Tính từ dài ( long) Adjective tính có từ hai âm tiết trở lên (ví dụ: stupid, beautiful, difficult, expensive, v.v)

Tuy nhiên có vài trường hợp đặc biệt khác:
Với tính từ dài có hai âm tiết tận -er, -le, -ow, -et, ta xem như tính từ ngắn (ví dụ: clever ⇒ cleverer; simple ⇒ simpler; quiet ⇒ quieter).
Với tính từ ngắn, sau phụ âm nguyên âm ta gấp đơi phụ âm (ví dụ: big ⇒ bigger, sad ⇒ sadder).
Với tính từ trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận -y, ta chuyển -y thành -i thêm -er -est (ví dụ: early ⇒ earlier; dirty ⇒ dirtier). Tuy nhiên, trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận -ly, ta cần dùng cấu trúc "more" "most" (ví dụ: quick ⇒ more quickly; likely ⇒ more likely).
