Interpretation: Table gives an overview of types of receivers No specific distinction is made between analog or digital receiving technology Also, digital receiving technology is included in the general definition of sound receivers and television receivers Therefore, the types of receivers listed in the applicability tables may include digital receiving technology unless it is clearly excluded in the term used For example, the term “FM radio antenna” defines an analog sound receiver and the term “TV antenna” refers also to a digital TV-receiver Following the interpretation above the requirements for digital only TV receivers are given under “TV antenna” receivers and for digital only sound receivers under “Digital radio antenna” receivers The latter gives only requirements for screening effectiveness and ESD which is clearly not the intention of the standard It was assumed that a digital sound receiver would always incorporate an analog FM tuner `,,```,,,,````-`-`,,`,,`,`,,` - Copyright British Standards Institution Provided by IHS under license with BSI - Uncontrolled Copy No reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS Not for Resale BS EN 55020:2007+A11:2011 EN 55020:2007+A11:2011 (E) nn Digital only sound receivers (e.g DAB only receivers) should therefore comply with the requirements of “FM radio antenna” receivers listed in the “Applicability” column of all relevant tables NOTE Test method in Table “RF voltage Differential mode” for digital sound receivers is not yet specified in the standard Therefore this test is not required for digital sound receivers Validity: This interpretation remains valid until an amendment or updated standard dealing with this issue is published by CENELEC _ June 2009 EN 55020/IS2 Interpretation Sheet EN 55020:2007 English version _ Foreword This Interpretation Sheet to the European Standard EN 55020:2007 was prepared by the Technical Committee CENELEC TC 210, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) The text of the draft was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure and was approved by CENELEC on 2010-07-09 In EN 55020:2007, Annex I, I.7, it is stated: I.7 Other immunity measurements I.7.1 Digital only receivers In case of digital-only receivers the relevant immunity measurements of this standard shall be performed I.7.2 Receivers for digital and analogue signals For the analogue mode all the relevant immunity measurements of this standard shall be performed In the digital mode, only measurements on electrostatic discharge (ESD, see 4.7) and electrical fast transient (EFT, see 4.5) need to be performed With regard to the above, it is understood that the receiver is the whole EUT (as defined in 3.1.2), therefore the following question arises: In the case of a receiver with separate RF input ports for Analogue/Digital Terrestrial and Digital Satellite reception, is it appropriate to test the digital satellite mode only for EFT and ESD? Interpretation: Where different ports are provided as described above, the full set of immunity tests should be carried out in digital satellite mode, because a different port is being assessed Validity: This interpretation remains valid until an amendment or updated standard dealing with this issue is published by CENELEC _ Copyright British Standards Institution Provided by IHS under license with BSI - Uncontrolled Copy No reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS August 2010 Not for Resale `,,```,,,,````-`-`,,`,,`,`,,` - Question: `,,```,,,,````-`-`,,`,,`,`,,` - This page deliberately set blank Copyright British Standards Institution Provided by IHS under license with BSI - Uncontrolled Copy No reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS Not for Resale BS EN 55020:2007 +A11:2011 BSI - British Standards Institution BSI is the independent national body responsible for preparing British Standards It presents the UK view on standards in Europe and at the international level It is incorporated by Royal Charter Revisions British Standards are updated by amendment or revision Users of British Standards should make sure that they possess the latest amendments or editions It is the constant aim of BSI to improve the quality of our products and services We would be grateful if anyone finding an inaccuracy or ambiguity while using this British Standard would inform the Secretary of the technical committee responsible, the identity of which can be found on the inside front cover Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 9000 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7400 BSI offers members an individual updating service called PLUS which ensures that subscribers automatically receive the latest editions of standards Buying standards In response to orders for international standards, it is BSI policy to supply the BSI implementation of those that have been published as British Standards, unless otherwise requested Information on standards BSI provides a wide range of information on national, European and international standards through its Library and its Technical Help to Exporters Service Various BSI electronic information services are also available which give details on all its products and services Contact Information Centre Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7111 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7048 Email: info@bsigroup.com Subscribing members of BSI are kept up to date with standards developments and receive substantial discounts on the purchase price of standards For details of these and other benefits contact Membership Administration Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7002 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7001 Email: membership@bsigroup.com Information regarding online access to British Standards via British Standards Online can be found at http://www.bsigroup.com/BSOL Further information about BSI is available on the BSI website at http:// www.bsigroup.com Copyright BSI Group Headquarters 389 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 4AL, UK Tel +44 (0)20 8996 9001 Fax +44 (0)20 8996 7001 www.bsigroup.com/ standards Copyright British Standards Institution Provided by IHS under license with BSI - Uncontrolled Copy No reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS Copyright subsists in all BSI publications BSI also holds the copyright, in the UK, of the publications of the international standardization bodies Except as permitted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 no extract may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means – electronic, photocopying, recording or otherwise – without prior written permission from BSI This does not preclude the free use, in the course of implementing the standard, of necessary details such as symbols, and size, type or grade designations If these details are to be used for any other purpose than implementation then the prior written permission of BSI must be obtained Details and advice can be obtained from the Copyright and Licensing Manager Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7070 Email: copyright@bsigroup.com Not for Resale `,,```,,,,````-`-`,,`,,`,`,,` - Orders for all BSI, international and foreign standards publications should be addressed to Customer Services Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 9001 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7001 Email: orders@bsigroup.com You may also buy directly using a debit/credit card from the BSI Shop on the Website http://www.bsigroup.com/shop
