In any large city, people are concerned about beggars. They certainly look disadvantaged and on cold nights our hearts go out to anyone sleeping rough. But are they really so hard up? Are they playing on our sympathy? Does all the money we give them go on drugs? Should we be giving our change to beggars?

PROS AND CONS It is foolish to give money to beggars In any large city, people are concerned about beggars They certainly look disadvantaged and on cold nights our hearts go out to anyone sleeping rough But are they really so hard up? Are they playing on our sympathy? Does all the money we give them go on drugs? Should we be giving our change to beggars? This is still a controversial issue and people have different views regarding to this topic But from my point of view, I firmly believe that “It is foolish to give money to beggars” AC1: For First of all, the beggars are doing the beggary because they are lazy to work The main causes for them are that they're poor and being unable to hold a regular job due to all sorts of problems like mental, emotional, physical, educational, and so on Easy money is an extreme attraction for the lazy one sitting around all day collecting spare money off of passersby With such an easy come they don't eager to work at all By giving money to these sorts of people, far from helping them not only you are encouraging them to be lazy but also you are encouraging others to the same Your kind offer will lead them to more serious laziness than ever According to an article by New York Times in 2020, 35% of beggars in this city were in the working age and they could easily get a job for themselves NC1: Against You mentioned that those beggars who are doing the beggary as they are lazy to work I can see what you mean But actually, in our country, getting a job is very difficult for beggars, especially homeless people Lư Hoàng Long (Mr) English Tutor – Tarot Reader As you can see, nowadays, there are some barriers to get a job without having a home or an address Most employers and companies require addresses, and beggars can't get a place to live until they get a job, but can't get a job until they get a place to live This is a lose-lose situation In addition, some people are also uneducated because they don't even have enough money to buy their own food for one day And guess what, some employers will not consider uneducated applicants Morever, beggars, not only beg, they try to work too, even if it is only small time jobs But no matter how hard they work, the payment that is given to them is still not enough to support their families Therefore, in my opinion, we should give them money to help them with their difficulties in life According to a survey by Tuoi tre nay, in 2021, 85% employers would never consider a homeless person or an uneducated applicants for a job opening AC2: For I can see what you mean and I think that’s a good point of view But I still believe that we shouldn’t give them money because we not know if they are really beggars, and also, some of them are drug addicted who will spend the money on drugs or alcohol You know, there is no proof that those who are lying on the streets are actually beggars They could go home, into the warmth, with their loving family but they don't it These people make money readily by cheating on other kind people Morever, there is a fact that we can’t even know how the beggars use the money they received We give them money for the purpose that they can buy food and clothes However, some of them don't buy necessities but they use it on alcohol, tobacco and drugs Thus, we are encouraging them to continue their bad habits using too much drugs and alcohol This causes bad effects on them and that’s why we shouldn’t give them money Lư Hoàng Long (Mr) English Tutor – Tarot Reader According to a report by Dr David from Daily News, September 2021, 42% of alcohol addicted in New Your City are beggars and homeless people NC2: Against You mentioned that some beggars can spend money on drugs or alcohol and become addicted I can see what you mean, but from my point of view, if we can help beggars with money to buy food and necessities, crime activities will diminish Beggars are begging for money because they not have an enough amount of money to purchase meals and houses However, if they stop receiving money from others in streets, they will seek another way of earning money Unfortunately, most employers are unlikely to hire these individuals because of their education, and previous life experience Therefore, they are liable to commit crimes such as shoplifting, even robbing, or bullying in order to buy snacks and avoid dying from starvation As a result, citizens will be subject to crimes, in turn, fear caused by these problems To sum up, giving money to beggars is the simple way of reducing an extent of crime in our civilizations According to a report on India News in Feb 2022, Dr Thomas showed that the number of crimes in New Dehli had a decrease of 12% since the Government applied policies to help beggars and homeless people with food and money AC1: Rebuttal In summation, giving money to beggars will never teach them to be selfsufficient It will encourage them to stay on the streets and beg all their life Begging has become a pity market Giving money to someone who has no contribution towards the society is stupid Lư Hoàng Long (Mr) English Tutor – Tarot Reader Lư Hoàng Long (Mr) English Tutor – Tarot Reader Mobile: 0903620292 Instagram: longtonyy Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam Lư Hoàng Long (Mr) English Tutor – Tarot Reader
