" at constant flow Changing pattern does not change the flow 3.1 combination branchpipe – type combination branchpipe with adjustable pattern NOTE " at variable flow Changing pattern does not change the flow " at selectable, constant flow BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E) 3.1 combination branchpipe – type (automatic branchpipes) combination branchpipe with integrated pressure control device NOTE Changing pattern does not change the flow 3.1 4.1 combination branchpipe – type 4.1 combination branchpipe with ! adjustable pattern " at constant pressure 3.1 4.2 combination branchpipe – type 4.2 combination branchpipe with ! adjustable pattern " and selectable flow at constant pressure 3.2 jet 3.2.1 narrow spray jet intermediate position between the straight jet and the wide spray jet providing both throw as well as protection 3.2.2 wide spray jet jet solely providing protection for the operator(s) 3.3 haptical device single mechanical device engaging detents Requirements 4.1 General The branchpipes, covered by this standard shall comply with EN 51 82-1 4.2 Mechanical characteristics 4.2.1 Dimensions and mass The branchpipes (without inlet coupling) shall not exceed the dimensions and masses specified in Table Table — Dimensions and mass Maximum flow rate Dimensions Mass ≤ 500 450 × 300 × 50 3,5 > 500 600 × 350 × 200 5,5 l/min NOTE mm kg The maximum mass does not apply to seawater-resistant branchpipes 4.2.2 Operating and handling elements 4.2.2.1 The torques needed to move the operating elements shall not exceed the values given in Table at pressures up to the nominal pressure BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E) Table — Maximum torques Type of operating element Torque ⋅ Nm Lever 15 Valve handle 15 Rotating operating elements 10 Rotating inlet elements for fixed couplings 4.2.2.2 For branchpipes that are opened and closed with a valve handle, the "closed" position shall be located in the direction of the flow I f a different operating element is used, the "closed" position shall be clearly identified by visual and/or haptical means 4.2.2.3 It shall be possible to open any type of branchpipe in the wide spray position 4.2.3 Flow adjustment positions If a branchpipe has a device to select flow rate, then the flow rate's settings shall be easily identifiable by both visual and mechanical means (haptical device with corresponding numerical values) If using a rotating operating element for flow adjustment, the adjustment shall be achieved by a rotation movement of a maximum of 80° 4.2.4 Jet adjustment positions The various jet positions shall be clearly marked The narrow spray jet position (see 4.3.5) shall be easily identifiable by both visual and mechanical means (haptical devices) Jet adjustment from a straight jet to a wide spray jet with a spray angle of at least 00° shall be achieved by a rotation movement of between 70° and maximum 80° for branchpipes with a maximum flow rate less than or equal to 500 l/min and between 70° and 270° for a maximum flow rate higher than 500 l/min NOTE This requirement is included in this standard as a safety detail to provide the user with a means to produce a wide protective spray jet of at least 00° achieved within 80° rotation (one hand twist movement) It shall be possible to open the branchpipe in a spray angle of at least 30° 4.3 Hydraulic characteristics 4.3.1 Pressures The following pressures shall be used for the determination of the hydraulic characteristics:     reference pressure: p R = bar ! ± 0,1 bar"; median pressure for type branchpipes: p m ; nominal pressure: pN = bar; test pressure: pt = 25,5 bar; BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E)  burst pressure: pB = 60 bar 4.3.2 Flow rates All flow rates indicated on the branchpipe shall be measured at straight jet and at the maximum spray angle position Table shall apply to the deviation in flow rates which can be set at the reference pressure p R NOTE The deviation should also apply when the shape of the stream is altered Table — Deviation in the flow rate Flow rate Q Deviation limit to 250 - 0/+25 l/min Above 250 - +0/+ % (of set rate) l/min 4.3.3 Effective throw The combination branchpipes shall achieve, for each flow rate position above 50 l/min, an effective throw d eff as shown in Figure when set to a straight jet at the reference pressure BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E) Key X Flow rate Q in l/min Y Effective throw d eff in m Figure — Effective throw BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E) 4.3.4 Wide spray jet The wide spray jet shall have a spray angle of at least 00° 4.3.5 Narrow spray jet A narrow spray jet position between straight jet and wide spray jet positions shall be provided on the branchpipe The narrow spray jet shall have a spray angle of at least 30° 4.3.6 Type branchpipes For type branchpipes, the manufacturer shall give the regulation range (pressure at the beginning of the range and pressure at the end of the range), from which the median pressure is calculated With the valve fully open, the flow should be set at both the minimum and maximum flow and the pressure shall be read This pressure shall not deviate from the median pressure by more than 30 % This information shall be provided in graphic format as shown in EN 51 82-1 :2007, Annex C 4.4 Leak-tightness The closed branchpipe shall show no leakage during at the test pressure p t = 25,5 bar NOTE No leakage means no visible weeping or drop formation The opened branchpipe shall show no leakage during at the nominal pressure p N = bar 4.5 Hydrostatic requirements The branchpipes shall fulfil the tests defined in 5.5 Testing and proofs 5.1 General Unless otherwise specified, tests shall be carried out at the reference pressure p R, after the tests specified in part of this European Standard, in the following order 5.2 Jet spray angle 5.2.1 Spray angle measurement Arrange the branchpipe on a fixed support in a horizontal position ,5 m above the ground, in a zone where the wind speed is lower than m/s (see Figure 2) Arrange vertically a rule in the longitudinal axis of the extremity of the branchpipe at a distance of m This rule, of a height of m, shall have three coloured zones symmetrically arranged on both sides of the longitudinal axis The outside diameters of the zones are defined in the Table BS EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 EN 51 82-2:2007+A1 :2009 (E) Table — Outside diameter of the zones Colour of the zone Outside diameter m Angle Black ( b) 0,54 < 30° Grey ( c) 2,38 30° to 00° White Beyond > 00° Check that the zones of colour are covered according to the following requirements:   10 narrow spray jet position: grey zone shall be reached by the jet and the white zone shall not be reached by the jet;
