OBJECTIVES : - Knowledge: Helps Ss to practice in persuading someone to do something. - Skills: By the end of this lesson, Ss will able to persuade their friends to attend the school they like. - Teaching aids: Lesson plan; poster paper on page 34. B. PROCEDURE : I. SETTLEMENTS (1 M). II. CHECKING (5 M): - Asks Ss to play the role of the examiner & the candidate to ask & asnwer the questions in the poster on page 33: ROYAL ENGLISH COLLEGE. - Correct & comments. III. NEW LESSON: TEACHER’S WORKS STUDENT’S WORKS PRE-SPEAKING - Introduces the requirement & helps Ss to play the game in two groups by matching the name of the country to its capital. - Comments the game. Time: 10 M. 1. Pelmanism: - Playing the game in two groups by matching the name of the country to its capital. - Commenting the game. England Astralia The USA China New Zealand Canberra Beijing London Washington DC Wellington - Introduces the words by explaining the meaning, using the situation. - Reads the words for the modal (3 times ). Then helps SS to repeat ( 2 times ). - Checks S’s reading in individual & corrects the mistakes. - Writes the words on the Bb & checks the meaning & the pronunciation. - Corrects & asks Ss to copy the words. 2. Vocabulary: Slap the board. Scholarship (n) : học bổng. Aboard (n) : nước ngoài. Dormitory (n): ký túc xá. Campus (n) : khu trường học. Reputation (n): danh tiếng. WHILE-SPEAKING - Set the scene: You’re Thu, Tam & Kim, and you’re awarded a school scholarship Time: 15 M. 2. Working in groups: - Listening & giving the expressions used to persuade someone to do something. of US$ 2,000to attend an English language summer course abroad. Try to persuade your partner to attend the school you would like to go. - Reminds Ss of the expressionsthat they can use to persuade someone to do something. - Corrects & comment. - Asks Ss to work in groups of three to role play Thu, Tam & Kim. Each person tries to persuade his/ her friends to attend the school he/ she would likes to go. - Asks Ss to read the advertisements in the box on page 34 to get information. - Asks some groups to role play in front the class, using the expressions in the box & the information in the three advertisements on page 34. * Example: * Expressions: + I think + What do you think ? + I get there by bus/ car …. + I agree / disagree because + I don’t understand. + Why don’t we ? + If we go to we can . + We should + Let’s - Working in groups of three to role play Thu, Tam & Kim. Each person tries to persuade his/ her friends to attend the school he/ she would likes to go. - Reading the advertisements in the box on page 34 to get information. - Role playing in front the class, using the expressions in the box & the information in the three advertisements on page 34. Thu Tam Kim * The Brighton Language Center - UK. I think we should go to The Brighton Language Center in the UK. Because the school there has excillent reputation & we can live in the dormitory on campus. * Seatle school of English - USA. Why don’t we go to the Seatle school of English in the USA ? You can stay with Vietnamese friends. They will help us a lot. * Brisbane Institute of English - Australia. What do you think about the Brisbane Institute of English in the Australia ? It is quite close to Vietnam & the course is cheaper. POST-SPEAKING - Sets the scene & asks Ss to work in groups of four to discuss the topic “What will you do on Teacher’s Day ?”, using the expressions in the box on page 34 as the cues. - Asks Ss to report the result of their Interviewing in front of the class. - Corrects & comments. Time: 10 M. 3. Discussion. - Working in groups of four to discuss the topic “What will you do on Teacher’s Day ?”, using the expressions in the box on page 34 as the cues. - Reporting the result of their Interviewing in front of the class. - Correcting & commenting. IV. CONSOLIDATION ( Time: 4M ): - Asks Ss to summarize the general idea of the lesson. V. HOMEWORK: - Write a short paragraph to give the reason why you learn English & what should we do to learn English. - Prepare study sheet for the Listen lesson on page 35.
