WEPs Leadership Award: FAQs What is the WEPs Leadership Award? The Leadership Award of the Women’s Empowerment Principles—Equality Means Business (WEPS) www.WEPrinciples.org, a partnership initiative of UN Women and the UN Global Compact, seeks to recognize business leaders—men and women— for their exceptional championship of gender equality and support for the Principles Who is eligible to apply? Nominations are open to companies whose CEOs (present or past) have signed or intend to sign the WEPs CEO Statement of Support by 20 December 2012 See www.weprinciples.org on how to sign How is a CEO nominated? What is the deadline? There is a WEPs Leadership Award Nomination form available on the WEPs website The form must be complete and returned by 20 December 2012 Nominations and the accompanying documentation must come from within the company of the CEO nominated How many CEOs will be recognized? There will be up to three awards given annually Where and when will the award be given? There will be a WEPs Leadership Award luncheon at the United Nations in New York City on March 2013 timed to the annual WEPs Equality Means Business Event What are the criteria for the Leadership Award? The review process seeks to shine a light on outstanding and innovative initiatives, within the company’s context, taken by a CEO to advance the efforts to implement the WEPs and achieve gender equality Specifically, the review will look for details on specific actions spearheaded by the CEO that resulted in concrete sustainable programmes with measurable impact Nominations should include sufficient detailed information accompanied by company documents or reports that respond to the nomination questions Actions taken to champion women, strengthening women’s leadership within the company, will also be noted How will nominations be reviewed? Members of the WEPs Leadership Group, a multi-stakeholder group that provides advice to the WEPs team and represents business, academia, civil society, women’s organizations and international institutions, will review the nominations and make recommendations for the Award No Leadership Group member whose CEO is a nominee will take part in the awards review When will a decision be made? The awardees will be notified by 18 January 2013 The public announcement will be made in conjunction with the WEPs March Equality Means Business Event and Awards Leadership luncheon
