Relationship building is an essential professional skill in terms of the ability to identify and initiate relationships, develop and maintain them in a way that benefits both you and your partner Good relationships are key to getting things done and are essential when your success depends on other people Why is relationship building especially important in the workplace? 2.1 You must have the people to share the pressure for the job Work pressure is a fairly common problem in today's modern world According to statistics of the ILO - the international labor organization, about 20% of the world's population suffers from excessive stress due to work The main cause of work pressure comes from the job itself, the working environment, and from their colleagues and bosses Overwork, hard work, low pay, layoffs, or false rumors affect employees When you have good relationships with people, colleagues share the workload, trust, and help you in difficult times, all troubles will be reduced An employee who has a good relationship with his boss can easily raise his or her problem and discuss salary if it doesn't make sense 2.2 Because the workplace is like our second home Each of us usually spends at least hours at work with colleagues, employees, and bosses Time spent at work is even more time than you spend with your loved ones Building good and cohesive relationships in the workplace not only makes everyone's work more efficient but also helps to build a comfortable, pleasant working environment Good work relationships also give you freedom Instead of spending time and energy dealing with negative relationships, you can focus on opportunities – from winning new business to focusing on personal development At that time, the second house was really home 2.3 Important for your career Building good relationships in the workplace is not only important for job satisfaction, but also for your promotion When you have a good relationship with colleagues or employees, you will receive their trust and support such as decision votes, nominations, etc Your boss will select and share experiences and skills with people who have a good relationship with them when wandering among those capable people 2.4 Increase work efficiency According to Gallup, businesses with workplace engagement are 22% more productive than businesses without engagement If businesses have good relationships, operational risks are also reduced by 48% and product quality problems are reduced by 41%, thereby increasing business benefits People only care about the quality of work instead of wasting their time and energy criticizing others The consequence of not building good relationships in the workplace 3.1 You are isolated at work You are isolated from everyone at work Believe me, work becomes a source of burden if you are asked to work in isolation We are humans and not machines that work continuously for maybe eight to nine hours We need people around to talk to, to relieve stress An individual will never be able to fulfill their duties at their best if they are stressed Stress doesn't just impair your ability to concentrate It also affects mental peace and health 3.2 Did not receive trust and support from everyone Of course, a person who has no relationship with you, even hates you, there is no way they will help you in your work Between a person who has a close relationship and a person who is not, colleagues will trust and want their close friend to advance and become a leader II BODY: HOW TO BUILD RELATIONSHIP IN THE WORKPLACE? What should the boss to keep a good relationship with employees? A Harvard Business Review survey found that 58% of people trust their friends and colleagues more than their boss What makes this large number of employees say so? The answer probably lies in the relationship between the boss and the employees Good relationships are more about mutual admiration and understanding However, it is a process that needs genuine effort, time, and empathy But, everything will be easier if you know the following ways Firstly, Appreciate your dedicated employees Imagine you work in a company and work hard to meet up the company’s goals and deadlines Work can make you all exhausted and drained A simple gesture or a "Thank you" note can lift your mood and keep you motivated Give your employees the appreciation they need They work for you and dedicate a lot of time and effort to your company’s growth Pat their backs, make them feel special and let them know how much you value their work Do it honestly and not just for the sake of it Though it would take very little time to appreciate their excellent work but for them this can bring a whole new motivation and engagement in their work Secondly, Having a learning attitude Don't take the proverb "The boss is always right" literally The more you hold a high position in the company, the harder it is to bend down to listen to the knowledge and thoughts of employees But you must know that it is your employees who are in direct contact with customers Do they know what customers need? What customers want? That will help the company build the right strategy I remember the saying that a leader conveyed to his employees: "Knowledge is power Shared knowledge is even more powerful Knowledge from those who apply in the company is strongest." Keep a learning attitude, this will help employees feel more comfortable while giving you their point of view Thirdly, Respect your employees Respect your employees and their opinions Never make your employees feel neglected Please don’t be harsh on their face when you disagree with them Respect their inputs and try to explain your point of view with a little more empathy Follow professional speaker Leslie Charles' golden rule: “Treat employees the way they want” Finally, One to one interactions Go a little extra mile to talk to your employees and have a one-to-one interaction with them when needed This would create a sense of support for your employees Ask your employees if they are happy with the work assigned to them If they find enough support from their team members? Are they keen on learning other processes? Or any suggestions they have on the current way of work Questions like these would give your employees a sense of morale boost and help build positive relationships My experience: Although I haven’t had the opportunity to be a boss in a company, I have had the opportunity to be the head of the event organizer of a club in the faculty When taking on such an important position, I always have to improve myself a lot to become a good leader I always organize teambuilding sessions, talk show for the members to play and understand each other better I am always the one who actively listens and helps the members whenever they have difficulties in the events that the team organizes As a result, the events we organize always go on schedule, achieve good results and receive many compliments from everyone In addition, after talk show, I have more brothers, friends, and sisters who help a lot not only in work but also in life Whenever I have difficulty, stuck, they always give me valuable advice Through the above example, I want to say that building a relationship between leader and member is very important What should the HR worker do? To build a good relationship between members of the company, the role of the human resources department is extremely important In particular, human resources workers need to have the following skills: Firstly, human resource workers must have good discipline and organization ability Organizational skills include skills such as time management skills, ability to evaluate, ability to complete work, A good HR person needs to establish a system of standards for all members to perform Each employee in the company has a unique value and therefore, every employee needs conditions for comprehensive development Human resources workers need to ensure the interests of employees together with the interests of the collective and the organization, so that the company can become a united collective In addition, human resource workers often come with individual interests in the collective Therefore, HR workers must be fair Not only in the company but any organization also needs to ensure this principle For example, in a group, the team leader is considered as a HR person, the contribution of each individual is different Mr A can five parts of the job that cannot be compared with Mr B who can eight parts of the work Furthermore, human resources workers need to ensure harmony between the employee and the employer They need to know how to listen, negotiate and resolve conflicts between employees, between employees and leaders to find the most effective solution Human resources workers also need to have reciprocal interactions to help employees work with leaders as effectively as possible The important thing here is that a good HR person needs to know the characteristics such as personality, position, capacity, of each member to be able to reconcile and direct employees to work effectively MY EXPERIENCE: Through personal experiences, I realize the important role of this activity through events As a member of the human resources department, directly participate in the organizational of the "A" contest I had the opportunity to join to engage the members With the work that I experienced from contacting teachers and students to answering questions and controlling activities in the competition, I found the effectiveness of this activity After all the work and study, this competition has created a fun and comfortable atmosphere for everyone The important thing is that soon, the members know and understand each other better The gap between lecturers and students and between students is gradually narrowed and eliminated Learning from this, companies and HR workers can organize outdoor team building on summer vacations with company trips, or on holidays, anniversaries, quarterly summaries, The best point of the team-building organization is that based on games and comfortable psychology when having fun, people can reduce stress in daily work and connect with each other more What should employees do? Next is for employees, what should they to build a good relationship in the workplace? From my point of view, the top priority to improve a good relationship in the working environment is focusing on the relationship between staff and their boss Employees need to have a flexible way of working to match their boss's leadership style because each boss has their own leadership and personality For example: + If your boss has a democratic leadership style (Phong cách lãnh đạo dân chủ), it means a type of leadership style in which members of the group take part in the decisionmaking process, but the main decision still belongs to the leader, the employees need to actively contribute opinions and understand their tasks + If your boss has an autocratic leadership style (Phong cách lãnh đạo độc đoán), it means a leadership style characterized by individual control over all decisions and little input from group members, the employees need to raise their responsibility at work to the highest level, focus on doing their job and follow all decisions of their boss The second is building positive relationships with coworkers Each employee should have a sociable personality and be willing to help new colleagues because when we get along well with our colleagues, we will get a comfortable working spirit, so we should try our best to support each other to complete the work more effectively Besides, we should avoid gossiping about other colleagues in the company to prevent conflicts in the workplace Gossiping at work can result in lost connection in a company that leads to working efficiency reduction or even disciplinary action Example: Here I will give you guys an example of the working style of a country that I have found out and been very impressed with, that is, Japanese principles and manners in the workplace The Japanese employees are very respectful of each other, willing to help new employees complete the job well Moreover, the Japanese staff have a high working spirit, all team members work cooperatively, discuss ideas with each other to bring the best product quality for customers Eventually, the Japanese are always calm, listen to other colleagues, absorb ideas, correct their mistakes and never impose on their colleagues Due to this behavior culture of Japanese in the workplace, Japanese companies always bring the world's top quality products That has turned Japan from a poor country to an economic powerhouse My experience: And the last I also want to tell you guys about my short experience In my freshman year, I had a part-time job as a customer consultant in a studio At that time, my boss assigned me to consult a product for a fastidious customer Although I was a newbie and did not have much work experience back then, I still accepted this job I had difficulties in the process, so I asked my boss for help and then finally, after much effort I completed the job Thereby, I was trusted by my boss and the relationship between me and my boss was also better Now I have quit that job, but every time I have difficulties, my ex-boss gives me a lot of valuable advice Through my short story, I want you to know that building relationships at work as well as in life is extremely important III CONCLUSION Each individual plays a different significant role in the company Building good relationships helps to promote tremendously the strengths of each individual, thereby helping the business become a sustainable enterprise
