Objectives 1. Educational Aims: Ss know Van Cao is one of the first generations of Vietnam modern music. He left us many valuable works, especially Tien Quan Ca, the Vietnam National Anthem 2. Knowledge: a. General Knowledge: help Ss understand and be proud of Vietnam music b. Language: 3. Skills: Monologue: - Deciding on True or False statements - Comprehension questions II. Method: III. Teaching Aids: IV. Procedures Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 7’ 8’ 1. Warm up - T gives Ss handouts whose content is a song. The order of the song was changed. - T plays the song and asks Ss to reorder the lyric of the song. - T calls on a student to give the right order - T checks the answers 2. Pre-listening • T asks Ss to work in pairs, look at the picture of Van Cao and tell each other what they know about him. - T calls on some Ss to give their ideas • T asks Ss which of the songs in the book written by Van Cao - T calls on some Ss to answer • T reads the vocabulary and asks Ss to - Reorder the song - Give the answers - Work in pairs, look at the picture of Van Cao and tell each other what they know about him. - Guess what Van Cao’s songs are - Suggested answers: 1. Van Cao’s songs: Suoi Mo, Tien Quan Ca, Truong Ca Song Lo, Lang Toi. 2. Tinh Ca: Hoang Viet 3. Ha Noi Mua Thu: Vu Thanh - Listen and repeat 8’ 9’ 7’ repeat - T asks some Ss to give the meanings of the vocabulary: 1. gentle (adj):soft, not strong, soothing 2. rousing (adj): exciting, violent 3. lyrical (adj): • T has Ss listen to some songs of Van Cao and asks them which of the word above can be used to describe Van Cao music. - T calls on some Ss to give the answers 3. While listening Instruction: you are going to listen to an interview between Lan Huong and Quang Hung. Listen carefully and do the tasks below Task 1 - T has Ss read through the sentences in task 1. - T asks Ss to listen to the tape and decide whether the statements are true of false. - T plays the tape sentence by sentence and asks Ss to listen carefully to finish the task. - T can stop at the difficult sentences for Ss easily to hear - T asks Ss to work in groups to share the answers. - T asks Ss to give the answers and correct the false statements. - T checks the answers and writes down o the board Task 2 - T asks Ss to read the questions in the task quickly and answer them if they can - T asks Ss to listen to the tape again and answer the questions - T plays the tape sentence by sentence for Ss easily to hear. - T asks Ss to work in pairs to compare their answers - T calls on some Ss to answer and go to the board to write down the answers - T checks the answers by playing the tape again 4. Post- listening - T asks Ss to work in groups and discuss Quang Hung’s ideas about Van Cao’s music. - Listen to the songs, discuss the characteristics of Van Cao’s songs. - Read through the sentences in task 1. - Listen to the tape and tick in the appropriate box. - Listen sentence by sentence - Work in groups and share their answers - Suggested answers: 1. F 2. F 3. T 4. F 5. F - Read the questions and answer if they can - Listen to the tape - Listen sentence by sentence carefully - Work in pairs to compare the answers - Suggested answers: 1. It’s “My Favorite Musician” 2. Tien Quan Ca 3. It’s hard and solemn; it makes him feel great and proud of his country. - Work in groups and discuss the ideas 5’ 1’ Do you agree or disagree with him? Why? - the ideas they will discuss are: 1. The best Vietnamese musician of all time is Van Cao. 2. Tien Quan Ca is hard and solemn. 3. His songs about rural life in Vietnam are sweet, gentle and very lyrical. - T asks the groups to write their ideas on a piece of paper. - T calls on some groups to report their ideas - T summarizes the ideas and corrects grammar and vocabulary mistakes. 5. More exercise - T gives Ss handouts containing the tapescript with some dropped words and asks them to listen to the tape again to fill in the blanks. - T plays the tape once again - T asks a student to volunteer to give the answers. If he or she gets all the right answers, gives him or her “+” mark. 6.
