THU DAU MOT UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES 🙢🙢🙢 ACCUMULATIVE REPORT TITLE: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRITISH ENGLISH AND CANADIAN ENGLISH Course: English as a Global Language (3+0) Major: English Language Lecturer: Võ Thị Hải Yến Group 10: Phan Thị Phương Linh (2022202011145) Ngô Thị Anh Thư (2022202010390) Binh Duong, November, 2022 0 0 0 Now we next to our presentation with showing the difference between British English and Canadian English 0 First is Grammarly of both country Canadian and British 0 Now, I’m Anh Thu and I will continue our topic Start with some characters of Canadian English! 0 Firstly, you know that there are so many ways to talk like a native Canadian, so I think this method is very important when someone want to speak like Canadian This method I have known thanks to a brother in YouTube; he is also a study abroad from Vietnam to Canada When he goes to university interact and talk with lots of native speakers here, he noticed there’s one thing common among them in the way that they speak that them sound really good because they are native speakers right so basically this is a simple tip that he just picked up and he have applied into his way of speaking English so that he can speak more naturally and more you know natively If u can see that my voice now is kind of lower Now I speak at a lowered register compared to what I used to speak American English or British English even when we speak Vietnamese at a higher register But In Canadian (K nei di in) people have a tend to speak really lowly I mean not in terms of volume To simple understand instead of I saying “hello today I would like to talk about ” I will say “ Hellllo toooday! I would like too talk about (Lower)” so that I can speak much in a very lower tone not the voulume After that, you know natural people in Canadian will understand you say better and that is more like Canadian 0 Canadian Raising There’s sth called of Canadian raising that’s where Canadians change the sound of certain diphthongs OKAY! A diphthong is when we have two vowel sound next to each other and they almost make one sound Okay! Canadians can change two diphthongs “AI” and “Ow” Now we change these diphthongs BEFORE VOICELESS CONSONANTS Look at these words around and about Now Canadians and Britishs say this word exactly the same is Around but look at this word ( about) Canadians change it because the letter T is a voiceless consonant and this diphthong comes before the voices consonant so we change the sound of it a little bit Okay! A British or an American would say around /əˈraʊnd/ same sound Canadians But with about /əˈbaʊt/ it’s a little bit different can so this is what’s happening in Canadian raising now So that’s what Canadian raising is and that’s the most distinct difference I think between the American accent and the Canadian accent 0 0 0 0 0 ... our presentation with showing the difference between British English and Canadian English 0 First is Grammarly of both country Canadian and British 0 Now, I’m Anh Thu and I will continue our topic... this is what’s happening in Canadian raising now So that’s what Canadian raising is and that’s the most distinct difference I think between the American accent and the Canadian accent 0 0 0 0 0... natural people in Canadian will understand you say better and that is more like Canadian 0 Canadian Raising There’s sth called of Canadian raising that’s where Canadians change the sound of certain
