and updated continuousl y, m ainl y by adding new graphical sym bols in order to m eet the requirements of technical comm ittees and subcomm ittees within the I EC as well as I SO/I EC JTC together with industries This Technical Report thus includes classical graphical symbols targeted to specific application areas as well as basic graphical symbols for general application In the era of information com munication technolog y (I CT), new graphical sym bols for use on such equipm ent as m ultimedia equipm ent have been in strong demand for standardization These graphical sym bols are not onl y printed, engraved, em bossed, or moulded on the equipm ent, but also used on screens and displays I n the latter case, the appearance of a graphical symbol is d ynam icall y changed to indicate a state of the equipment This Technical Report intends to highlight current tendency and practice of using graphical symbols for use on equipm ent –6– I EC TR 62964: 201 © I EC 201 G R AP H I serve as a pool of standardized grap h ica l symb o ls for use on e quip m e n t to be used, in accordance with the provisions given in I EC 8041 6-3: 2002 and I EC 8041 6-3: 2002/AMD1 :201 , 4, in I EC publications following the rules given in I SO/I EC Directives, Part 2: 201 , 6 The actual applications and use of such gra p h ica l sym bols include som e m odifications to fit specific purposes, which are allowed in accordance with the provisions given in IEC 8041 6-3: 2002 and I EC 8041 6-3:2002/AMD1 : 201 , Clause To accommodate an y difficulties to follow the rules, a set of procedures which consitute a com prom ise are given in I EC 62648, in agreem ent with I EC Guide 08 I n addition, as a result of quickly changing demand in industries such as digital cameras, multimedia, I CT and mobile equipm ent, there are new grap h ical sym b ols not yet standardized in I EC 6041 This Technical Report classifies some of these ima ges into two categories: a) b) Gra ph ica l sym bols Gra
