1 SIMPLE PAST TENSE (THÌ QUÁ KHỨ ĐƠN)

E.g

1.1 Form

* to be (was/ were) (+) S + was/ were…

E.g I was at home last night (-) S + was/were not…

E.g My brother wasn’t at home last night (?) …were/ was + S…?

E.g Where were they last night? * Ordinary verbs (động từ thường) (+) S + V-ed / V2

E.g I came home late last night (-) S + did not + V (infinitive)

E.g My brother didn’t come home two days ago (?) did + S + V(infinitive)?

1.3 Time expressions: Simple past tense - yesterday

- three days/ years/ months ago - last night/ Sunday/month - in 1999, in the past

1.4 Practice: Simple past tense (thì khứ đơn)

2 PRESENT PERFECT TENSE (THÌ HIỆN TẠI HỒN THÀNH) E.g I started studying English ten years ago

2.1 Form: Present perfect tense (thì hi n t i hoàn thành)ệ (+) S + have / has + P.P …

E.g I have read this book many times (-)S + have not (haven't)/has not (hasn't) + P.P …

E.g How long have they been here?

2.2 Use: Present perfect tense (thì hồn thành)

a To talk about actions that started in the past and continue in the present

E.g My grandmother has lived here for all her life

b To talk about actions happened in an indefinite time in the past

E.g I have lost my keys I can’t find them now

2.3 Time expressions: Present perfect tense (thì hi n t i hồn ệ thành)

- since + a point of time

E.g since 1919, since I was born - for + a period of time

E.g for ten years, for three hours

- Adverbs: recently, already, yet, never, ever… Practice

Exercise 1: Use the present perfect or simple past of the verbs in brackets to complete the sentences.

3.1 Rewrite the sentence without changing the meaning, using cues given.
