Pre – reading - Ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss what will happen to: people / environment / economy / society / science . in the future. - Help Ss answer the two questions in textbook by giving the guiding words or phrases. - Introduce some new words or phrases: * Group work. Give their ideas and add the numbers. - If they have from 40 to 60, they are pessimists. - If they have more than 65, they are optimists. * Take note the meaning of the two words: + optimist (n) one who looks on the bright side of things -> optimistic (a) + pessimist (n) one who looks on the dark side of things -> pessimistic (a) * Listen carefully * Pair work, take note their answers: Eg: People more intelligent / active, poorer, richer, Environment cleaner / more polluted . Economy develop / Society equitable / modern / Science Labour-saving devices / develop . . * Give the answer 1. It will be better because: - We will have better condition in learning, working, traveling, . - We can live in a fresher environment, have more chances to do everything we like . Task 3 : Complete the notes - Ask Ss to read the request of the task - Have them work in groups of four and write down their answer on a paper. - Let Ss to change their answer to other group and check to each another. - Give feedback. 3. Iii .Consolidation & homework ( 5 Min.) - Summarize the main content of the text. - Ask Ss to answer the Qs again & write a short passage to tell about the life in the future. - The writer personally contributed 5,000,000 VND to the earthquake fund. Suggested ideas : Advantages: - save labor, lighten our work - do difficulties/ hard jobs so that men have more than time to enjoy life or do more creative work. Disadvantages: - replace human beings in many fields so many people will lose their jobs or go jobless. - people become more independent on robots; we can’t work properly when the power is off or when robots stop working Goodbye! Period 46 B. SPEAKING Teaching date… /……/2008 A. Aims : By the end of the lesson students will be able to tell about life in the future and discuss predictions about life in the future. B. Methods: Integrated, mainly communicative approaching. C. Teaching aids: Pictures, poster, handouts and real objects. D. Procedures : TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES I. Warm- up ( 5 Min): Asks Ss to close their books and answer the questions, using information in reading lesson: - What our life will be in the future? T leads in new lesson: Speaking II. Presentation ( 35 Min.) Task 1: Saying about what will have happened by the end of the 21st century Asks s to look at the book and work with their partner to make an example, using the structure in the question. S + will have + P.P Asks them to give their answers. The students can use many different sentences. The teacher writes the answer on the blackboard. Have the Ss work in pairs. Goes around the class to help the Ss and corrects the mistakes. Asks some pairs to tell their answer. The Students can use many different sentences. Give feedback. Task 2: Pairwork Whether the predictions in Task 1 are likely or unlikely to happen. The teacher gives the example: I think it is very unlikely that by the end of the 21st century Chinese astronauts will have landed on Mars, because it is too far from the earth. What structure is used in the sentences? * Giving opinion: I think ./ On my opinion . Expected answers: - The whole world will experience a period of economic depression. - Our life will be far better than it is today. - We will be living in a much clear environment/ worse environment People will work in better conditions Practice in pairs Make the example: - What will have happened in the end of the 21st century? - Chinese will have landed on the Moon. Chinese will have sent their astronauts to the Moon. Chinese astronauts will have set foot on the Moon. Expected answers: 1. The new moon city will have had a population of over 200,000 people The third new moon city will have opened There will have been three cities on the moon 2. People will have lived to be 150 The 150th birthday party will have been celebrated. The oldest citizen will have been 150 years old. 3. The cold war will have been ended. Common cold will have been wiped out. People will not have been worried about common cold. Common cold will not have been a problem. 4. (science and technology will have developed) -> Reason A: I quite agree with you - Have the Ss to practise in pairs - Go around the class to help the Ss and asks some pairs to tell their dialogues in front of the class Task 3: Groupwork Making predictions : Asks the Ss to use the information in tasks 1 and 2 to make predictions. Goes around the class to help the Ss and correct the mistakes. Asks some groups to practise in front of the class. Hi D, do you think people will have driven car on the sea water by the end of the 21 st century. B: Oh, in my opinion, maybe there will not have happened because it will have been impossible. 4. A: Hi B, what do you think man will have been able to have holiday resort on Jupiter? B: I think they won’t have been. It is too costly Use the information in tasks 2 to make predictions 1. A: The newspaper says that Chinese astronauts will have landed on Mars by the end of the 21 st century. B: No kidding! Isn’t it too far from us? I don’t think it is likely to happen. A: You’re right. But I still think that there will have been a solution to solve it then. B: I suppose so. Because people will have worked at home on computers linked in a head office. A: I see. And how about traveling? B: As for me, I think it is likely that people will have driven their cars around the world on a super highway. The super highways will have connected all the continents. (good ones and bad ones ) II. Presentation (35Min.) 1. Pre-listening Activity 1: -Give the questions in the textbook and calls some Ss to answer: a. What factors affect people ‘s life expectancy in the future ? b. B. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a paragraph describing the world in which they would like to live in in the future. B. Methods: communicative approaching C. Teaching aids: textbooks, cassette , pictures D. Procedures: TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES I. Warm – up ( 5 min ): Network problems of people nowadays unemployment - Ask Ss to list the problems that people on earth are facing nowadays as many as possible. - Would you like to live in a better world ? -What you think the world in the year 2020 like ? Today we are going to write a paragraph to describe about an ideal world in the year 2020. II. Presentation ( 35 Min.) 1, Pre – writing : Activity 1 Task 1 :Read and answer the questions : * Vocabulary : 1. under the threat of terrorism :trong sự đe doạ của chủ nghĩa khủng bố 2. live in harmony (n): sống trong sự hài hoà 3.materialistic (adj.) theo chủ nghĩa vật chất - Have them to work in pair to answer the questions. - Call some Ss to give their answers. - Give feedback. Consolidation & Homework(5 Min ) - Write Task 2 in the form of a conversation between two students. - Prepare lesson : Language focus unemployment, * Automation ; robots, machines, automotive cars, * Environment : clean and healthy, more green trees in cities * people: many more treatments to cure sickness; live longer, be active longer Sample writing: My ideal world will be an interesting one. In the year of 2020, the global economy will develop firmly and steadily. People will live in high standards, there will not be poverty in all the world, so they will not worry about food, accommodation . . Every one will have appreciate word to do . Especially, robots will be used to help housewives to do all the housework, even they will read anything for us. People will use machines to take over their work., they won’t use their hands, but only their intelligence or brain operate. Cars will drive themselves ,we just tell the cars where to go. We won’t have to type on computers. Instead, we’ll say the words and the computer will type them. People will live longer. They will live in a good ,clean and healthy environment. There will no pollution, no noise, there will be more parks with green trees . They won’t worry about diseases. There will be many more treatments to cure sickness.
