Foundry Building City of Cambridge Cambridge Redevelopment Authority 25 July 2018 – Community Presentation | Discussion ` CambridgeSeven Welcome City of Cambridge | Cambridge Redevelopment Authority Operations Foundry Consortium Design Ideas CambridgeSeven Discussion Mission The Foundry is an adaptive reuse project to build a self-sustaining center for creativity and collaboration for the Cambridge community At the intersection of the Kendall Square Innovation District and the East Cambridge neighborhood, the Foundry building will provide space and programs for the visual and performing arts, entrepreneurship, technology, and workforce education within its historic, industrial setting The Foundry will also help facilitate access for residents, especially underrepresented communities and adjacent neighborhoods, to the dynamic working and learning environment of Kendall Square THE FOUNDRY A SPACE FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE ARTS AND STEM, AND POSSIBILITIES FOR NEW MULTIDISCIPLINARY EFFORTS Lemelson-MIT Program and Lesley University on Behalf of the Foundry Consortium OUR VISION FOR THE FOUNDRY New opportunities for the arts, STEM, and multidisciplinary efforts New approaches to civic engagement and community building Accomplished through partnerships forged at the Foundry IMMEDIATE & ONGOING PRIORITIES • Outreach & Engagement: • • • • Community groups & nonprofits Members of the community Business community Learning by example from other centers and organizations • Design considerations shaped by community needs/wants: Flexible Performance Space Makerspace Art space Classrooms & Community space Office space • Validation of the fiscal model • Formation of the non-profit entity by early 2019 • Development of criteria for prioritizing use of the space and the curation of programming in accordance with the needs of Cambridge residents CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY Cambridge Community Needs Assessment, January 2017 Envision Cambridge Focus Area Draft Recommendations, June 2018 Where might the Foundry contribute solutions?
