cultural exchange between Finland and North America It awards grants for academic exchanges between Finland and the United States, advises on study and research opportunities in the United States and Canada The Fulbright Center is a non-profit organization funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education, the American and Canadian governments, and a Trust Fund founded by the Finnish and U.S governments The Fulbright Center is governed by an eight-member Board of Directors, with equal Finnish and American representation The Finnish members are appointed by the Finnish Ministry of Education and the U.S members by the American Embassy in Finland The U.S Ambassador to Finland serves as the Honorary Chairperson of the Board The Fulbright Center awards grants to close to 80 Finnish and American students, academics, and professionals annually In 2010-2011 a total of 24 Americans have received a Fulbright grant to lecture, conduct research, study, or teach in Finland In addition, the Center California PhD, MIT MS, MIT BS, National Taiwan University Dr C.-C Jay Kuo was Computational and Applied Mathematics Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles, from October 1987 to December 1988 Since January 1989, he has been with the University of Southern California (USC) He is presently Director of the Signal and Image Processing Institute (SIPI) and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the USC His research interests are in the areas of digital image/video analysis and modeling, multimedia data compression, communication and networking, and biological signal/image processing Dr Kuo has guided 104 students to their Ph.D degrees and supervised 21 postdoctoral research fellows Currently, his research group at the USC has around 30 Ph.D students, which is one of the largest academic research groups in multimedia technologies He is co-author of about 175 journal papers, 800 conference papers and 10 books He delivered over 450 invited lectures in conferences, research institutes, universities and companies Dr Kuo is Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (an Elsevier journal), and Editor for the LNCS Transactions on Data Hiding and Multimedia Security (a Springer journal), the Journal of Advances in Multimedia (a Hindawi journal) and the EURASIP Journal of Advances in Signal Processing (a Hindawi journal) He was on the Editorial Board of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine in 2003-2004 He served as Associate Editor for IEEE
