using information gap activities on developing speaking skills for grade 10 students at high school To achieve this aim, an experimental design was conducted 40 participants in this thesis were equally divided into two groups, 20 for experimental group and 20 for the control one During the process of teaching eight speaking topic for grade 10 students, the researcher designed activities basing on information gap concept which was used in teaching the experimental group, while the ordinary method was used in teaching the control one Four oral speaking test: one pre test, two progress tests and one post - test were designed and validated to test the two groups of students The data were collected by scoring the students’ performance in oral speaking tests using speaking rubric The effectiveness of using information gap activities on developing speaking skills was measured and analyzed statistically by comparing the means and standard deviation of the two group through tests: the comparison between average total score in pre - test average total score in progress test for both groups, the comparison between average score of the progress test and the average score of the progress test and the comparison between the average score of the pre - test and the average of the post test The result of the research showed that the implementation of information gap activities had a positive affect on improving students’ speaking skills The students were more confident and comfortable to speak in English They could express their ideas more fluently, their vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar also increased In addition to this, the students actively participated in the teaching and learning process They were enthusiastic in taking part in all the activities in the class and their motivation also improved The result of the comparisons also revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control one Besides, the analysis of the participants’ patterns of progress demonstrates that the participants of the experimental group made gradual increases during the treatment ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I gratefully acknowledge the encouragement and support of many
