minutes from October 23, 2014 (pp 3-5) Patrick was a guest at the October 23 meeting (not listed in the attendance) M: S Clark S: C Gaugler Y: 21 N: A: Dee Near REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES and TASK FORCES Item 1: Curriculum Committee – Julie Clark AA-T in Studio Arts approved by Chancellor’s Office and ACCJC will not require substantive change for it Still waiting to hear from Chancellor’s Office regarding the AA-Ts for Sociology and Anthropology Elementary Teacher Education modification will be voted on at the next Curriculum meeting The Geography AA-T will be on the agenda in December Credit-byExam will be on the January Senate agenda Program Investigation for Corrections will begin on November 21 at 11 a.m and Real Estate will come in Spring 2015 Item 2: IPRSLOAC – Edward Modafferi Working with Curricunet on comprehensive reviews Edward demonstrated where to find the templates that are posted on the IPRSLOAC site Edward will email the link to all faculty following today’s meeting as requested by some senators All documents are being reviewed by IPRSLOAC to collect appropriate data Next meeting is in January If anyone has questions, contact your CATs or Edward There is a schedule of each cohort and the CAT assigned to the cohorts Item 3: FLEX / SDC – Tina Akers-Porter Spring FLEX workshops are being organized Workshop requests and those interested in teaching, please contact Tina right away Item 4: Student Success Committee – Steve Clark Student Success received an award from the Chancellor’s Office Sabrina Frias, intrusive counselor in Tutorial Center, is working with Chris Pedretti and Tony Lewis to make sure that all athletes have an educational plan Math and English online classes will have access to unlimited online tutorial support beginning Spring 2015 Spring Student Success Symposium to be help on March 27 Speed Dating in the Library on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 5-7:30 p.m., with several 20-minute presentations on topics such as “What is an Ed Plan?” and “What Does a Counselor Do?” Interested parties should contact Tomasia Drummond who is coordinating the presentations Item 5: Student of the Month – Karen Fritz Deadline for submission is Wednesday, November 19 SENATE PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Dee Sigismond FAAS Task Force had final meeting Cleaned up the survey and will send out in February or March Due to several holidays and vacations in spring, there will only be six (6) senate meetings in the spring Nancy is representing Merced College at Plenary Dee will send plenary state resolutions as she Election – Candidates: Megan Igo Y: 21 A: Edward Modafferi NEW BUSINESS Item 1: For 1st Reading: Resolution 17-14 Program Investigation of Addiction Studies (pp 16-31) The Social Sciences cohort recommends discontinuance of the Addiction Studies program Joel Murphy, professor and Addiction Studies Coordinator, reported on the reason for the program investigation Changes in legislature and restrictions, students are not being served Course substitutions will be utilized until Chancellor’s Office approval The goal is to strengthen and enhance the Human Services program with an AA-T as well as developing an AA-T in Sociology in Fall 2015 This resolution will be on the January Senate agenda for second reading and vote Item 2: For Information: Hiring Prioritization Committee Faculty Ranking (p 32) Dee thanked the committee and the presenters The first three on the list and number are currently one-year-temporary positions and must be filled permanently Unsure of exactly how many positions will be funded yet The President will inform soon Item 3: For Information: Faculty Veterans Slide Show Dee presented the slide show to the senators Dee and Patrick Mitchell will present the slide show at the board meeting next week Item 4: For Information: IE Metrics – Gabe Cuarenta-Gallegos Gabe demonstrated how to find the IE metrics for Program Review Gabe will send the PowerPoint to Dee to send out to all faculty Item 5: For Information: Student Learning Topic: “Tips for Students: How to Get Motivated to Study in College” http://blog.cengage.com/tips-for-students-how-to-get-motivated-to-study-in-college/ 10 PRESIDENT’S REPORT - Ron Taylor No report 11 STUDENT’S REPORT - Cody Camacho Cody was happy that there were no complaints with the sound during Blue Devil Days Due to the smaller number of Senate meetings in the spring, Cody gave an initial request for amplified sound for Diversity Days in March or April (exact dates unknown) and Students Social Justice Club is planning a Civil Rights march in January on MLK Jr Day Saturday, November 15, is the ASMC Thanksgiving meal for the homeless in the cafeteria ASMC is currently holding a clothing drive December 5, Project Christmas, toy drive for kids at the Child Development Center An ASMC student will dress as Santa and give out the presents Students have a petition in progress for ASLG-02 to be offered ASMC is purchasing two microwaves; one for the Merced cafeteria and Los Baños campus They will also purchase a coffee maker for Los Baños campus Cody
