3745-100:2008 apply 3.1 tight structure cable cable where there is very limited movement of the fibre within the buffer and other elements of the cable construction; typically designed for use with non-pull proof fibre optic contacts 3.2 semi-loose structure cable cable where the fibre is designed to move within the buffer and other elements of the cable construction; typically designed for use characteristics 4.1 Description The characteristics of the cables, tested according to the methods described hereafter shall comply with the values defined in the product standard 4.2 Materials and construction of cables The configuration, dimensions and mass of the cable shall meet the values specified in the product standard as well as the requirements hereafter Materials and colour shall meet the product standard 4.3 Fibre construction The fibre shall consist of a single all silica core and a silica cladding protected by a primary coating in accordance with the product standards See Figure EN 3745-100 and product standard 6.3 Qualification group and maintenance of qualification The tests shall be carried out every 36 months after qualification on specimens taken at random 6.4 Quality control Inspections, which are intended to maintain the required quality level, are in their entirety the responsibility of the manufacturer, ranging from materials through delivery of the product The quality department of the manufacturer shall be able to demonstrate, at any given time, that the product complies with the manufacturing documentation and with the product standard concerned There shall be a monitoring system in place for the various inspection phases This shall be by documentary evidence kept available by the manufacturer for a period of five years and submitted to the national official services on request 7.1 Designation and marking General principle of designation Each fibre optic cable will be designated as in the following example Description block Identity and the two digits of the year of manufacture shall conform to ISO 2574 The marking may be done wholly or partially in code by agreement with the user The outer jacket of the cable shall accept will be defined in the product standard 8.1 Delivery conditions Packaging Cables supplied on drums, spools or in coils shall be wound evenly and uniformly All cable ends shall be easily accessible and protected where necessary Cables shall be wound with a radius not less than the minimum, long term bend radius of the cable 8.2 Labelling Each drum, spool or coil shall have a label indicating: manufacturer’s name and designation; cable designation according to the EN product standard; batch number; date of manufacture (month, year); inspector’s mark 8.3 Delivery lengths The minimum delivery length of a fibre or cable is defined in the product standard Storage Fibre optic cables shall be stored in accordance with the appropriate product standard 13 BS EN 4641-001:2009 BSI - British
