UNIT 12: MUSIC Week 7 Part A: Reading Period 74 Date of preparation: 27/02/2010 Date of teaching: 01/03/2010 Teacher: Vu Thi Bich Thuan * Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to - use vocabulary items related to music - guess the meaning of the words base on the contexts - Scan specific information about music * Method: Integrated, mainly communicative * Teaching aids: textbook * Procedure Teacher’s activities Student’s activities I. WARM-UP:(3’) Hang some picture on the board and some words and its definition on another side, ask S to match the pictures with the most suitable words A B C 1. Composer: a person who writes music 2. Singer: a person who sings 3. Musician: a person who play a musical instrument @ answers A-2 B-3 C-1 Introduce the topic of lesson II. PRE-READING:(10’) Ask S to read aloud the types of music in column A to make sure that they pronounce them correctly S give Vietnamese equivalent of he types of music Ask S to work in pair to make each type of music in column A with its description in column B Ask some S to give the answers Give feedback and correct answers @ Answers: 1. b 2. e 3. d 4. a 5. c Pre-teaching vocabulary: Express (v) biểu lộ, thể hiện Convey(v) truyền tải, thể hiện Funeral (n) đám tang Solemn (a) trang nghiêm, trang trọng Sense (n) giác quan Ask S to make some sentences with above words to check their Play the game, try to match the pictures Read aloud the words Tell the meaning Work in pairs Present their answers Take note Make sentences understanding III. WHILE-READING:(20’) Task 1: gap filling base on word meaning guessing Ask S to read the requirement of the task and make sure that they understand it clearly Write these words on the board: Emotion, lull, communicate, delight, integral part, mournful, solemn Instruct S to read the passage quickly and stop at the line that contain these words to guess their meaning S guess the meaning of the words base on the context in the sentences Check S understand the words correctly by asking them to give the Vietnamese equivalent to the words Ask S to work individually to do the task Go around to observe and offer help Ask S to exchange their works with other S Give correct answers @answers 1. communicate 2. lull 3. delights 4. integral part 5. solemn 6. emotion 7. mournful Task 2: answering questions Ask S to read the requirement of the task and make sure that they understand it clearly Ask them how to do the task. If they can not remember, repeat some instructions for them Ask S to work individually to do the task Then, ask S to discuss answers with a peer Call on some S to write their answers on blackboard and ask them to explain their choices Feedback and give correct answers @ answers 1.
