Date of preparing: Week 28 Period 61 + 62 UNIT 13: LETTER Z Lesson 3+ I OBJECTIVES: Knowledge: : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:  Read and say the three Zzwordscorrectly  Recognize and say an extra Zz word correctly Vocabulary: Zoo, zebra, zip, zero Skills: - Develop Ss reading, writing, speaking and listening skills Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson Work hard III TEACHING AIDS: Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks II TEACHING METHODS: - Work in pairs , individual, in groups … IV PROCEDURE: Class organization: - Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you? - Checking for the students’ attendence: Class Date of teaching Absent students 2A ………………………………………………… 2B ………………………………………………… 2C ………………………………………………… Warm up :5’ Activity: What is it?  Teacher holds up a phonics card, partly hidden by a sheet of paper  Slowly reveal the phonics cards The students try to guest what the phonics card is  Teacher can use some more cards from the previous units New lesson Teacher’s and students’ activities * Activity 1: 13’ – apply information technology  Point to the lettersand elicit their names and sounds  Explain the activity  Ask the students to find and colour the pictures with the z sound  Go around the classroom providing any necessary help  Ask the student to name the other items Activity (15’)  Show the students the zero phonics card Point to it and Content Which ones begin with the z sound? Colour Listen, point repeat Colour and the say: /z/ - zero Ask them to repeat  Make a zero with your thumb and your index finger and say: /z/ - zero Encourage the students to the same  Say the letter The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can)  Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat the word  Point to the picture and have students name them  Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /z/ sound Go around the classroom providing any necessary help  Activity: Craftwork Ask the students to take out their notebooks  Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter Yand the picture of the item in their notebooks  Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture  The first three students who finish will present their letters and pictures to the class * Activity 1:  Write on the board the capital letter Z (write slowly to demonstrate its formation)  Point to it and elicit the sound /z/  Show the formation in the air (taking care when facing to the students that the letter is formed the correct way for them)  Repeat with the small letter z  The students trace the letters in their activity books  Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the students to say the sound of the letter * Activity 2:  Explain the activity First, the students trace the letters in the boxes Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures  Check around the classroom * Activity 3:  Divide the class into teams, A and B Ask students from each team to come to the board  Write the four words zoo, zebra, zip, zeroon the board  Teacher calls out/ shows the phonics card of one of the phonic cards, the students have to race to touch the word  The student who touches first wins a point for his/ her pictures of the words that start with the z sound Say the z words Trace and say Trace and match Answer keys: Vv- violin Ww- well Xx- taxi Yy- yacht Activity: Speed race team  The team with the more points wins * Activity 4: Write the letter Zz  Explain the activity Colour the pictures of  Point to the pictures and elicit their names the words that start with  Ask the students to write the letter Zz in the box the z sound  Ask them to colour the pictures that start with the z sound  Go around and provide any necessary help Activity 5: Look and tick () the  Explain the activity correct sound  Point to the letters and say the sounds  Point to the pictures and elicit their names  Ask the students to tick the correct sound for each item  Go around the classroom and provide any necessary help Consolidation: (3’) What’s the content of the lesson? The students holding the cards must say the name of the item  Keep passing the first card and pass the second card to each group  Say: Stop! The students holding the cards must say the name of the item  Continue with other cards New lesson Teacher’s and students’ activities Content * Activity 1: (10’) Listen Read along  book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time  Ask them if they remember the previous story If not, the teacher can spend some time going through it  Prepare phonics cards of these word: watch, yo-yo, box, van, zebra  Ask the students to read out the words  Invite students to guess what they think the story is about  Ask the students to look at the book  Ask them questions about what they can see in the pictures e.g Teacher: (pointing to the ox in picture 1) Look! What’s this? Class: (It’s an) ox! Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture 1) Yes! The ox has a … Class: watch! etc  Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words  Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat (chorally and/ or individually)  Finally, ask individual students to read the story aloud * Activity 2: (10’)  Point and elicit the items  Ask the students to choose the correct item and draw it in the box  Explain to them that they can use any colour they like to colour the item.` Activity 3: (10’)  Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words and invite the students to mime them (the watch, the yo-yo, the box, the van, the zebra)  Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story  Encourage them to have fun as they perform * Activity 1:(8’)  Explain the activity  The students say the names of the items and their beginning sounds  Ask them to colour the corresponding letter  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help  Choose individual students to say the letters and the sounds aloud * Activity 2:Act Out (8’)  Explain the activity  Ask the students to tick the letters that correspond to the pictures  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the sounds or the items  Ask the class to say out the name of each item and the correct letter of each one * Activity 3: (8’)  Explain the activity  Ask the students to say the words for each picture  Then ask them to circle the ones that begin with the same sound What’s in the box? Draw and color Act out What is the beginning sound? Colour Say the letter and the sound Look and tick Say the word Circle the ones that begin with the same sound  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help * Activity 4: (8’)  Explain the activity  Elicit the names of the items  Play the CD  The students listen and circle the correct picture  Listen again, pause and ask the students to repeat the item they hear * Activity 1:  Explain the activity  Elicit the letter and the sound for each  Ask the students to look at each letter and picture and put a tick or a cross  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help  Choose individual students to say the letters, the sounds and the words aloud * Activity 2:  Explain the activity  Elicit the letters and the sounds for each  Ask the students to look at each letter and draw lines to corresponding pictures  Ask them to write the upper and lower case letters  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the sounds or the items  Ask the class to say out the name of each item and the correct letter of each one * Activity 3:  Explain the activity  Play the CD The students listen to the sounds and write the letters they hear  Ask the students to circle the right picture that corresponds to the letter  Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help * Activity 4:  Divide the class into two team, team A and team B  Choose a student from a team to come to the front of the classroom  Show him/her a phonics card from the previous unit or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out  The remaining students try to guess the correct Listen and circle Answer key: yellow watch4 van ox Look and put a tick (ü) or a cross (O) Match and write Listen and write the letters Then circle the right pictures Activity: Act It Out answer.The first student to have the correct answer wins a point for his/ her team  Choose another student from other team to come and the activity continues  The team with more points wins Consolidation: (3’) What’s the content of the lesson?
