Click and drag to create a triangle shape similar to the following:
You have just drawn a shape and we will now modify it by changing its outline color On the Home tab and in the Colors group, click a blue of your choice (we chose indigo) The outline color has changed and we will now add a line to make it look more like a mountain
On the Home tab and in the Shapes group, click the arrow for Brushes and then click the (Crayon) brush
You should notice that as you move the cursor into the drawing area that the size of the brush is too big for what you want to do
On the Home tab and in the Size group, click the Size command and then click the first one in the list
Starting somewhere on the left side of the triangle, click to create a curved line to simulate a snowcap on the mountain, similar to the following:
Suppose we now want to fill in the bottom portion of the triangle so it looks more like a mountain
Note: Be sure that your snowcap line connects to both sides of the triangle, completely separating the top of the triangle from the bottom
On the Home tab and in the Tools group, click the (Fill with color) button
On the Home tab and in the Colors group, ensure the same blue you selected for the outline color of the triangle is selected. Then click in the bottom portion of the triangle
Congratulations – you have just used drawing tools to create a mountain that can now be saved and inserted as a picture in another program
Click the button at the top left corner of the Paint window, and point to Save as

Notice the list of file formats you can use to save your file. You will want to select a format suitable for how you plan to use your drawing. The higher the quality, the larger the file. In this case, we will choose JPEG Click JPEG picture, and navigate to the location for the student data files
In the Save as field, type: Mountain ‐ Student for the file name and then click Save Now try opening a picture in Paint and reducing its size
Click the button and then click Open. Navigate to the student data files and in the Software folder, doubleclick the big dipper file
On the Home tab, click the Resize button
Change the percentage to 40 for both horizontal and vertical. Then click OK

Suppose you decide you would like to save this smaller version with a different name than the original Click and then point to Save as
Click PNG picture and type: big dipper ‐ student as the new file name. Click Save
Rightclick the Start button and click Open Windows Explorer. Navigate to the 7328 Student Files\Software folder and examine the file sizes for the two big dipper files. If necessary, change the view to be Details You should notice that the PNG file is slightly larger than the original JPG format; this is because even though you reduced the size of the picture you saved the file using the higher quality PNG file format
