From the reality, our preoccupation is how to improve speaking skill for our students, or how to create a real inspiration to help students actively participate in the speaking activity with the least pressure and being the most comfortable The current purpose is for students to show their speaking ability a free environment with opinion " playing is to study, studying is to play" Hence, English club has its advantages to gain achievements in raising effectiveness of communication skill such as students are not stressed by marks, abide by the rules from the classroom, and are not tied with boring topic from the course text Additionally, students can take part in funny and challenging quiz English competition without paying attention to the attitudes or jugdment of the teacher Although organizing English club has its disadvantages, the advantages surpass A speaking lesson in classroom is not enough time for all students to practice, average or even fairly good students are difficult to acquire knowledge and complete their speaking tasks to gain the goals From all above reason, because of being an English teacher, We always concern our students having a positive and authentic environment to practice English So, in order to improve the quality of speaking English for students at all levels, especially students at Quynh Luu high school, the writers decided to choose topic “Organizing English speaking Club to develop the communication skill for the grade 10 students at Quynh Luu high school” as our teaching experience The novelty of the topic This is a completely new topic, no colleagues have mentioned it yet The topic proves the necessity and feasibility of using activities in the English club in general to improve the communication ability for 10th grade students Besides, the topic also offers the forms and measures to effectively use activities, contribute to innovating teaching methods, thereby improving the quality of teaching English in high schools If applying the appropriate use of activities in the English club, it will contribute to improving the effectiveness of innovation in teaching methods, thereby improving the quality of teaching as well as communication skills in schools - Be suitable with the current teaching trend as well as the increasingly global trend of foreign language learning - Not be published in previous books, technical documents, documents - Not be yet defined into standards, processes, and regulations - Unprecedented approach in previous experiences or other's articles - Use methods and directions to solve new research problems that have never been found in any document before - Apply new approach ensures the applicability and replication of the research problem - Provide new evidence or facts about results, more effectively when comparing new and old ways of doing things - Be presented by new presentation structure, creative in arranging content for convenience in the viewing process of viewers - Combine the presentation with a new form or element, such as using diagrams, mind maps, video, or geometric blocks to represent the content Research purposes The purpose of this study is to organize the effectiveness of English club activities on improving and developing the Quynh Luu tenth graders' English communication skills The study aims at answering the following questions: Are there any differences in students' achievement scores in speaking ability between the experimental and the control groups? To what extent does organizing English club activities develop students' overall performance in communication skill in the experimental group? To what extent students, under the influence of organizing English club activities, improve communication skill within speech? To what extent does organizing English club activities improve students’ performance in using English in communication? To what extent does organizing English club activities help improve students' performance in using fluently grammatical and vocabular accuracy? Object and scope of the study The study was going to be conducted at Quynh Luu high school for all members at 10th grade in English speaking club They are in fairly good and advanced students from all 10 grade and we would apply this method in organizing English club activities to develop their communication skill and the possible solutions; school year 2022 - 2023 Research mission This study aims at organizing various effective activities at English club to develop communication skills Research Methods The study used the experimental approach to analyze the data, and verify the results of organizing English club activities in enhancing students' speaking abilities PART II CONTENT 1.Theoretical background 1.1 What is communication? According to oxford dictionary “communication is the activity or process of expressing ideas and feelings or of giving people information” Communication is a simple action that transfer information from this place, person or team to another Each of communicative action involves (at least) one talker, a note and a detail form Although this is regarded as simple things, communicative interaction is truly a very intricated subject The message is sent from talker to receiver can be strongly influenced by a large range of things These not exclude our emotions, cultural situations, daily communication tools and the geographical location where we are Communication is very complicated, hence employers all over the world highly appreciate this skill: communicating fluently, accurately, with correct intonation, creating emphasis with the opposite person and clearly attracting their attention is really hard There are a wide range of ways in which we communicate and more than one may be occurring at any given time Communication comprise: Spoken and verbal communication: which includes face-to-face, telephone, radio or television and other media Non verbal communication: covering body language, gestures, how we dress or act, where we stand, and even our scent There are many subtle ways that we communicate (perhaps even unintentionally) with others For example, the tone of voice can give clues to mood or emotional state, whilst hand signals or gestures can add to a spoken message Written communication: which includes letters, e-mails, social media, books, magazines, the Internet and other media Until recent times, a relatively small number of writers and publishers were very powerful when it came to communicating the written word Today, we can all write and publish our ideas online, which has led to an explosion of information and communication possibilities Visualizations: graphs and charts, maps, logos and other visualizations can all communicate messages 1.2 The concept of communication skills Communication skills are the abilities you use when giving and receiving different kinds of information Some examples include communicating new ideas, feelings or even an update on your project Communication skills involve listening, speaking, observing and empathizing It is also helpful to understand the differences in how to communicate through face-to-face interactions, phone conversations and digital communications like email and social media There are different types of communication skills you can learn and practice to help you become an effective communicator Many of these skills work together making it important to practice communication skills in different contexts whenever possible Different styles of communication are appropriate in different situations To make the best use of your communication skills, it’s important to consider your audience and the most effective format to communicate with them 1.3 Communicative activities Communicative activities include any activities that encourage and require a learner to speak with and listen to other learners, as well as with people in the program and community Communicative activities have real purposes: to find information, break down barriers, talk about self, and learn about the culture Even when a lesson is focused on developing reading or writing skills, communicative activities should be integrated into the lesson Furthermore, research on second language acquisition (SLA) suggests that more learning takes place when students are engaged in relevant tasks within a dynamic learning environment rather than in traditional teacher-led classes (Moss & Ross-Feldman, 2003) Benefits of Communicative Activities Some immigrants, such as parents, elders, or people who work in isolated environments (like housekeepers and babysitters) may feel lonely and experience depression or have low self-esteem They may begin to feel that they will never learn English or never feel comfortable in the United States Offering welldesigned and well-executed communicative activities can help turn the English classroom into an active, safe, and enjoyable place where literacy- and beginninglevel learners can learn what they need and want to learn Challenges Most English language learners have had access to some schooling in their native countries Their school was probably very teacher-directed Learners were expected to be quiet and listen to the teacher and then, when asked, to respond to the teacher in unison with the one correct answer Because of this, some adult English language learners may be initially disconcerted when their English teacher begins asking them to get up and move around, work in pairs or groups, and talk to one another It also may be difficult for learners to realize that there can be more than one correct response to a question and many ways to ask a question However, many, if not most, learners adapt and prosper with increased interactivity and independence Sample Activities The following activities provide opportunities for interaction and communication: Activity 1: Class Survey Activity 2: Conversation Grid Activity 3: Line Dialogue Activity 4: Information Gap Activity 5: Language Experience Approach Activity 6: Games 1.4 The role and meaning of English club in improving communication among students English club is a place where students can use foreign language in a normal way and apply to it in daily life activities Practicing communication skills in the club plays an important role to assist students to be more confident in communicating in real life In English club, the members communicate and connect with each others through a defined purpose, often focusing on a skill and an apparent topic that brings an exciting and interesting environment to students and maximum development of communication language for learners The club is a friendly and supportive place for students who are shy or have limited use of the English language in communication have opportunities to show off their abilities The English club is a good environment that provides a golden chance for students to practice and improve their spoken language skills English language clubs in groups give students the opportunity to practice English in an informal, relaxed environment and meet new people in a cheerful spirit without the high pressure of grades or the scrutiny of those around The English Club is conducted by English teachers, whose expertise as well as language knowledge can improve learners in properly navigate their communication skills and encourage students to participate in activities with relaxed, confident and full of energy This is also an environment for training and educating union members and young people in social communication skills, a sense of responsibility for foreign language development, and self-confidence training for young people Through the club's activities, it has made a great contribution to inspiring education, ideas, ideals and life skills in the integration period with the ability to speak English fluently for students Practical background Current situation in speaking English among students at high schools Quynh Luu High School is a school located in the western of the district with material difficulties and students are mainly farmers' children Despite many limitations and difficulties, my school's English teachers have always improved their knowledge to approach and innovate old teaching methods to improve teaching quality to keep up with the innovation trend of the general education program in 2018 However, regarded as a difficult subject, the quality of learning and the fact using English of the majority of students in the many local high schools as well as the high school Quynh Luu have many limitations, teachers have applied many innovative methods of teaching English as well as communication skills for students, the results have not been high Besides, students are mainly children of pure farmers, so the conditions for them to access to science and modern equipment for foreign language learning are limited Understanding this situation, at the beginning of the school year 2022-2023, we conducted a survey on 400 students of grade 10 to get information to verify the reality of the problem to have an effective direction to help them develop their own language and communication skills According to the survey, the percentage of students achieving average or outstanding English scores in the entrance exams at Quynh Luu High School only accounts for about 30% of the 10th grade enrollment In particular, the ability of their communication by English is weak, even many of them cannot speak a complete sentence Quynh Luu High School’s students are mainly children in mountainous area, they are still timid, not active, afraid of mistakes, passive in practice This is due to many different reasons, partly because the number of students in each class is more than 40 students and the speaking time is only 45 minutes, which means that the time is not enough for students to have the opportunity to practice a lot Others, in the classroom, students are still dependent on textbooks where the content is not always close and enjoyable for them, so the results of these lessons are often not as good as expected Many students cannot write and speak English fluently, or not know how to use any word in the right context as well as in real situations, even good students are shy and lack of confidence Moreover, even if students have talents, if they not have the time and active communication environment, it is difficult to arouse students' interest in communication As a certain result, without having a positive, interesting, close-to-student topics, and a real environment, it is impossible to motivate students to use English in the right way From the above detail numbers and reasons, it becomes more urgent to use the club form to practice communication skills and develop English ability for students After the announcement of club membership registration, there were 156 applications from 10th grade students To assess students' knowledge before joining the English club, we conducted a survey and monitor students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills Along with information through survey questionnaires and information obtained through several small talks, observations were added to these main sections to support the results And the result is as follows: Table 1: Results of the English language quality survey of club students at the beginning of the school year 2022 - 2023 (156 members) Speaking Listening Writing Reading Number % Number % Number % Number % Excellent 16 10.3 19 12.2 listening, speaking, reading and writing in English especially communication skills At the same time, they know how to work in groups and promote their language ability After a year of providing solutions, at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, I conducted the survey again and obtained the following results: Table 2: Results of the English language quality survey of club students at the end of the school year 2022 - 2023 (156 members) Speaking Listening Writing Reading Number % Number % Number % Number % Excellent 23 14.7 26 16.7 29 18.6 35 22.4 Good 36 23.1 41 26.3 38 24.4 37 23.7 positive results as follows: 40 * About student assessment To see the effectiveness and feasibility of the research topic, I have organized two surveys as follows: - The first survey was conducted in two time periods: At the beginning of the school year when we had not yet conducted the activities of the English club The time is at the end of term II, when we have conducted some activities of the English club - In the first and second survey, we selected 156 members who registered to join the English club from 10th grade, with 100% of the total students in the club to conduct the survey With the same questions as follows: Question 1: Is it urgent to participate in activities in the English club to improve communication for students? + Very necessary + Necessary + Less necessary + Not necessary Question 2: Do you think it is possible to organize English club activities to improve communication skills for students? + Very feasible + Feasible + Less feasible + Not feasible After doing this, I got the following results: * Survey results at the beginning of the school year: Tota l Question Very Necessary necessary Question Less Not Very necessary necessary feasible Feasible Less Not feasible feasib le 38 34 % 10,5 89,5 10,5 17 10 26,3 63,2 41 * Survey results at the end of term II: Tota l Question Very Necessary Less necessary Question Not necessary necessary 38 Very Feasible Less feasible feasible 25 10 Not feasible 22 % 10.5 65.8 23.7 26.3 57.9 15.8 From the above survey results, we can see that after conducting English club activities, students have low evaluation and lack of trust in English club activities to improve communication skills continued to be significantly improved The children were more interested, and had the right view, more sympathy and especially they saw the importance of the English club in helping them improve their second language ability Thus, the reality clearly shows the effectiveness of the method of using the English club form to promote the improvement of students' communication skills, so that students can be more interested in learning, bring a worthy position for the subject of English * For Students Through the activities of the English club, students can not only communicate and interact in English in a real environment, but also develop their ability to work in groups, think creatively, and demonstrate their skills own appeal Students will live responsibly with the community, appreciate and promote their abilities, develop their capacities and qualities, and be aware of and apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems Thereby, they try their best to study and practice to become useful people to contribute to the construction of their homeland and country It is thanks to the passion for English subject, the ideal of bringing Vietnam to the world, forged by students right from the time they sit in school, many students have a sense of strive to practice morality, competence, good qualities, and have the thought of studying abroad in the future * About the spirit and attitude of students towards English subject Students from apathy, fear, and disinterest in English in general and club activities in particular have had a more serious attitude and self-discipline to study, many of them have turned interested and drunk Because of their passion for English, many of them have already communicated with their friends in this second language 42 PART III CONCLUSION Conclusions The process of researching the topic is carried out according to an objective and scientific process that is applied to English club with different levels of students When implementing a topic related to improving students' communication ability through English club activities, we research, inquiry, and assume that this is the concern of many researchers as well as English teachers all over the country Therefore, I chose the topic of organizing an English club to improve communication skills for 10th graders as a research topic with the desire to contribute a little bit of energy in the "war" to improve subject English position in general and English club activities in particular The research is drawn from my own practice and teaching experience, initially implemented at Quynh Luu High School with positive results The renewal of English teaching methods in general and the strengthening of activities in English club activities in particular, especially the use of activities to improve communication skills, have significantly increased the effectiveness for students' English speaking ability As a result, students feel excited about club activities, which will change their views on the subject, increase their enthusiasm and curiosity, leading to more and more interested in the English subject Through activities organized in the club, students will be motivated to be confident and be comfortable when participating in class lessons, have confidence with their communication ability, enhance observation, and collective work; at the same time, contributing to fostering students' initiative, positivity, cooperation, promoting and regularly using English in daily communication This topic has greatly influence on us, helping us to have a better applying method in improving students’ communication ability Besides, this initiative also helps colleagues when applying new and highly feasible methods organizing English club activities Learned Lessons *For teachers: When organizing the club, it is necessary to follow the teaching plan at the beginning of the year of the group, group, and school, based on the actual teaching situation and the English communication ability of each student to choose the form teach appropriately Actively collect materials to build activities, innovate organizational forms to create interest in learning among students *For professional groups: It is necessary to closely follow the guiding documents of the Ministry of Education, Department of Education, schools, discuss, discuss and develop educational plans from the beginning of the school year Based on the actual situation of schools and classes to choose the appropriate form of activity When conducting extracurricular activities, or experiential activities, it is necessary 43 to have a meeting, make a specific plan, divide tasks for each group member, coordinate smoothly to ensure the safety of students, and achieve success highest efficiency *For schools and related organizations: It is necessary to strengthen coordination and facilitate support in terms of organization, funding, and human resources to manage students to encourage teachers to enhance the effectiveness of this activity Suggestions For the scope of the study, the author has only carried out the investigation in applying some activities in English club to teach improve communication skills at 10 grade students From the real situation of the language using, research supports some cues for further study: This study is very small part related to a stage in teaching language skill with 156 students at Quynh Luu high school Another study should focus on other activities to 11 or 12 grade students at high school The study basically depends on one source of data, questionnaires, which may be subjective on the side of the respondents; thus the author cannot guarantee the reliability of the information collected As a matter of the fact, any implement outside the classroom context requires carefully thoughts and consideration The study only applied for post-reading activities, and it has not solved completely the limitation such as lack of knowledge and vocabularies or insufficiency grammatical structures yet This need more time to improve Additionally, this is focus on a small field; others should use some interactive postreading activities to apply for other language skill such as speaking, listening and writing Hopefully, the above problems could be solved in other studies after this research in the near future Summary of the conclusion This research is carried out as a contribution to the knowledge of all teachers and students of English in their teaching and learning To have achievement like that, the research conducted many steps in previous chapter However, it is effective or not, it depends very much on real situation The author of this research does hope that this study would be of some value to both teachers and students in their language teaching and learning process REFERENCES Bygate (2006) - Current Trends in
