam? We must make great efforts to fulfil everything - Secondly, students must keep under strict discipline and afraid of being punished when break the rules They feel no free - Thirdly, some students are victim of school violence such as bully or boycott As a result, they changed the school or dropped going to school Despite difficulties we have to cope with many joys - At school students can gain knowledge and discover many interesting things This is necessary because it helps students to improve their behaviour, soft-skills and have a better future - Moreover, at school students also have a lot of friends We can take part in after-school activities, including outdoor ones held by our school or class We can sing, dance, chitchat, tell jokes, play games and more We can go on an excursion to our favourite place That must be an unforgettable memory - We can volunteer work to help disabled or homeless children That is to take an active part in charity work It can bring us a lot of happiness In conclusion, school time is difficult but it is the most thougthful time that people never forget (5) TOPIC9: SOME PEOPLE PREFER TO LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN OTHERS PREFER TO LIVE IN A BIG CITY WHICH PLACE WOULD YOU PREFER TO LIVE IN? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE Many people likes working linving in a small town while some others like living in a big city Each choice has its own advantages and disadvantages In my opinion, I think living in a big city is much better than living in a small town for many of reasons follow: Firstly, Citizens have higher standard of living In the city, all facilities are available: schools, hospitals and malls, people no need move to other city for study or treatment Big city also contains different institutions, banks, hotels and airports,…Moreover, in all big cities, the publictransport is developed quite well to help people move to work and to different place in a short time Beside, the big cities can also offer a variety of entertainment range from cinemas, theatres, concerts, and clubs to entertaining parks, … where we can spend their free time It helps us to relax and bring them a lot of pleasure Thirdly, living in a big city have more opportunities of employment People in the city work in different kinds of jobs, while in the countryside there aren’t often a variety of job opportunities Also, the international company take place in big city provides employment and good salary So people living in a big city can find work easily and get high salary Finally, what I think that this is the best advantage to live in a big city is there are many people in a city Apparently, it cause some trouble so this is may harm our life However, from different point of view, each people has different type of thinking or characteristics This means people can stimulate each other and improve something they have The more there are people, the more views or characteristics exist In conclusion, For the reasons I mentioned above, I think living in a big city is much better than a small town People can learn a lot of things though living in a big city TOPIC10: A FOREIGN VISITOR HAS ONLY ONE DAY TO SPEND IN YOUR COUNTRY WHERE SHOULD VISITOR GO ON THAT DAY? WHY? GET READY TO TALK TO AN AUDIENCE ABOUT THIS ISSUE A foreign visitor has only one day to spend in my country If I were him or her, I would visit Ha Long Bay for many of reasons: Firstly, The scenery in and around Ha Long Bay is breathtaking that the foreign visitor would enjoy Ha Long Bay has been twice recognized as a natural heritage site of the world by UNESCO, and it is also one of seven new natural wonders of the world It has the unique arrangement of water, mountains and wildlife so that it becomes the most spectacular tourist attraction in our country It is a masterpiece created by Nature Secondly, One of the most unique things about HaLong is its numerous caves and islets Some of the caves have been prepared for tourists with easy walkways and special lights Other caves have been left in their natural state, which makes viewing them even more fascinating The foreign vistor can visit Dau Go Cave (Wooden Stakes), Thien Cung Grotto (Heaven Palace), Titov Island… Especially, the wonderful landmark he / she shouldn’t miss is “Rooster - Hen Islet” or “Kissing Rocks Islet” It is the icon of Ha Long Bay It is a chance in a million for a foreign visitor to discover something mysterious and interesting Thirdly, There are many activities that the visitor can enjoy at Ha Long Bay For example, he/she can tour Cat Ba National Park, where they will see an abundance of wildlife He/she can also enjoy hiking excursions on several of the mountains of various islands Kayaking, canoeing, climbing, and biking are also among the activities that visitor regularly enjoys He/she can even sunbathe or swim on the many beaches in (6) the area The most interesting things is that the visitor can spend the night on the boat, go fishing and enjoy many delicious sea foods In conclude, For reasons above, I think HaLong Bay is a must-see destination for any travelers when they go to Vietnam (7)
