BRITISH STANDARD BS EN 50216-2:2002 Incorporating Amendment No Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI Power transformer and reactor fittings — Part 2: Gas and oil actuated relay for liquid immersed transformers and reactors with conservator The European Standard EN 50216-2:2002, with the incorporation of amendment A1:2002, has the status of a British Standard ICS 29.120.70; 29.180 12&23 0,5 –9– EN 50216-2:2002 Other values may be agreed between purchaser and supplier The minimum contact life shall be 000 operations The switch shall also be able to make a low current down to 10 mA for any value of voltage defined in Table even after one year of non-operation Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI 7.1 Mechanical requirements Terminal box A terminal box shall be provided with a minimum of four terminals and one earth terminal The terminals shall be designed to accept cables having a cross sectional area of between 1,5 mm² to mm² The thread shall be minimum M5 It shall be possible to fit two cable glands on the connection box The thread for the cable glands should be either Pg 16 or M20 x 1,5 (to be agreed between supplier and purchaser) A minimum of one cable gland and a threaded hole for mounting the second cable gland shall be provided unless otherwise agreed The marking in the terminal box shall comply with that on the connection diagram 7.2 Testing facility The relay shall be provided with a device to check the operation of alarm and trip contacts independently (without damaging the contacts or their operating mechanism) 7.3 Gas sampling The relay shall be fitted with a gas sampling petcock A facility shall be provided for the connection of a 3,17 mm (1/8’’) tube for sampling at ground level 7.4 Draining device A draining device shall be provided If required, a provision shall be allowed to permit draining at ground level 7.5 Presence of gas in the relay It shall be possible to visually check the presence of any gas in the relay from both sides If required, the sight glass shall be calibrated to indicate the volume of gas collected 7.6 Mounting arrangement An arrow on the relay shall indicate the oil flow direction from the transformer tank to the conservator 7.7 Pressure and vacuum The relay shall withstand all pressure and vacuum test stresses (see 9.1.1 and 9.2) EN 50216-2:2002 Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI – 10 – Nameplate The nameplate shall contain the following information: – name of supplier; – number of this standard and year of edition; – type of relay; – connection diagram (it may be incorporated on the nameplate or included in the terminal box); – state of contacts: normally open, normally closed or change over contacts; – seismic withstand class The type of relay shall allow identification of the relay characteristics from the mounting, operating and maintenance manual supplied by the supplier Tests In addition to the tests specified in EN 50216-1, the following tests shall be carried out 9.1 Routine tests 9.1.1 Oil leakage test The relay shall be subjected to an oil leakage test using one of the three following methods, at the choice of the supplier: a) application of a gas pressure of 2,5 × 10 Pa for at ambient temperature; b) application of a pressure of × 10 Pa for 30 to the relay filled with oil at 90 °C; c) application of a pressure of 1,4 × 10 Pa for h to the relay filled with oil at ambient temperature The relay shall not leak 9.1.2 Operation test - Correct operation of the relay shall be checked by means of the test device and by emptying the relay - The relay unit shall be emptied of oil and the volume to operate the alarm contact checked and the value recorded on the test report - The minimum steady oil flow for operation of the trip contact of the relay shall also be checked as specified in Table 9.2 Type tests 9.2.1 Calibration of gas collection scale on relay window to operate alarm contact if required – 11 – EN 50216-2:2002 Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI 9.2.2 Determination of the minimum oil flow to operate the contact and the time for closing in the following conditions: − oil temperature : 20 °C; − length of oil connection pipe on tank side : ten times the internal diameter; − length of oil connection pipe on conservator side : three times the internal diameter; − inclination of the axis of the relay : not exceeding ° (unless otherwise agreed between purchaser and supplier); − time allowed for reaching nominal oil flow : s 9.2.3 Vacuum withstand test at 2,5 kPa absolute pressure applied for 24 h 9.2.4 Pressure withstand test at 250 kPa for at 100 °C oil temperature 9.2.5 Verification of the absence of reaction of contacts − to a flow of oil from conservator to the tank (see 5.1), − to magnetic field lower than the specified value in 3.3 BS EN 50216-2:2002 BSI — British Standards Institution BSI is the independent national body responsible for preparing British Standards It presents the UK view on standards in Europe and at the international level It is incorporated by Royal Charter Revisions British Standards are updated by amendment or revision Users of British Standards should make sure that they possess the latest amendments or editions Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI It is the constant aim of BSI to improve the quality of our products and services We would be grateful if anyone finding an inaccuracy or ambiguity while using this British Standard would inform the Secretary of the technical committee responsible, the identity of which can be found on the inside front cover Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 9000 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7400 BSI offers members an individual updating service called PLUS which ensures that subscribers automatically receive the latest editions of standards Buying standards Orders for all BSI, international and foreign standards publications should be addressed to Customer Services Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 9001 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7001 Email: orders@bsi-global.com Standards are also available from the BSI website at http://www.bsi-global.com In response to orders for international standards, it is BSI policy to supply the BSI implementation of those that have been published as British Standards, unless otherwise requested Information on standards BSI provides a wide range of information on national, European and international standards through its Library and its Technical Help to Exporters Service Various BSI electronic information services are also available which give details on all its products and services Contact the Information Centre Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7111 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7048 Email: info@bsi-global.com Subscribing members of BSI are kept up to date with standards developments and receive substantial discounts on the purchase price of standards For details of these and other benefits contact Membership Administration Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7002 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7001 Email: membership@bsi-global.com Information regarding online access to British Standards via British Standards Online can be found at http://www.bsi-global.com/bsonline Further information about BSI is available on the BSI website at http://www.bsi-global.com Copyright Copyright subsists in all BSI publications BSI also holds the copyright, in the UK, of the publications of the international standardization bodies Except as permitted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 no extract may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means – electronic, photocopying, recording or otherwise – without prior written permission from BSI BSI 389 Chiswick High Road London W4 4AL This does not preclude the free use, in the course of implementing the standard, of necessary details such as symbols, and size, type or grade designations If these details are to be used for any other purpose than implementation then the prior written permission of BSI must be obtained Details and advice can be obtained from the Copyright & Licensing Manager Tel: +44 (0)20 8996 7070 Fax: +44 (0)20 8996 7553 Email: copyright@bsi-global.com
