I. GRAMMAR: The comparison 1 Equal Comparison

An adjective or adverb is used to show that two things share a quality in the same amount S1 + V+ as + adj/adv + as + S2

Ex: My car is as new as your car I run as fast as my brother 2 The comparatives

Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify (larger, smaller, faster, higher)

a Short adjectives

S1 + V + adj/ adv+ er + than + S2 Ex: Your son is cleverer than mine

She plays the piano better than me b Long adjectives

S1 + V + more + adj/adv + than + S2 Ex: Her dress is more beautiful than yours

He drives car more carefully than his friend *Note:

 Good/ well Better  Bad/ badly Worse  Little Less

 Much/ many More  Far Farther/ furthes  Old Older/ elder

3 The superlatives

Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or lower limit of a quality (the tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest)

a Short adjectives

S + V + adj/ adv+ est + O + in/ of…

Ex: Tom’s house is the biggest house in his neighbourhood He was the wisest man I ever knew

b Long adjectives

S + V + the most + adj/adv + O + in/ of… Ex: She can find files the most quickly

This office is the most modern one in the building *Note:

 Good/ well The best: Tốt  Bad/ badly The worst: Tệnhất  Little The least: Ít

 Much/ many The most: Nhiều  Far  The farthest/ the furthes: Xanhất
