- Greet students *Game: What is it?

- Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time - Partly hidden by a sheet of paper

- Slowly reveal the phonics card

- Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says - Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words

- Ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they change roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words

- Put the pen, panda and parrot phonics cards up on the board

2 Warm up(5') - Greet students.

* Game: Touching Game

- Put the phonics cards on the board in this order: pen, panda, parrot.

- Divide the class into teams; call one student of each team to stand 1m from the board

- Read one of the three words out loud (e.g a pen), students must run to tap the card of that word

- Student who taps the correct card first will get point for his/her team - Call 4-6 students per team to the board if possible

6 Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the same sound (8 ')

- Put up the parrot, panda and octopus phonics cards on the board

- Point to the phonics cards, read

words_”parrot, panda, octopus” slowly and ask the students which one begins with letter Pp

- Circle the parrot and panda phonics cards - Ask the students to take out their pencils - Give the students minutes to circle the pictures that have Pp in them

- Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

*Game: Chinese Whispers (5')

- Divide the class into or teams with the same numbers of students in each team - The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher

whispers a word/words to them

- The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on

- The last students say the word/words aloud

7 Listen Point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the p sound Say the p words (Track 19) (7')

- Show the students the pony phonics card Point to it and say: // - pony Ask them to repeat

- Mime riding a pony and say: // - pony Encourage the students to the same - Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/ crayons

- Point to the pictures, the students corresponding actions and say the words - Give the students minutes to colour in the pictures of the words that begin with the // sound

6 Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the same sound

- Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

*Game: Name It Game (10')

- Arrange some chairs, back to back, in the middle of the room

- Choose phonics cards and place them on the chairs

- Play the song (Track 18)

- When the music stops, the students pick up a phonics card and, one at a time, tell the name of the item pictured on their phonics card

- The student who gives an incorrect answer is out of the game

Play the game as many times as you think is necessary
