Michael Scriven and Richard Paul made a statement at the 8th Annual International Conference on Critical Thinking and Education Reform in Summer 1987 Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of deliberately and skillfully conceiving, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating knowledge obtained from, or created by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action (Hullfish & Smith, 1961; Ennis, 1962; Ruggiero, 1975; Scriven, 1976; Hallet, 1984; Kitchener, 1986; Pascarella & Terenzini, 1991; Mines, 1990; Halpern, 1996; Paul & Elder, 2001; Petress, 2004; Holyoak & Morrison, 2005) It is built on universal intellectual ideals that transcend subject matter divides in its exemplary form: clarity, correctness, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, excellent reasoning, depth, breadth, and fairness It requires investigating the following thought structures or elements: goal, problem, or question-at-hand; assumptions; ideas; empirical foundation; reasoning leading to conclusions; implications and consequences; objections from different views; and frame of reference Critical thinking, in its ability to respond to a variety of subject matter, issues, and purposes, is part of a family of interwoven modes of thinking that includes scientific thinking, mathematical thinking, historical thinking, anthropological thinking, economic thinking, moral thinking, and philosophical thinking While critical thinking is often cited as a core concept, there can be some confusion and disagreement in defining it due to conceptual complexities coupled with different approaches (French & Tracey 2010; Lloyd & Bahr 2010) With a Western perspective in mind, the study of diverse types of reasoning and argument evolved via a long and illustrious line of great thinkers beginning with Socrates This study focuses on more recent attempts to distill the aspects that are distinctive to critical thinking within this Western heritage Glaser defines critical thinking as regards: “ an attitude of being disposed to consider in a thoughtful way the problems and subjects that come within the range of one's experiences, knowledge of the methods of logical inquiry and reasoning, and some skill in applying those methods.” - Why is critical thinking important in business? Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action When students choose an internship company, for instance, they put critical thinking to use by weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the various companies they have been accepted to, factoring in relevant information such as salary and location… Critical thinking entails not only acquiring information but also analyzing it to identify essential elements (Reckmann, 2023) Every day, business executives perform significant decisions, such as recruiting and terminating employees, reading financial results reports, attending board meetings, and resolving crises in the media The ability to make difficult decisions, like firing an employee or sending a press statement when a crisis threatens to damage a company's brand, is precisely where critical thinking comes into play for business executives A leader must utilize logic to recognize, comprehend, evaluate, and resolve issues while using critical thinking in the workplace It takes time and effort to this Processes at work are frequently made more effective when critical thinking is successfully applied Why critical thinking is crucial in business is explained by the following three instances Firstly, It helps to improve communication strategies Identifying the requirements Document continues below Discover more from: IT Business Administration Đại học Kinh tế Quốc dân 162 documents Go to course Đáp án học phần 11111111111111111111 20 34 IT Business Administration 100% (6) [123doc] - bai-thao-luan-marketing-can-ban-phan-tichthuc-trang-chinh-sach-san-pham-sua-th-true-milk-cua… IT Business Administration 100% (3) Huynh Van Nhut - No description 24 IT Business Administration 100% (2) Chat GPT-4 x Midjourney Training Sheet Version IT Business Administration 100% (2) Tin học kế toán- Chương1 IT Business Administration 100% (1) MOCK TEST - mos IT Business Administration 100% (1) of the target audience necessitates critical thought and is necessary for communicating with various sorts of individuals For instance, if a firm is being acquired by a rival, the CEO must think about how this would affect everyone, from lower-level staff to investors, and decide which signals to deliver to each group Quick action is necessary, and in order to keep the employees' trust, he or she should be the first to break the news to them Secondly, It contributes to supporting smooth operations Continuous critical thinking is necessary to maintain everyday operations in a constantly shifting environment In the event that a restaurant loses power without an emergency generator, for instance, the management would have to determine how to handle the patrons and employees as well as whether or not to attempt to rescue any refrigerated food The manager's likelihood of salvaging anything positive from a bad situation increases with the speed of action Finally, It supports streamline product development To guarantee effectiveness, marketability, and safety, a product development position necessitates several judgments For instance, if a corporation is selling a new kitchen appliance, designing it in a particular manner could make it appear more enticing but it might also make it harder to operate Should the business put more emphasis on fashion or function? The sooner a choice is made, the sooner manufacturing can start Critical thinking has a direct impact on job effectiveness in each of these cases Also, if errors are occurring frequently in business, it is beneficial to investigate whether a lack of critical thinking is the problem rather than a problem that is inherent in a particular person or group of employees Following that, one may evaluate which specific training, coaching, or curriculum would work best for the company To develop critical thinking skills, one might start by applying them to simpler issues, and then progress to more difficult ones encountered on the job Approaching problems with an independent, and reflective thought process is one type of critical thinking By acknowledging the issues and presumptions that can prevent one from assessing an issue for what it is, critical thinking develops arguments based on the available data It involves approaching challenges from a process-centered perspective and making use of the knowledge and objectivity of the fragments of evidence Such abilities are extremely valuable in the corporate sector, saving time and money from the very top to the very lowest In addition to conserving resources for the company, critical thinking improves other abilities used in the workplace, including creativity, analytical proficiency, communication, emotional intelligence, and general problem-solving Moreover, critical thinking is seen as a soft talent Soft interpersonal skills are challenging to measure in contrast to hard abilities like language competence Soft skills include teamwork, communication, and leadership; they may not be "measurable" with a test or figures, but they are evident in how individuals interact with one another The value of soft skills in the workforce is being recognized more and more Professionals must work to improve this soft talent since critical thinking is crucial in business Similar to problem-solving, critical thinking is a talent that can be learned with enough practice and commitment Professionals can acquire this expertise with the use of real-world simulations or environments Also, for critical thinking to have an influence on business, clear and assured communication is a need (another soft skill) If they can't convey their thoughts to senior executives, supervisors, or coworkers, even business-knowledgeable individuals are unlikely to succeed II Apply critical thinking to find what’s wrong with Apple in Vietnam Observation When you decide on something, you often rely on your observations and relate them to your previous experiences Observational skills are the starting point for critical thinking That is why we can quickly sense and identify a new problem Those skilled in observation are also capable of understanding why something might be a problem They may even be able to predict when a problem might occur before it happens based on their experience We improve our observation skills by slowing down our pace of processing information and training ourselves to pay closer attention to our surroundings Then, consider if we notice trends in behavior, transactions, or data that might be helpful for our team to address In our group's observations about Apple in Viet Nam market, I extracted the following information: Unlike other firms that overwhelm you with lavish and eye-catching advertising, Apple follows the "less is more" principle The brand employs minimalist features to create out-of-the-box commercials, creating a sense of mystery that people will undoubtedly want to solve for themselves Less than a month after Vietnam lifted the lockdown late last year, dozens of people queued overnight to get their hands on iPhone 13 Sales start at midnight, and Vietnamese aren’t waiting for sunrise to join the hype Distributors last year said they ran out of products due large turnout In every new iPhone release, the same scenario happens every time.(vie It cannot be denied that Apple has done an excellent in its branding Many famous people in Vietnam use iPhones, such as singer Bao Thy, Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh, footballer Bui Tien Dung, and even Shark Hung These make us subconsciously relate iPhones to people with success, fortune, and good intentions Moreover, with society judging a person's financial standing based on the phone he's carrying, carrying an iPhone is a means to be noticed or to belong While such a mindset is undesirable and puts unneeded pressure on individuals, many Vietnamese feel that possessing an iPhone gives them more confidence to interact — much like wearing a clothing that shows off their social position A handy show of wealth, whether real or fake (Tran, 2023) As observed, although sales in Vietnam have continuously increased over the years, Apple Vietnam is still ranked at level by Apple, while Sing is in group 1, Thailand is in group Belonging to this tier group, Vietnam might have some disadvantages and inconveniences As we easily see that Apple have Apple store in Singapore and Thailand, but in Vietnam - a very potential market for Apple, there are still no Apple store (vtc.vn) Besides, according to Apple's map, only when roaming to Vietnam Region, will the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes appear on Vietnamese territory, while in other countries, these two archipelagos not appear According to this observation, we see that Apple this because they don't want to face political problems and maintain profits in both Vietnam and China markets Analysis a Vietnam leads in growth in iPhone sales in SEA In a report on high-end phone sales in Southeast Asia from Counterpoint Research, the analysis company said that Vietnam has the fastest iPhone product growth rate The data shows that the domestic high-end smartphone segment alone grew by 75% in the second quarter of 2022 At the same time, Apple's iPhone is the main driver of growth in the expensive smartphone segment In the third quarter, smartphone shipments across Southeast Asia fell by 10% in volume Particularly in the high-end phone segment, prices above $ 400 grew upstream “While Samsung shipments fell 13% year-on-year, Apple grew 63% across the entire key market In particular, Vietnam seems to catch the growth rate of iPhone sales faster than neighboring countries, "said an expert of Counterpoint Research At the same time, Vietnam, along with Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines are four key markets for smartphone brands in the region IPhone sales in Vietnam in the third quarter of 2022 At the same time, Vietnam, along with Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines are four key markets for smartphone brands in the region Explaining the upstream growth in the high-end phone segment in Southeast Asia, Glen Cardoza, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, said that the fact that countries raise interest rates and inflation at 5% is not alarming but affects consumers Meanwhile, highincome customers are less affected, helping to maintain growth In the third quarter smartphone sales report in Vietnam published by IDC, Apple is the brand with the best growth compared to the same period in 2021 This brand sold 382,800 phones, 73.3% more than in the third quarter of 2021, with about 140,100 machines However, iPhone sales from July to September still fell 11% compared to the second quarter of 2022 “The decrease compared to the previous quarter was due to resellers liquidating inventory, preparing to launch iPhone 14 in October 2022 "Apple's support for retailers with distribution policy and price discounts helps increase volume genuine products and reduce portable iPhones from abroad," said IDC However, Apple was pushed down to 4th place in terms of market share In the third quarter, Xiaomi and Oppo introduced new mid-range phones with good sales Samsung alone decreased by 5.4% in sales But this company is still firmly in the leading position in the mobile market, far ahead of competitors In Vietnamese retailers, the iPhone is the main product, contributing a lot of revenue and profit Apple phone models often not make it into the best-selling phone group, which is filled with low-cost, popular phone models However, the iPhone leads in the revenue category because of its high value (Vietstock, 2022) b Sovereignty issues in the East Sea and Apple's action The unusual disappearance of two Vietnamese archipelagos from the Apple map was discovered by users around mid-2021 after updating the iOS platform This change infuriated some Vietnamese users, who gave the app one star on the App Store (the software store for iOS and iPadOS) Specifically, up to the iOS 16.3.1 version (the latest), Apple Maps still does not display the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa under Vietnamese sovereignty This area on some other map applications from Google or Bing is fully represented by the East Sea When zooming in on the map to the correct location of the archipelagos, the program only shows blurred points instead of geographical features (with colors representing each region such as mountains and plains), like those obscured by fog (or clouds), and also does not include the name of the place or any other information Meanwhile, other islands under Vietnamese sovereignty, such as Con Son, Phu Quoc, and Con Dao, are still fully expressed 10 Until around the afternoon of December 5, 2022, Apple admitted its error and corrected the map; however, only devices with Vietnam area codes will display the names of the two archipelagos; when roaming to other countries, the map still does not display the name of the Hoang Sa Truong Sa archipelago c Why is Apple loved and hated in the Vietnamese market? Besides achieving success in the Vietnamese market, some users still not really like the iPhone for many reasons, including: It is a fact that the more famous you are, the more people you know, the more people you hate Apple has always been at the top, the most valuable brand, the most successful, and also the most praised But that also leads to Apple being like a magnet that attracts criticism when there are any problems When it comes to the smartphone world, it's split into two distinct halves, Apple (iOS) and Android While Android is divided into other subgroups like Samsung, LG, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and so on, Apple stands alone That's why Apple is always considered the enemy of other Android smartphone manufacturers Apple has a special way of convincing users to spend large sums of money on its products by offering the best products, but also by advertising and marketing, creating a mystical aura that makes people adore the missing apple However, there are many people who are not convinced by that, they think it is wrong to spend thousands of dollars on a technology product that has many alternatives at a much cheaper price That's completely wrong with materialism, and maybe they hate Apple because it does the opposite Maybe something is not hateful in itself, but the fan community causes a lot of negativity and aversion For many people, that's all true when it comes to Apple fans This community is huge and has an outrageous cult of Apple products, regardless of whether the product is good or not From iPhone, iPad, and MacBook to accessories, Apple products are in the high-end segment and are not cheap That has created a wall of barriers between those who can afford to buy Apple products and those who don't 11 Like the gap between rich and poor, there will be envy and hatred Apple can sell its products for less, but the company's strategy is to increase profit margins Apple also killed low-cost iPhones, like the iPhone SE, making many users in newly developed countries unhappy (Việt, 2020) Inference From the analysis, we can see that the Vietnamese apple market is expanding year over year, which increases the market's potential for Apple The CEO, Tim Cook, and Apple executives frequently mention Vietnam as an emerging market for the firm internationally due to its rapid development However, Vietnamese consumers, meanwhile, continue to receive Apple services of subpar quality Products are often sold month later than other markets in the region and are often out of stock, along with the lack of many features in updates and customer service Solution The last stage is to implement the solution once we've discovered an issue Critical thinking is frequently needed while addressing problems to put the best answer into action and determine whether or not it is accomplishing the desired result Realizing the outstanding problems of apple defects in the Vietnamese market We give some suggestions to solve those problems: - Although fixed the error of not showing Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelago in Vietnam territory on apple map but not really fixed completely, only shows when the iPhone is in Vietnam region mode Thereby, we believe that Apple should soon completely improve this error so that the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes are displayed in the territory of Vietnam even when the iPhone is in a different region mode - We also put out further ideas to increase Vietnamese interest in Apple Apple needs to release goods with much improved designs and better functionalities than its previous offerings For instance, the call recording function that other phone companies have long ago, … - Apple’s pricing strategy should also be careful when offering the initial price as well as the discount period to avoid causing negativity to consumers, especially loyal customers 12 III The future of Apple Apple appears confident in the future Consumers for Apple products have formed a cult and are extremely loyal to the company Apple's products and services are made to outperform those of competitors With one of its newest products, Apple is extending its musical endeavors The company has agreements with record labels in order to launch iCloud, a service that lets users to create and listen to their music collections without having to upload individual songs Although Google and Amazon also provide music storage services, Apple has more records available because of iTunes and record label agreements By utilizing these opportunities, Apple might increase its market share in the consumer electronics sector Threats against Apple are regular Several competitors who claim the company stole their intellectual property are suing it Furthermore, even while Apple's aggressive strategy has helped to safeguard its intellectual property, its strict control over its products and trade secrets could be detrimental to the company Apple's iPhones are beginning to lose market share to Google's Android handsets When it comes to competing, Apple may eventually have to reevaluate whether its closed system is the best option The consumer electronics and computer markets have undergone significant change over the past ten years, and Apple has been successful in keeping up Customers haven't shown any signs of losing interest in Apple, and the firm isn't showing any signs of slowing down IV Conclusion So why is critical thinking important to businesses in general and Apple in particular? It gives us an overview, help you to solve problems and thinking critically enables Business Managers to communicate effectively Critical thinking is one of the most in-demand career skills employers seek when trying to attract and retain the best employees – and employers believe critical thinking skills will become even more necessary V References Vietstock (2022) Doanh Số iphone Tại Việt Nam Tăng Trưởng Nhanh Nhất đông Nam Á, Vietstock Vietstock Available at: https://vietstock.vn/2022/11/doanh-so-iphone-taiviet-nam-tang-truong-nhanh-nhat-dong-nam-a-4264-1018699.htm (Accessed: February 28, 2023) 13 Việt, T.D (2020) Vì Sao apple Yêu VÀ Cũng Bị Ghét?
