--- Page 1 --- III. THE FUTURE OF ENGLISH IN VIETNAM According to Bautista (2006), the status of English in Vietnam is currently that of a foreign language. It may be claimed that, as a result of the globalization movement, the development of English in Vietnam is becoming increasingly evident. English has evolved from a simple communication tool to a common language connected with the promotion of local culture. Indeed, Vietnamese English is continuously integrating and strengthening with ASEAN English, and it is improving. The current state of English in Vietnam and its future prospects are referred to as the future of English in Vietnam. Besides, the future of English is expressed in three areas: technology, economy, and education. 3.1 Future of Vietnamese English in Technology The Internet and social media have a big impact on English in every country, including Vietnam. Users of the Internet and social media networks all over the world may now connect with one another, and cross-cultural technology is becoming steadily more widespread. This is exemplified by the fact that today''''s youth converse in a variety of English versions to communicate. According to the current trend, a growing number of new English phrases reflecting various English-speaking regions are being born. Vietnam will become increasingly popular on a variety of platforms. As a result, knowing English will play an increasingly significant role in daily life as the majority of terms will be in English.  Sorhaila (2016) shows that social media platforms like Facebook, as a key new mode of global communication, have allowed linguists to track the evolution and spread of a language online. According to Vietnam''''s General Statistics Office, as of June 2020, Vietnam had 69,280,000 Facebook users, accounting for 70.1 percent of the country''''s total population. The larger the number of social network users in Vietnam, the greater the access to English. Thanks to social networks, the process of contacting English also becomes easier and improving their understanding of the application of the language in technology better. 3.2 The future of Vietnamese English in Economy Vietnam has experienced a significant economic transformation as a result of the explosive industrial revolution 4.0. Economic collaboration is increasing not only in the region but also around the world. That has boosted the English language in Vietnam in recent years. The primary distinction is that Vietnamese companies have paid more attention to other countries'''' regional cultures. Indigenous people''''s culture is linked to their economy.  English is not just a means of communication but also the most effective technique of approaching local culture. Vietnam''''s service, electronic component manufacturing, and import-export industries will have more opportunities to work with industrialized countries around the world. As a result of this multilateral trade, there is a higher reliance on lingua franca. In Vietnam, there is mounting evidence that English has surpassed Vietnamese as the primary commercial language. In the recent report of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam in 2019, Vietnam''''s GDP grew by 7.02%, with export value increasing by 8.1% to $263.45 billion, imports increasing by 7% to 253.51 billion USD. Since becoming a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007, more and more foreign investment capital has entered Vietnam to establish and develop transnational assembly and manufacturing activities, leading to the growing demand of logistics service providers in Vietnam to complete the global supply chain. 3. The future of Vietnamese English in Education Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung requested the Prime Minister to recognize English as a foreign language during the Youth Entrepreneurship Forum 2018 with the topic "Finding breakthrough solutions for innovative entrepreneurs in Vietnam. "Language is culture," Sorhaila (2016) noted. In Vietnam, reality has revealed that English is being used to strengthen regional culture through education. Scholars in Vietnam are collaborating to promote English. Vietnamese students have a better understanding of their own culture as well as the cultures of other countries with similar characteristics by learning English. --- Page 2 --- Furthermore, English has been the predominant language in intensive study programs at institutions in recent years. Hanoi University of Science and Technology provides an actual example. Students specializing in English for Science, Engineering, and Technology (ESET) at SOFL have access to a large library of English materials on science and technology from developed countries, including Japan, New Zealand, France, and Germany are among the countries represented. Native English speakers are unable to assist students at SOFL with all engineering and technology-related challenges. That demand can only be met by specialist resources in technologically advanced countries. As a result, the possibility of exchanging students studying science, engineering, and technology overseas at HUST has increased. Advanced programs that require English as a medium of instruction will become more frequently used and developed in the future across the higher education system.       References: 1. Sorhaila, L.Y.
