Trang 5I INTRODUCTION:
Our lives are always busy with work, always revolving around the wheels of society So we will forget about the good things for human life The good things are the things that are not fancy, not flashy It is also the close, simple things around us Even if the society is crowded and jealous, there are still many good things but very simple with human life Those things are simply getting up early
in the morning and inhaling the scent of the morning Let's sit somewhere watching the rain see how peaceful life is
Or the happy laughter of family members, knowing that you have friends who really support you and no matter what, sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed, just like when together with you to achieve the goal or dream that you are aiming for, those are extremely nice and simple things in daily life These things will help us balance life, live comfortably, happily and bring a lot of joy Make life more beautiful by embellishing the simple things in life Human life does not need luxury and splendor to create happiness and meaning Happiness and the meaning of life sometimes come from the simplest things Simple things are simple but meaningful things, phenomena, actions, not too luxurious, shimmering but still bright Those simple things come from the very life of each person So what makes you genuinely happy ?
II WARM UP:
Vocabulary knowledge is an essential tool for learning English, but memorizing vocabulary can be a significant challenge for many learners To address this, our team has
Trang 6developed a small game that provides an engaging and interactive way to improve vocabulary retention
Game rules:
Divide players into two teams: Team A and Team B Each player receives a slip of paper: Team A members receive English vocabulary words, while Team B members receive the corresponding Vietnamese meanings
Maintain silence: For one minute, no players are allowed to speak or make any sounds
Matching words: Team A members must find the member in Team B with the corresponding Vietnamese meaning for their English vocabulary word For example, a player with the word "Family" on their slip must find the player with the Vietnamese word "Gia đình"
Winning the game: The first pair of players to successfully find each other wins the game

IV GRAMMAR:
1 Gerund (-ing form) after verbs of liking and disliking:
a Uses: Verbs of liking and disliking are often followed by gerunds (the -ing form of a verb) to express our feel-ings about activities or actions Here's a breakdown:
Common verbs:
Liking: like, love, enjoy, adore, fancy, appreciate, prefer
Disliking: hate, dislike, detest, loathe, can't stand, mind, abhor
Trang 8General rule: Most verbs of liking and disliking can take gerunds (though some have additional options like infinitives) To form the gerund, simply add "-ing" to the verb stem (e.g., read -> reading, write -> writing)
b Form:
S + like/ enjoy/ love/ prefer + V-ing + O
S + don’t’ like/ dislike/ hate + V - ing + O
c Example:
Ex1: My mom like cooking
Lan enjoys learning English
I love watching TV
Note:
Some verbs (like "prefer") can also take the infinitive with "to": "I prefer
to stay at home."
With strong emotional intensity, the infinitive might be used after "hate" and "love": "I hate to see you sad."
Some verbs have slightly different meanings with gerunds or infinitives:
"I enjoy cooking" (activity) vs "I enjoy to cook" (ability)
2 Like doing and would like to do:
The phrases "like doing" and "would like to do" are both used to express our interest in activities, but they have subtle differences in meaning and implication
2.1 Like doing:
a Uses: This phrase refers to activities that we already enjoy and regularly participate in It describes an existing preference or established habit
The gerund ("-ing" form of the verb) emphasizes the ongoing nature of the activity and the pleasure we derive from it
b Example:
Trang 9I like reading books before bed (This implies you have a regular habit of reading and find it enjoyable.)
Person reading a book before bed
2.2 Would like to do:
a Use:
- Would like when making an invitation or suggestion:
Usually we often use "What" to ask about someone's wishes and preferences So to make the question more formal and polite, "want" will be used when asking with the general formula:
Example: What would you like to do on the weekend ?
- Use when we want to say something that we missed in
the
- Use Would like when asking a wish or making a polite
inv
Would like is followed by a noun, noun phrase or infinitive with "to" (to + Verb (infinitive))
"Would you like" is used with a polite wish or suggestion Example: Would you like to go to my wedding?
b Example:
I would like to learn how to play the guitar (This indicates
a wish to acquire a new skill, not necessarily that you are actively learning it now.)

VII READING:
Open page 98 and read the article When a hobby becomes
an obsession Answer the question by choosing the best
answer from A, B, C, D
WHEN AN INTEREST BECOMES AN OBSESSION
Whether it's collecting coins, supporting your favourite football team, or just shopping, most people have some kind of interest But what happens when that interest becomes the most important thing in your life? When does an interest become an obsession?
Take Bob Martin, for example In 1988, he went to see the musical Cats at the New London Theatre He enjoyed it so much he went to see it again And again And again every week for fourteen years! He travelled 52,000 miles and saw the show 795 times, spending a
Trang 14total of £20,000 “I don't drink, smoke or run a car, so I could just about afford it,” says the 71-year-old But sadly Bob is now looking for a new hobby The show closed last year after a sixteen-year run in London
For some it's musicals that keep them coming back for more For others, it's fast food Peter Holden, from Washington DC, eats an average of two McDonald's meals
a day He has eaten at more than 11,000 McDonald's (there are 13,500 of them in the whole of the USA) and says, “l'm a collector of the McDonald's dining experience.” He is 1.9 m tall and weighs 90 kg - he says he doesn't put on weight partly because he is lucky and partly because he doesn't eat the fries
Most people collect something at some time in their life, whether it's dolls, trading cards or even stamps, but few take their collections as far as Rodolfo Rengto Vazquez, who has the world's largest collection of books, posters and even life-size models related to his heroes, The Beatles He divides his collection between his apartment and the club he owns in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he now organises a reqular Beatles event which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world But the 6,000 or so items in Rodolfo's collection are nothing compared to the 20,000 items belonging to Jason Joiner - all related to the Star Wars films His collection includes an original Darth Vader costume! But such obsessions can have unfortunate results John Weintraub became obsessed with collecting plastic figures of US presidents given as free gifts in packets of breakfast
